Contraband Identification Algorithm for Intelligent Millimeter-wave Security Screening Device based on Regional-convolution Neural Network Algorithm for Civil Aviation

Fengwei Chen,Tianyou Wu 대한전자공학회 2024 IEIE Transactions on Smart Processing & Computing Vol.13 No.2

Security is directly tied to the protection of public property and lives and is one of the key safeguards for the regular functioning of civil aviation. Millimeter-wave-based security screening technology has been developed to handle the demand for security screening during periods of high passenger traffic and to minimize the involvement of security personnel. But it cannot meet the need for quick passage at peak passenger flow because the present millimeter-wave contraband image content is insufficient, and the target-detection accuracy is low. In order to solve this problem, this study examined the denoising of millimeter-wave contraband images based on mean filtering and the wavelet transform, and the Canny algorithm was used to realize the edge detection of images. A mask region-convolutional neural network algorithm was used to identify contraband targets in the detection area to realize the real-time monitoring of millimeter-wave security equipment. The peak signal-to-noise ratio and mean square error of the mean filtered denoising-wavelet transform algorithm were 25.439 dB and 65.4781, respectively. The classification accuracy rates were greater than those of the fast area convolutional neural network model-based approach (93.65%, 89.94%, and 91.25%, respectively). In conclusion, the suggested algorithm is reliable and effective at locating and identifying targets for contraband in civil aviation security screening.

Lactobacillus rhamnosus CCFM1107 treatment ameliorates alcohol -induced liver injury in a mouse model of chronic alcohol feeding

        Fengwei Tian,Feifei Chi,Gang Wang,Xiaoming Liu,Qiuxiang Zhang,Yongquan Chen,Hao Zhang,Wei Chen 한국미생물학회 2015 The journal of microbiology Vol.53 No.12

Lactobacillus rhamnosus CCFM1107 was screened for high antioxidative activity from 55 lactobacilli. The present study attempted to explore the protective properties of L. rhamnosus CCFM1107 in alcoholic liver injury. A mouse model was induced by orally feeding alcohol when simultaneously treated with L. rhamnosus CCFM1107, the drug Hu-Gan- Pian (HGP), L. rhamnosus GG (LGG), and L. plantarum CCFM1112 for 3 months. Biochemical analysis was performed for both serum and liver homogenate. Detailed intestinal flora and histological analyses were also carried out. Our results indicated that the administration of L. rhamnosus CCFM1107 significantly inhibited the increase in the levels of serum aminotransferase and endotoxin, as well as the levels of triglyceride (TG) and cholesterol (CHO) in the serum and in the liver. Glutathione (GSH), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were elevated while the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) were decreased. The enteric dysbiosis caused by alcohol was restored by increasing the numbers of both lactobacilli and bifidobacteria and decreasing the numbers of both enterococci and enterobacter. Histological analysis confirmed the protective effect of L. rhamnosus CCFM1107. Compared with the other lactobacilli and to the drug Hu-Gan-Pian, there is a high chance that L. rhamnosus CCFM1107 provides protective effects on alcoholic liver injury by reducing oxidative stress and restoring the intestinal flora.

K-Nearest Neighbor Associative Memory with Reconfigurable Word-Parallel Architecture

        Fengwei An,Keisuke Mihara,Shogo Yamasaki,Lei Chen,Hans Jurgen Mattausch 대한전자공학회 2016 Journal of semiconductor technology and science Vol.16 No.4

IC-implementations provide high performance for solving the high computational cost of pattern matching but have relative low flexibility for satisfying different applications. In this paper, we report an associative memory architecture for k nearest neighbor (KNN) search, which is one of the most basic algorithms in pattern matching. The designed architecture features reconfigurable vector-component parallelism enabled by programmable switching circuits between vector components, and a dedicated majority vote circuit. In addition, the main time-consuming part of KNN is solved by a clock mapping concept based weighted frequency dividers that drastically reduce the in principle exponential increase of the worst-case search-clock number with the bit width of vector components to only a linear increase. A test chip in 180 ㎚ CMOS technology, which has 32 rows, 8 parallel 8-bit vector-components in each row, consumes altogether in peak 61.4 ㎽ and only 11.9 mW for nearest squared Euclidean distance search (at 45.58 ㎒ and 1.8 V).

Evaluation of Antioxidative Effects of Lactobacillus plantarum with Fuzzy Synthetic Models

( Jichun Zhao ),( Fengwei Tian ),( Shuang Yan ),( Qixiao Zhai ),( Hao Zhang ),( Wei Chen ) 한국미생물생명공학회(구 한국산업미생물학회) 2018 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.28 No.7

Numerous studies suggest that the effects of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) on oxidative stress in vivo are correlated with their antioxidative activities in vitro; however, the relationship is still unclear and contradictory. The antioxidative activities of 27 Lactobacillus plantarum strains isolated from fermented foods were determined in terms of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl, hydroxyl radical, and superoxide radical scavenging abilities, reducing activity, resistance to hydrogen peroxide, and ferrous chelating ability in vitro. Two fuzzy synthetic evaluation models, one with an analytic hierarchy process and one using entropy weight, were then used to evaluate the overall antioxidative abilities of these L. plantarum strains. Although there was some difference between the two models, the highest scoring strain (CCFM10), the middle scoring strain (CCFM242), and the lowest scoring strain (RS15-3) were obtained with both models. Examination of the antioxidative abilities of these three strains in D-galactose-induced oxidative stress mice demonstrated that their overall antioxidative abilities in vitro could reveal the abilities to alleviate oxidative stress in vivo. The current study suggests that assessment of overall antioxidative abilities with fuzzy synthetic models can guide the evaluation of probiotic antioxidants. It might be a more quick and effective method to evaluate the overall antioxidative abilities of LAB.

