Evaluating the Mechanical Behavior of Basalt Fibers/Epoxy Composites Containing Surface-modified CaCO3 Nanoparticles

        Arezoo Abdi,Reza Eslami-Farsani,Hamed Khosravi 한국섬유공학회 2018 Fibers and polymers Vol.19 No.3

Polymer matrix composites (PMCs) owing to their outstanding properties such as high strength, low weight, high thermal stability and chemical resistance are broadly utilized in various industries. In the present work, the influence of silanized CaCO3 (S-CaCO3) with 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (3-APTMS) coupling agent at different values (0, 1, 3 and 5 wt.% with respect to the matrix) on the mechanical behavior of basalt fibers (BF)/epoxy composites was examined. BFreinforced composites were fabricated via hand lay-up technique. Experimental results from three-point bending and tensile tests showed that with the dispersion of 3 wt.% S-CaCO3, flexural strength, flexural modulus, tensile strength and tensile modulus enhanced by 28 %, 35 %, 20 % and 30 %, respectively. Microscopic examinations revealed that the development of the mechanical properties of fibrous composites with the incorporation of modified CaCO3 was related to enhancement in the load transfer between the nanocomposite matrix and BF as well as enhanced mechanical properties of the matrix part.

Influence of Nutrients and LED Light Intensities on Biomass Production of Microalgae Chlorella vulgaris

        Arezoo Khalili,Ghasem D. Najafpour,Ghazaleh Amini,Faezeh Samkhaniyani 한국생물공학회 2015 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.20 No.2

Microalgae are viable sources of biological compounds for biodiesel production. In this study, effects of various types of nitrogen sources and nutrients concentrations in the growth medium and different LED light wavelengths and intensities on biomass production of green algae Chlorella vulgaris were investigated. Warm white light with 80 μmol/m2/sec light intensity was determined as the optimal light for biomass production. The results indicated that microalgae growth with urea as nitrogen source was higher than that of other nitrogen sources such as sodium nitrate, ammonium carbonate and ammonium chloride. Maximum biomass concentration (1.37 g/L) was obtained under the following media compositions: urea 0.25 g/L, K2HPO4 0.04 g/L, MgSO4· 7H2O 0.06 g/L, and ammonium ferric citrate 0.01 g/L. Microalgae growth data under the different light wavelengths and intensities were fitted with a mathematical model.

Food frequency questionnaires developed and validated in Iran: a systematic review

        Arezoo Rezazadeh,Nasrin Omidvar,Katherine L,Tucker 한국역학회 2020 Epidemiology and Health Vol.42 No.-

OBJECTIVES: To systematically review and identify food frequency questionnaires (FFQs) developed for the Iranian population and their validation and reproducibility in order to determine possible research gaps and needs. METHODS: Studies were selected by searching for relevant keywords in the PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, Google Scholar, SID, and Iranmedex databases, unpublished data, and theses in November 2016 (updated in September 2019). All English-language and Persian-language papers were included. Duplicates, articles with unrelated content, and articles only containing a protocol were excluded. The FFQs were categorized based on: (1) number of food items in to short (≤80 items) and long (>80 items) and; (2) the aim of the FFQ to explore total consumption pattern/nutrients (general) or to detect specific nutrient(s)/food group(s) (specialized). RESULTS: Sixteen reasonably validated questionnaires were identified. However, only 13 presented a reproducibility assessment. Ten FFQs were categorized as general (7 long, 3 short) and 6 as specialized (3 long, 3 short). The correlation coefficients for nutrient intake between dietary records or recalls and FFQs were 0.07-0.82 for long (general: 0.07-0.82 and specialized: 0.26-0.67) and 0.20-0.67 for short (general: 0.24-0.54 and specialized: 0.20-0.42) FFQs. Long FFQs showed higher validity and reproducibility than short FFQs. Reproducibility of FFQs was acceptable (0.32-0.89). The strongest correlations were reported by studies with shorter intervals between FFQs. CONCLUSIONS: FFQs designed for the Iranian population appear to be appropriate tools for dietary assessment. Despite their acceptable reproducibility, their validity for assessing specific nutrients and their applicability for populations other than those they were developed for may be questionable.

Arezoo Rajabian,Azar Hosseini,Mahmoud Hosseini,Hamid Reza Sadeghnia 한국식품영양과학회 2019 Preventive Nutrition and Food Science Vol.24 No.4

Crocus sativus (saffron) is traditionally used to relieve several ailments. Experimental researches have also investigated applications of saffron and its active constituents for the treatment of a wide spectrum of disorders. This review discusses pharmacological/therapeutic properties of saffron and its main components on memory function, learning ability and seizures, to highlight their merit for alleviating these disorders. An extensive literature review was carried out using various databases including ISI Web of Knowledge, Medline/PubMed, Science Direct, Scopus, Google Scholar, Embase, Biological Abstracts, and Chemical Abstracts. The growing body of evidence showed the value of saffron and its’ components, alone, or in combination with the other pharmaceuticals, for improving learning and memory abilities and controlling seizures. These findings may provide pharmacological basis for the use of saffron in cognitive disturbance and epilepsy. However, further preclinical and clinical studies are necessary.

