Background: To assess the efficacy and tolerability of Cisplatin plus Gemcitabine combination in patients with brain metastases (BM) from breast cancer (BC). Materials and Methods: Eighteen BC patients with BM who were treated with Cisplatin plus Gemcitabine regimen between 2003-2011 were evaluated. Results: A median of 6 cycles of this regimen were received, in fifteen patients (83.3%) as first-line chemotherapy, in 2 as second-line and in 1 as third-line after diagnosis of BM. Dose reduction was performed in 11 (61.1%) patients; major reasons were neutropenia and leukopenia. Grade III neutropenia and Grade II trombocytopenia rates were 33.3% and 16.7% respectively. Overall response rate (ORR; complete+partial response rate) was 33.4% (n=6) for the entire study population; triple negative patients achieved an 66.6% ORR while hormone receptor (HR) positive patients had 25% and HER2 positive patients 12.5%. Median progression-free survival was 5.6 months (2.4-8.8 months, 95%CI) and longer in patients with triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) (median 7.4 months, 95%CI, 2.4-12.3 months) than the patients with other subtypes (median 5 months for HER2 positive and 3.6 months for HR positive patients). Median PFS of the patients with TNBC who received this regimen as first-line was 9.2 months (5.2-13.2 months, 95%CI). Conclusions: Cisplatin plus Gemcitabine may be a treatment option for patients with BM from breast cancer. Longer PFS and higher response rates are results that support the usage of this regimen especially for the triple negative subtype. However, further prospective and randomized trials are clearly required to provide more exact information.

We report the synthesis, electrochemical and photovoltaic properties of triphenylamine based novel organic sensitizer, comprising donor, electron-conducting and anchoring group. Different triphenylamines were synthesized as donor unit and connected to cyano-acidic acid acceptor over vinyl group. In this work, we studied on two novel dyes (TPA2, TPA3) by attaching methyl to m-position and diphenylamine to p-position of the basic triphenylamine structure, respectively. All derivatives absorb at visible region of solar spectrum in the range of 350–632 nm. By introducing strong electron injection groups to triphenylamine ring, band gap becomes narrower while EHOMO–ELUMO levels are tuned. All current voltage (I–V)measurements were done under 100 mW/㎠ light intensity and AM 1.5 conditions. TPA3 chromophore with the lowest band gap shows the best cell performance with an efficiency (η) of 4.12%, a short-circuit photocurrent density (Isc) of 8.07 mA/㎠, an open-circuit voltage (Voc) of 714 mV and a fill factor (FF) of 0.72.

Two ruthenium complexes with carboxyl and sulfonyl groups have been synthesized, [RuII(L1)2(NCS)2]RuIIbis(4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline-disulfonic acid disodium salt)-di(thiocyanate) [K313],[RuII(L1)2(dcbpy)] RuII bis(4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline-disulfonic acid disodium salt)(4,40-dicarboxy-2,20-bipyridyl) [K314] as photosensitizers. UV–vis, fluorescence emission, AFM and CVmeasurements are also supplied for ruthenium complexes. Photovoltaic properties of dye sensitizednanocrystalline semiconductor solar cells based on Ruthenium complexes which bear carboxyl andsunfonyl groups have been tested under standard AM 1.5 sunlight. Under the standard global AM 1.5solar conditions, K314 and K313-sensitized solar cells demonstrate short circuit photocurrentdensities of 14.92 mA/cm2 and 11.23 mA/cm2 and overall conversion efficiencies of 5.09% and 4.02%,respectively.

Hybrid solar cells have been fabricated using perylene monoimide.monoanhydride dyes with nanorod zinc oxide electrodes as electron transporting layers. We have investigated the influence of the spacer alkyl chain length of perylene monoimide.monoanhydride (PMIMA) dyes on the device performance in hybrid solar cells using nanorod zinc oxide electrodes. Nanorod zinc oxide electrodes with 50. 150 nm of diameter were synthesized in the presence of PEG400 by using microwave heating method. We observed that the dyes with longer and brunched alkyl chains exhibit higher efficiencies in hybrid solar cells. We report the highest efficiency obtained with zinc oxide nanorods under standard conditions for perylene monoimide.monoanhydride derivative with PMIMA_1 that performs 400 mV open circuit voltage, 2.81 mA/cm2 short-circuit current and 0.59% overall conversion efficiency.

The absence of an important portion of the web plate in steel beams with multiple circular perforations, cellular beams, causes the web plate to undergo distortions prior to and during lateral torsional buckling (LTB). The conventional LTB equations in the codes and literature underestimate the buckling moments of cellular beams due to web distortions. The present study is an attempt to develop analytical methods for estimating the elastic buckling moments of cellular beams. The proposed methods rely on the reductions in the torsional and warping rigidities of the beams due to web distortions and the reductions in the weak-axis bending and torsional rigidities due to the presence of web openings. To test the accuracy of the analytical estimates from proposed solutions, a total of 114 finite element analyses were conducted for six different standard IPEO sections and varying unbraced lengths within the elastic limits. These analyses clearly indicated that the LTB solutions in the AISC 360- 16 and AS4100:2020 codes overestimate the buckling loads of cellular beams within elastic limits, particularly at shorter span lengths. The LDB solutions in the literature and the Eurocode 3 LTB solution, on the other hand, provided conservative buckling moment estimates along the entire range of elastic buckling.

<P>Cu(In,Ga)(Se,S)2 (CIGSS) films are formed on flexible 430 stainless steel foils through reacting Cu-In-Ga metal precursors in H2 Se and H2S. The foils are coated using an electrically insulating silicone-based resin that can sustain temperatures as high as 600 °C. NaF films with various thicknesses are deposited between the metal precursor and Mo back contact in order to incorporate Na into the CIGSS films. The metal precursor reaction with the extrinsic Na incorporation results in greater Ga homogenization and S incorporation. The higher Na incorporation enhances VOC and lowers JSC . The temperature-dependent VOC and drive-level capacitance profiling measurements reveal that the Na incorporation results in higher activation energy of the recombination and increased carrier density.</P>

Objective: The aim was to investigate indicators related to DNA damage and cancer pathogenesis in Type II diabetes cases with breast cancer. It was planned to evaluate the relationship between these markers with oral antidiabetic drugs. Research Design and Methods: Fourty patients and 10 healthy individuals were included in the study. HIF-$1{\alpha}$ and 8-OHdG are examined in blood samples taken from these individuals with an ELISA Kit. Statistical analysis of data was performed with 95% confidence using Windows package program SPSS 15.0. Results: HIF-$1{\alpha}$ parameters were found to be meaningfully higher in the patient group than the controls in both pretreatment and posttreatment periods (p<0.05). No significant differences in terms of 8-OHdG between patients and controls. However, posttreatment serum HIF-$1{\alpha}$ ve 8-OHdG levels was found lower than pretreatment levels in patients receiving metformin, but not with pioglitazone. Conversely, serum 8-OHdG levels decreased significantly in these patients. When patients were evaluated according to the treatment groups (pioglitazone vs. metfformin) no significant differences in terms of serum HIF-$1{\alpha}$ and 8-OHdG levels between treatment groups. Conclusions: HIF-$1{\alpha}$ levels decreased significantly in the patient group receiving metformin. However, there was no significant difference in terms of HIF-$1{\alpha}$ levels in the patients receiving pioglitazone.