An Improved Consistent Subspace Identification Method Using Parity Space for State-space Models

        Jie Hou,Fengwei Chen,Penghua Li,Zhiqin Zhu,Fei Liu 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2019 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.17 No.5

In this paper, an alternative consistent subspace identification method using parity space is proposed. The future/past input data and the past output data are used to construct the instrument variable to eliminate thenoise effect on consistent estimation. The extended observability matrix and the triangular block-Toeplitz matrixare then retrieved from a parity space of the noise-free matrix using a singular value decomposition based method. The system matrices are finally estimated from the above estimated matrices. The consistency of the proposedmethod for estimation of the extended observability matrix and the triangular block-Toeplitz matrix is established. Compared with the classical SIMs using parity space like SIMPCA and SIMPCA-Wc, the proposed method generallyenhances the estimated model efficiency/accuracy thanks to the use of future input data. Two examples arepresented to illustrate the effectiveness and merit of the proposed method.

The Correlation between Thyrotropin and Dyslipidemia in a Population-based Study

        Li Lu,Beibei Wang,Zhongyan Shan,Fengwei Jiang,Xiaochun Teng,Yanyan Chen,Yaxin Lai,Jiani Wang,Haibo Xue,Sen Wang,Chenyan Li,He Liu,Ningna Li,Jiashu Yu,Liangfeng Shi,Xin Hou,Qian Xing,Xue Bai,Weiping Te 대한의학회 2011 Journal of Korean medical science Vol.26 No.2

This study investigated the relationship between serum thyrotrophin levels and dyslipidemia in subclinical hypothyroid and euthyroid subjects. A total of 110 subjects with subclinical hypothyroidism and 1,240 euthyroid subjects enrolled in this study. Patients with subclinical hypothyroidism had significantly lower high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels than those who were euthyroid. The lipid profiles were each categorized and mean thyrotrophin levels were higher in subjects in the dyslipidemia subclasses than subjects in the normal subclasses. Thyrotrophin was positively associated with serum triglyceride and negatively associated with serum HDL-C in women. Thyrotrophin was also positively associated with total cholesterol (TC) in the overweight population along with TC and LDL-C in overweight women. In the euthyroid population, thyrotrophin was positively associated with TC in the overweight population. In conclusion, serum thyrotrophin was correlated with dyslipidemia in subclinical hypothyroid and euthyroid subjects; the correlation was independent of insulin sensitivity.

Synergistic Protective Effects of Different Dietary Supplements Against Type 2 Diabetes via Regulating Gut Microbiota

        Leilei Yu,Xingting Zhou,Hui Duan,Ying Chen,Shumao Cui,Yuzheng Xue,Renmei Guo,Yuzheng Xue,Fengwei Tian,Jianxin Zhao,Hao Zhang,Qixiao Zhai,Wei Chen 한국식품영양과학회 2021 Journal of medicinal food Vol.24 No.3

Diabetes mellitus is a global health problem, and its prevalence continues to increase. Dietary supplements, including probiotics, prebiotics, and plant extracts, have been shown to alleviate diabetes. In this study, the synergistic effects of two types of dietary supplements were investigated in a mouse model of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Sixty mice were divided into the following six groups: control, model (induced by a high-fat diet and intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin), drug (metformin), probiotic (Lactobacillus spp.), formula A (probiotics, plant extracts, and soybean peptide), and formula B (probiotics, prebiotics, and soybean peptide). All three dietary interventions (probiotic, formula A, and formula B groups) significantly reduced the blood glucose level and oral glucose tolerance level and effectively improved some biochemical parameters (e.g., chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, and blood lipid level) and regulated gut microbiota. Notably, formula B exhibited a better ability on reducing the blood glucose level, regulating the gut microbiota, and increasing the short-chain fatty acid levels compared with the probiotics alone and formula A. Thus, formula B may exert synergistic protective effects against T2DM through a mechanism involving probiotics and prebiotics of gut microbiota regulation. This study provides a theoretical basis for the application of probiotic dietary supplements to the treatment of T2DM.

Physiological Characteristics of Lactobacillus casei Strains and Their Alleviation Effects against Inflammatory Bowel Disease

( Yang Liu ),( Yifeng Li ),( Xinjie Yu ),( Leilei Yu ),( Fengwei Tian ),( Jianxin Zhao ),( Hao Zhang ),( Qixiao Zhai ),( Wei Chen ) 한국미생물생명공학회(구 한국산업미생물학회) 2021 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.31 No.1

Lactobacillus casei, one of the most widely used probiotics, has been reported to alleviate multiple diseases. However, the effects of this species on intestinal diseases are strain-specific. Here, we aimed to screen L. casei strains with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)-alleviating effects based on in vitro physiological characteristics. Therefore, the physiological characteristics of 29 L. casei strains were determined, including gastrointestinal transit tolerance, oligosaccharide fermentation, HT-29 cell adhesion, generation time, exopolysaccharide production, acetic acid production, and conjugated linoleic acid synthesis. The effects of five candidate strains on mice with induced colitis were also evaluated. The results showed that among all tested L. casei strains, only Lactobacillus casei M2S01 effectively relieved colitis. This strain recovered body weight, restored disease activity index score, and promoted anti-inflammatory cytokine expression. Gut microbiota sequencing showed that L. casei M2S01 restored a healthy gut microbiome composition. The western blotting showed that the alleviating effects of L. casei M2S01 on IBD were related to the inhibition of the NF-κB pathway. A good gastrointestinal tolerance ability may be one of the prerequisites for the IBD-alleviating effects of L. casei. Our results verified the efficacy of L. casei in alleviating IBD and lay the foundation for the rapid screening of L. casei strain with IBD-alleviating effects.
