Correlation of surface potential and SERS-activity of Ag particles formed by electroless deposition on Si-based substrate

        Girel Kseniya,Burko Aliaksandr,Barysiuk Aliaksei,Dubkov Sergey,Gromov Dmitry,Bandarenka Hanna 한국물리학회 2023 Current Applied Physics Vol.49 No.-

We propose an approach to identify points on a timeline of Ag wet electroless deposition on macroporous silicon (macro-PS) that correspond to formation of Ag particles possessing prominent surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) activity. This approach is measuring a surface potential of macro-PS, which sharply decreases at the moment of nearly complete saturating the Si skeleton surface with Ag particles of diameter below 60 nm favorable for an intensive surface plasmon resonance. The most intensive SERS-spectra of 5,5′ -dithio-bis-[2- nitrobenzoic acid] (DTNB) were collected on macro-PS covered with Ag particles for 20 min. Considering breaking S–S bonds of DTNB in presence of Ag, which leads to chemisorption of monomolecular TNB layer on the surface of Ag structures, we claim 2 × 10-9 M TNB detection limit. Lower concentration at 10-10 M resulted in absence of SERS-spectra in some spots showing that the analyte was adsorbed unevenly. The analytical enhancement factor was calculated as ~0.7 × 107.

      • Maxillary Ameloblastoma Case of a Dog

        Aydın Gurel,Gulbin .ennazli,Kur.at Ozer,Ahmet Gulcubuk 대한수의학회 2003 Journal of Veterinary Science Vol.4 No.1

In this report, an ameloblastoma case, which hasbeen occurred on the left maxilla of a 10 year-old,male,German shepherd, was described on the clinicaland morphological features. The mass with thedimensions of 5×2.5 cm was removed totally bymaxillectomy and examined by radiography, magneticresonance (MR) and biopsy. The tumor was histopa-thologically classified ameloblastoma of follicular typeand in some fields showed acanthotic form. Theinvasiveness of the tumor was also observed to behigh. This report is the first case of maxillaryameloblastoma in dogs in Turkey.

Mid-term clinical and radiographic outcomes of porous-coated metaphyseal sleeves used in revision total knee arthroplasty

( Ron Gurel ),( Samuel Morgan ),( Etay Elbaz ),( Itay Ashlenazi ),( Nimrod Snir ),( Assaf Kadar ),( Aviram Gold ),( Yaniv Warschawski ) 대한슬관절학회 2021 대한슬관절학회지 Vol.33 No.-

Background: The management of bone defects remains one of the major challenges surgeons are faced with in revision total knee arthroplasty (RTKA). Large and uncontained bone defects are traditionally managed with metaphyseal sleeves that facilitate osseointegration and have reported construct stability. While many studies have presented excellent short-term outcomes using metaphyseal sleeves, less is known on their performance in the longer term. The purpose of this study was to present our mid-term results of the metaphyseal sleeves used in patients undergoing RTKA. Materials and methods: Between January 2007 and January 2015, 30 patients underwent RTKA with the use of a CCKMB prosthesis combined with an osteointegrative sleeve. The main indications for RTKA were instability in 40% of the cases (n = 12), aseptic loosening in 30% (n = 9), infection in 26.7% (n = 8), and “other” in 3.3% (n = 1). The minimal follow-up time was 5 years and the mean follow-up time was 82.4 months (SD = 22.6). Clinical outcomes were assessed by Knee Society scores (KSS), range of motion and rate of re-operation. Results: The mean Knee Society score increased significantly from 72.1 preoperatively to 90.0 postoperatively (p < 0.001). The cumulative incidence of re-operation in our study was 13.3% (n = 4). Our study reported no cases of aseptic loosening or mobile-bearing spin-out. Knee flexion to 90° and more was impossible in seven cases (23.3%) preoperatively and in one case (3.3%) postoperatively. Conclusion: Porous-coated metaphyseal sleeves demonstrated excellent rates of survivorship and radiographic ingrowth in the mid-term setting. However, further studies are required to assess their outcomes in the long-term.