Theoretical definition of nurse–conscious mechanically ventilated patient communication: a scoping review with qualitative content analysis

        Arezoo Mohamadkhani Ghiasvand,Meimanat Hosseini,Foroozan Atashzadeh-Shoorideh 대한중환자의학회 2023 Acute and Critical Care Vol.38 No.1

Providing critical nursing care for conscious mechanically ventilated patients is mediated via effective communication. This study aimed to identify and map the antecedents, attributes, consequences, and definition of nurse–conscious mechanically ventilated patient communication (N-CMVPC). This scoping review was conducted by searching the Cochrane Library and the CINAHL, Embase, PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus databases, between 2001 and 2021. The keywords queried included "nurses," "mechanically ventilated patients," "mechanical ventilation," "intubated patients," "communication," "interaction," "relationships," "nurse–patient communication," "nurse–patient relations," "intensive care units," and "critical care." Studies related to communication with healthcare personnel or family members were excluded. The results indicated that N-CMVPC manifests as a set of attributes in communication experiences, emotions, methods, and behaviors of the nurse and the patient and is classified into three main themes, nurse communication, patient communication, and quantitative-qualitative aspects. N-CMVPC is a complex, multidimensional, and multi-factor concept. It is often nurse-controlled and can express itself as questions, sentences, or commands in the context of experiences, feelings, and positive or negative behaviors involving the nurse and the patient.

The Association Between Dietary Acidity and Clinical Symptoms in Patients With Rheumatoid Arthritis

( Arezoo Amjadi ),( Yahya Pasdar ),( Shahab Rezaeian ),( Mostafa Nachvak ),( Saeid Ghavamzadeh ),( Mohammad Alizadeh ),( Hadi Abdollahzad ),( Jafar Navabi ) 한국임상영양학회 2022 Clinical Nutrition Research Vol.11 No.4

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between dietary acidity load and clinical symptoms in the patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). This case-control study examined 55 patients with RA and 215 healthy individuals in a Ravansar non-communicable diseases (RaNCDs) cohort study, Iran. Participants’ food intakes were assessed using a validated food frequency questionnaire. The dietary acidity was calculated using potential renal acid load (PRAL), net endogenous acid production (NEAP), and dietary acid load (DAL) scores. The patients with RA were identified based on the self-reporting, medications history, and the approval of the cohort center physician following patients’ examination. The odds ratio (OR) of joint stiffness in fully adjusted model was greater in the upper median of dietary acidity than in the lower median (PRAL: odds ratio [OR], 1.18; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.59-2.36), but there was no statistically significant difference. The OR of joint pain in the upper median of dietary acidity was less than in the lower median in fully adjusted model (PRAL: OR, 0.70; 95% CI, 0.46-1.29), but the difference was not statistically significant. After adjusting potential confounders, people in the upper median of dietary acidity had a higher OR of developing RA than those in the lower median (PRAL: OR, 1.39; 95% CI, 0.70-2.76); however, it was not statistically significant. There was not any statistically significant relationship among dietary acidity and the odds of joint pain, joint stiffness, and developing RA.

Expression of neurotrophic factor genes by human adipose stem cells post-induction by deprenyl

Arezoo Amiri,Maryam Haji Ghasem Kashani,Mohammad Taghi Ghorbanian 대한해부학회 2021 Anatomy & Cell Biology Vol.54 No.1

Human adipose stem cells (hASCs) were introduced as appropriate candidate due to advantages like ease of isolation, in vitro expansion and lack of immune response. Deprenyl (Dep) was used to induce bone marrow stem cells into neuron-like cells. We investigated the Dep effect on neurotrophin genes expression in hASCs and their differentiation into neuron-like cells. The cells were isolated from small pieces of abdominal adipose tissue and subjected to flow cytometry to confirm purification. The osteogenic and adipogenic differentiation were identified. The proliferation rate and neurotrophin genes expression of treated cells were evaluated by MTT, TH immunostaining and RT-PCR. hASCs had positive response to CD44, CD73, CD90, CD105 markers and negative response to CD34 and CD45 markers and differentiated into adipocytes and osteocytes. Exposure to 10 –7 M of Dep for 24 hours caused a significant increase of viable cells and BDNF, NTF-3 genes expression as compared to cultured cells in serum free medium and had no effect on the expression of NGF and GDNF genes. Based on our results, Dep is able to induce BDNF, NTF-3 and NTF-4 genes expression and neroun-like morphology in hASCs.
