Primary chondrosarcoma of skull base presenting as subarachnoid hemorrhage

Guilherme Gago(Guilherme Gago ),Eduardo Ballverdu Zauk(Eduardo Ballverdu Zauk ),Marcelo Paglioli Ferreira(Marcelo Paglioli Ferreira ) 대한두개저학회 2023 대한두개저학회지 Vol.18 No.1

Chondrosarcoma (CSA) is a significant uncommon tumor and tends to be located in the extremi-ties. When it affects the skull base, can be manifested in several ways. We report a case of a CSA in a 21-year-old male patient who presented with headache and neck stiffness. Radiological evaluation revealed a destructive mass in left temporal fossa with surrounding subarachnoid hemorrhage. The angiography was performed with no vascular anomaly. Biopsy of the mass showed characteristic features of a conventional CSA. To the author’s knowledge this is the first report of a skull base chon-drosarcoma presenting with subarachnoid hemorrhage. This case highlights the rarity of this tumor with regard to unusual clinical presentation.

Efficacy of phentolamine mesylate in reducing the duration of various local anesthetics

Gago-Garcia, Alejandro,Barrilero-Martin, Cayetana,Alobera-Gracia, Miguel Angel, del Canto-Pingarron, Mariano,Seco-Calvo, Jesus The Korean Dental Society of Anesthsiology 2021 Journal of Dental Anesthesia and Pain Medicine Vol.21 No.1

Background: To evaluate changes in the effectiveness of phentolamine mesylate in combination with different local anesthetics (LAs) and vasoconstrictors. A prospective randomized double-blind study was conducted with 90 patients divided into three groups, with each group being administered one of three different LAs: lidocaine 2% 1/80,000, articaine 4% 1/200,000, and bupivacaine 0.5% 1/200,000. Methods: We compared treatments administered to the mandible involving a LA blockade of the inferior alveolar nerve. Results were assessed by evaluating reduction in total duration of anesthesia, self-reported patient comfort using the visual analog pain scale, incidence rates of the most common adverse effects, overall patient satisfaction, and patient feedback. Results: The differences among the three groups were highly significant (P < 0.001); time under anesthesia was especially reduced for both the lip and tongue with bupivacaine. The following adverse effects were reported: pain at the site of the anesthetic injection (11.1%), headaches (6.7%), tachycardia (1.1%), and heavy bleeding after treatment (3.3%). The patients' feedback and satisfaction ratings were 100% and 98.9%, respectively. Conclusions: Efficient reversal of LAs is useful in dentistry as it allows patients to return to normal life more readily and avoid common self-injuries sometimes caused by anesthesia. Phentolamine mesylate reduced the duration of anesthesia in the three studied groups, with the highest reduction reported in the bupivacaine group (from 460 min to 230 min for the lip and 270 min for the tongue [P < 0.001]).

Husserl, Peirce et la sémiotique actuelle: Les fondements phénoménologiques de la sémiotique créative

José María Paz Gago 고려대학교 응용문화연구소 2015 에피스테메 Vol.0 No.14

The deep roots of semiotics – Peirce, Husserl, Saussure, Greimas –founded by the Anglo-German and French traditions, have tried torecover its full phenomenological dimension in neo-semiotics. The beingand the world, the interpreter and the signs, the humanistic subject, thesubject of passions and emotions, meaning and object, these are allincluded in the process of signification. Staying close to things, of theworld of reality, as desired by the young Greimas, ensures its deepknowledge and knowledge of the sense of being and appearance.

Vol.0 No.22

It is about proposing a history of theater semiotics, from the texts outlined by Eisenstein and the Russian formalists in the early twenties, who are advancing the future semiological study of the performing arts. This theater semiotics of the first generation will be followed by the structural analysis of the performance and, at the end of the century, the study of the reception of the spectacle. The incursion of digital technologies in the stage (virtual scenographies, actor-avatar: Avactor) means a new challenge for a theatrical semiotics of the fourth generation.

Factors Affecting the Vineyard Populational Diversity of Plasmopara viticola

Boso, Susana,Gago, Pilar,Santiago, Jose-Luis,de la Fuente, Maria,Martinez, Maria-Carmen The Korean Society of Plant Pathology 2019 Plant Pathology Journal Vol.35 No.2

Vitis vinifera is very susceptible to downy mildew (Plasmopara viticola). A number of authors have suggested different genetic populations of this fungus exist in Europe, each showing a different degree of virulence. Work performed to date indicates this diversity to be the result of different factors. In areas where gene flow is greater and recombination more frequent, the diversity of P. viticola appears to be wider. In vineyards isolated by geographic barriers, a race may become dominant and produce clonal epidemics driven by asexual reproduction. The aim of the present work was to identify the conditions that influence the genetic diversity of P. viticola populations in the vineyards of northwestern Spain, where the climatic conditions for the growth of this fungus are very good. Vineyards situated in a closed, narrow valley of the interior, in more open valleys, and on the coast were sampled and the populations of P. viticola detected were differentiated at the molecular level through the examination of microsatellite markers. The populations of P. viticola represented in primary and secondary infections were investigated in the same way. The concentration of airborne sporangia in the vegetative cycle was also examined, as was the virulence of the different P. viticola populations detected. The epidemiological characteristics of the fungus differed depending on the degree of isolation of the vineyard, the airborne spore concentration, and on whether the attack was primary or secondary. Strong isolation was associated with the appearance of dominant fungal races and, therefore, reduced populational diversity.

RESULTS OF THERMAL CREEP TEST ON HIGHLY IRRADIATED ZIRLO

        M. QUECEDO,M. LLORET,J. M. CONDE,C. ALEJANO,J.A. GAGO,F.J. FERNÁNDEZ 한국원자력학회 2009 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.41 No.2

This paper presents a thermal creep test under internal pressure and post-test characterization performed on high burnup (68 MWd/kgU) ZIRLO. This research has been done by the CSN, ENRESA, and ENUSA in order to investigate the behavior of advanced cladding materials in contemporary PWRs at higher burnup under dry cask storage conditions. Also, to investigate the hydride reorientation, the cool-down of the samples after the test has been done in a coordinated manner with the internal pressure. The creep results obtained are consistent with the expected behavior from reference CWSR material, Zr-4. During the test, the material retained significant ductility: one specimen leaked during the test at an engineering strain of the tube section of 17%; remarkably, the crack closed due to de-pressurization. Although significant hydride reorientation occurred during the cool-down under pressure, no specimen failed during the cool-down.
