Effects of intraperitoneal administration of Papaver rhoeas L. extract on mouse ovaries

        Afsaneh Golkar-Narenji,Hussein Eimani,Firooz Samadi,Saeid Hasani,Abdol hossein Shahverdi,Poopak Eftekhari-Yazi,Mohammad Kamalinejad 한국통합생물학회 2013 Animal cells and systems Vol.17 No.2

This research studies the effect of water-alcohol Papaver rhoeas L. (P. rhoeas) extract on mouse ovaries and in vitro development (IVD) of oocytes. Different dosages of P. rhoeas extract (25, 50, 100, 200 mg/kg body weight) were injected intraperitoneally (i.p.) during a period of 12 days. Following superovulation, the numbers of ovulated oocytes, the rates of in vitro fertilization, IVD and the cellularity of blastocysts were recorded. Additionally, effect of the best dosage on ovarian follicle population and the ability of immature oocytes to mature in vitro were evaluated. Administration of 200 mg/kg significantly increased the percentage of 48 cells, morula and blastocyst embryos compared to the control group (pB0.05). Furthermore, total cellularity of blastocysts was significantly higher with the administration of 200 mg/kg of extract in comparison to control group (pB0.05). Therefore, the most effective dosage was considered to be 200 mg/kg. With the administration of 200 mg/kg no marked changes were observed in the IVM rate of retrieved oocytes from treated group in comparison to control group. Furthermore, the percentage of ovarian follicles was not significantly different when compared to control group. Also, during visual evaluations no abnormal apoptosis was detected in follicles of ovaries treated with 200 mg/kg when compared to control group. Higher IVD and blastocyst cellularity in the group treated with defined dosage of P. rhoeas indicates that the extract affects ovaries in a dose dependent manner. The extract possibly increases the quality of ovulated oocytes and IVD competence of oocytes.

The effects of Kinesio tapes on facial swelling following bimaxillary orthognathic surgery in the supraclavicular region

Mohsen Golkar,Anita Taheri,Mostafa Alam,Yasin Asadi,Seied Omid Keyhan 대한악안면성형재건외과학회 2023 Maxillofacial Plastic Reconstructive Surgery Vol.45 No.-

Background Several osteotomies are required for orthognathic surgery to reposition the jaws correctly. This study aimed to evaluate whether Kinesiotaping can reduce swelling, pain, and trismus following orthognathic surgery of the facial skull. Materials and methods The present study consists of two phases. In the split-mouth phase, 16 skeletal class III patients underwent Bimax Orthognathic surgery, and Kinesiological tape (KT) was applied on one half of the face. In the prospective case–control phase, 30 patients were divided into two groups. Kinesio tape was applied on both sides of the face of the Kinesio group, and pressure dressing and ice therapy were used for the second group. The tape was parallel to the lower border of the mandible along its entire length, tangent to the labial commissure area on the studied side. The tape was placed in place for 5 days. Edema was evaluated by measuring the distance from the menton to the lower edge of the tragus. The maximum mouth-opening trismus was evaluated, and the VAS index was used to evaluate pain. Results There was evidence of swelling reduction after KT; within the same study, differences between the left and right sides as well as for the same side were statistically significant (p < 0.001). As a result of tapping lymphatic Kinesio tape on the affected area, tension was reduced, and lymphatic circulation was restored. Blood and lymph microcirculation was improved, enabling the body to heal itself. Conclusion Kinesio tape reduced swelling after orthognathic surgery in a positive way. As a simple, non-traumatic, economical method, Kinesio taping seems promising.

Optimum Allocation of Reactive Power in Real-Time Operation under Deregulated Electricity Market

Rajabzadeh, Mahdi,Golkar, Masoud A. The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers 2009 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.4 No.3

Deregulation in power industry has made the reactive power ancillary service management a critical task to power system operators from both technical and economic perspectives. Reactive power management in power systems is a complex combinatorial optimization problem involving nonlinear functions with multiple local minima and nonlinear constraints. This paper proposes a practical market-based reactive power ancillary service management scheme to tackle the challenge. In this paper a new model for voltage security and reactive power management is presented. The proposed model minimizes reactive support cost as an economic aspect and insures the voltage security as a technical constraint. For modeling validation study, two optimization algorithm, a genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) method are used to solve the problem of optimum allocation of reactive power in power systems under open market environment and the results are compared. As a case study, the IEEE-30 bus power system is used. Results show that the algorithm is well competent for optimal allocation of reactive power under practical constraints and price based conditions.

Hajizadeh, Amin,Golkar, Masoud Aliakbar The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers 2008 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.3 No.2

This paper presents the operation of Fuel Cell Distributed Generation(FCDG) systems in distribution systems. Hence, modeling, controller design, and simulation study of a Solid Oxide Fuel Cell(SOFC) distributed generation(DG) system are investigated. The physical model of the fuel cell stack and dynamic models of power conditioning units are described. Then, suitable control architecture based on fuzzy logic and the neural network for the overall system is presented in order to activate power control and power quality improvement. A MATLAB/Simulink simulation model is developed for the SOFC DG system by combining the individual component models and the controllers designed for the power conditioning units. Simulation results are given to show the overall system performance including active power control and voltage regulation capability of the distribution system.

Histological evaluation of the effect of VEGF on auto-transplanted mouse ovaries

        Maryam Zand-vakili,Hussein Eimani,Afsaneh Golkar-Narenji,Poopak Eftekhari-Yazdi,Abdolhosein Shahverdi,Paul Edward Mozdziak 한국통합생물학회 2016 Animal cells and systems Vol.20 No.5

One of the most important factors affecting survival rate of ovarian follicles during transplantation period is proper vascular development. The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) on auto-transplanted ovarian tissue. Twenty-one-dayold female mice (n = 30) transplanted as control group and 21-day-old female mice (n = 40) were divided into 4 groups that were treated with 0.5, 1, 2 and 4 μg/mL of VEGF directly injected to auto-transplanted ovarian tissue. Twenty-one days after transplantation, mice were treated with 7.5 IU pregnant mare serum gonadotropin and human chorionic gonadotropin. Transplanted ovaries were removed and sections were prepared from transplanted tissues for staining. The most effective dosage of VEGF on transplanted tissue was determined over H&E (hematoxylin and eosin) staining results. Slides were compared using TUNEL staining and CD31 assay for the most effective dosage. The percentages of preantral and antral follicles were not significantly different between transplanted group with 4 μg/mL VEGF and non-transplanted group. Lower apoptotic areas and higher CD31 expression were observed in transplanted ovaries treated with 4 μg/mL VEGF when compared to transplanted ovaries without VEGF treatment. VEGF positively affects the quality of ovarian tissue during transplantation. Survival rate of follicles and follicular development has improved with the effect of VEGF.