Association between Red Blood Cell Distribution Width and Coronary Artery Calcification in Patients Undergoing 64-Multidetector Computed Tomography

        Ozgul Malcok Gürel,Muhammed Bora Demircelik,Mukadder Ayse Bilgic,Hakki Yilmaz,Omer Caglar Yilmaz,Muzaffer Cakmak,Beyhan Eryonucu 대한심장학회 2015 Korean Circulation Journal Vol.45 No.5

Background and Objectives: The red blood cell distribution width (RDW) has been found to be associated with cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. The objective of this study was to determine whether the RDW measures are associated with the coronary artery calcification score (CACS) in patients who did not present with obvious coronary heart disease (CHD). Subjects and Methods: A total of 527 consecutive patients with a low to intermediate risk for CHD but without obvious disease were enrolled in this study. The study subjects underwent coronary computerized tomography angiography and CACS was calculated. The patients were divided into two groups based on CACS: Group I (CACS≤100) and Group II (CACS>100). The two groups were compared in terms of classic CHD risk factors and haematological parameters, particularly the RDW. Results: Group I patients were younger than Group II patients. The Framingham risk score (FRS) in patients of Group II was significantly higher than that in patients of Group I. Group II patients had significantly elevated levels of haemoglobin, RDW, neutrophil count, and neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio compared with Group I patients. CACS was correlated with age, RDW, and ejection fraction. In the multivariate analysis, age, RDW, and FRS were independent predictors of CACS. Using the receiver-operating characteristic curve analysis, a RDW value of 13.05% was identified as the best cut-off for predicting the severity of CACS (>100) (area under the curve=0.706). Conclusion: We found that the RDW is an independent predictor of the CACS, suggesting that it might be a useful marker for predicting CAD.

      • Site-directed Mutagenesis of Five Conserved Residues of Subunit I of the Cytochrome cbb3 Oxidase in Rhodobacter capsulatus

Ozturk, Mehmet,Gurel, Ekrem,Watmough, Nicholas J.,Mandaci, Sevnur Korean Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biol 2007 Journal of biochemistry and molecular biology Vol.40 No.5

Cytochrome $cbb_3$ oxidase is a member of the heme-copper oxidase superfamily that catalyses the reduction of molecular oxygen to the water and conserves the liberated energy in the form of a proton gradient. Comparison of the amino acid sequences of subunit I from different classes of heme-copper oxidases showed that transmembrane helix VIII and the loop between transmembrane helices IX and X contain five highly conserved polar residues; Ser333, Ser340, Thr350, Asn390 and Thr394. To determine the relationship between these conserved amino acids and the activity and assembly of the $cbb_3$ oxidase in Rhodobacter capsulatus, each of these five conserved amino acids was substituted for alanine by site-directed mutagenesis. The effects of these mutations on catalytic activity were determined using a NADI plate assay and by measurements of the rate of oxygen consumption. The consequence of these mutations for the structural integrity of the $cbb_3$ oxidase was determined by SDS-PAGE analysis of chromatophore membranes followed by TMBZ staining. The results indicate that the Asn390Ala mutation led to a complete loss of enzyme activity and that the Ser333Ala mutation decreased the activity significantly. The remaining mutants cause a partial loss of catalytic activity. All of the mutant enzymes, except Asn390Ala, were apparently correctly assembled and stable in the membrane of the R. capsulatus.

Lesions in the thymus and bone marrow in chicks with experimentally induced chicken infectious anemia disease

Burak Kuscu,Aydin Gurel 대한수의학회 2008 JOURNAL OF VETERINARY SCIENCE Vol.9 No.1

One-day-old SPF chicks were inoculated with the Cux-l strain of chicken infectious anemia virus (CIAV), and the clinical development of disease and its macroscopic and microscopic alterations in the thymus and bone marrow, were observed. Tissue sections of thymus and bone marrow were stained using the streptavidin-biotin peroxidase method and examined under light microscope for evaluation of antigenic intensities in tissues. Those findings were then compared with blood parameters and ELISA results obtained through collected sera during sacrifice procedures. We sought to determine: the localization of viral antigens in thymus and bone marrow tissues after inoculation, the correlation between antigen intensities and hematologic, serologic and histopathologic findings, definitive diagnostic criteria using histopathologic and immunoperoxidase methods, and the reliability of these methods in the diagnosis of CIAV infection. For this purpose, 83, one-day-old SPF chicks were used. The birds were divided into experimental (n = 52) and control (n = 26) groups. A virus dose of TCID50 of 100,000/ml was administered intramuscularly to every bird in the experimental group. Based on the results of this study, we have suggested that clinical examination, along with macroscopic and microscopic evaluation of the thymus and bone marrow, maybe undertaken starting from day 7 post-inoculation (PI). ELISA, might be of value, as it might give consistent results starting from day 14 PI. However, the most reliable results were obtained through examination of thymus and bone marrow sections from infected birds stained by immunoperoxidase technique, as early as day 4 PI.
