        Efficacy of Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection for Leukocytospermia

        White blood cells (WBCs) are present in most human ejaculates, but abnormally high concentration of seminal leukocytes map reflect an underlying pathological condition. The World Health Organization (WHO) has defined leukocytospermia as status of more than 10^(6) WBC/mL of semen. The purpose of this study was firstly, to compare the outcomes between conventional IVF and ICSl in leukocytospermia, and secondly, to investigate whether ICSI may be an alternation treatment for patients with leukocytospermia. Total 346 cycles of conventional IVF and ICSI candidates underwent IVF cycles at Eulji Hospital Infertility Clinic. Semen Parameters including concentration, motility, morphology of spermatozoa and concentration of leukocytes were assessed from the raw ejaculates. There was no difference in sperm concentration, motility and morphology. The rates of fertilization and good embryo development from ICSI were significantly higher than those from conventional IVF in leukocytospermia (60.4% & 32.5% respectively for ICSI group and 44.4% & 28.5%, respectively for IVF group, P<0.001). The pregnancy rate after ICSI was also higher than that from conventional IVF (34.0% vs 29.1%. P<0.05). These results indicate that the presence of seminal leukocyes (>1×10^(6) WBC/mL of semen) is adversely related with fertilization, embryo development and pregnancy rate. Therfore the measurement of seminal leukocytes in routine semen analysis appears to be of prognostic value with regard to male fertilizing potential. In conclusion. it is suggested that ICSI is an alternative choice of treatment for patients with leukocytospermia.

        The spherical aberration was investigated with the different surface curvatures of meniscus lens. An incident ray with variable height from the optical axis shows different values of spherical aberration. Therefore, our results reveal the dependence of aberrations on surface curvatures and concluded that the aberration can be reduced by adjusting lens shapes.

        With the growing need of the country's electrical energy from nuclear power generation, the technical importance on the load following has been widely recognized. The load following is being executed by two modes, Boron Regeneration System(BRS) and Boron Thermal Regeneration System(BTRS). Especially, the function of BTRS is solely relied on the efficient use of Boration/dilution in strongly basic resin bed. Therefore, the most influential factors to be investigated in load following operation is to determine the effect of boron concentration in burn-up reactivity and to find the way how to improve the BTRS in order for reusing all the reactor cooling water contaminated by radioactive wastes. This study is mainly devoted to the following purposes : (1) Evaluation of operation data in nuclear power plant about the relation of burn-up reactivity and boron dilution/ boration in BTRS. (2) Diagnostic suggestion on the solving problems in operation of Demineralizer(exchange resin bed).

      • 숫돌 형상 변화에 따른 연삭가공면 특성

        숫돌 형상 변화에 따른 연삭가공시 나타나는 온도의 변화를 연삭가공면의 특성으로 파악하는 실험적 연구를 하였다. 숫돌의 형상은 슬롯형태로 폭과 각도의 변화에 의하여 변경시켰으며, 또한 일반숫돌인 경우 특성을 비교 분석하였다. 슬롯형 숫돌인 경우 슬롯의 폭이 10mm이고, 각도가 30°때 낮은 연삭온도를 나타내고 있었다. 표면거칠기 상태는 일반숫돌인 경우보다 슬롯형 숫돌일 경우 대체로 표면상태가 나쁘다는 것을 알았으며, 슬롯의 폭이 6mm이고 각도가 45°인 숫돌과 일반숫돌의 특성을 비교해 볼 때 유사한 경향을 나타내고 있었다. The characteristics of ground surface by different shapes of wheel were found by grinding temperature and surface roughness. The shapes of wheel are changed by slots, which has different width and helical angle, and compared with the case of general one. Lower grinding temperature was obtained for 30°helical angle and width of 10mm. The characteristics of surface roughness of slotted wheels were found to be rough, but the value of roughness for the slotted wheel with 45°helical angel and width of 6mm was similar tendency for the general wheel.

        A New Black Seed Cost Soybean Cultivar, "Heugmi" with Lodging Tolerance and Green Cotyledon

        A new black seed coat soybean cultivar, “Heugmi” was developed at the Yeongnam Agricultural Research Institute (YARI) in 2006. The goal to breed the black seed coat soybean is to develop the cultivar with high yield, lodging tolerance, resistant to disease such as soybean mosaic virus (SMV), and bacterial pustule and seed size. Heugmi was selected from the cross between Milyang 78, which was late maturing, susceptible to lodging and SMV and with large seed size and green cotyledon, and Milyang 68, which was middle maturing, resistant to lodging and SMV and with middle seed size and yellow cotyledon. The preliminary, advanced and regional yield trials for evaluation and selection of this cultivar were carried out from 2001 to 2006. It has determinate growth habit, purple flower, brown pubescence, black pod color, black seed coat, green cotyledon, spherical seed shape, oval leaf shape and middle seed size (24.8 grams per 100 seeds), and it was 2 days earlier in maturity than the check cultivar Cheongjakong. Heugmi was better in the seed quality of crude protein contents, sucrose and total sugar contents than the check cultivar. It also has been identified to have resistance to SMV which was the troublesome soybean diseases. The average yield of Heugmi was 2.53 ton per hectare in the regional yield trials carried out in seven locations of Korea from 2004 to 2006, which was 8 percent higher than the check cultivar Cheongjakong.

        A New Garden Pea Cultivar "Daehyup 2" with Large Seed Size and High Sugar Contents

        A new garden pea cultivar, Daehyup 2, was developed at the Yeongnam Agricultural Research Institute (YARI) in 2006. It was selected from the cross between Olwandu and Sachulwandu in 1996. The preliminary, advanced, and regional yield trials for evaluation and selection of this cultivar were carried out from 2003 to 2006. It has white flower, yellow cotyledon, absent or very weakly curved pod shape and yellow seed color. It was resistant to virus and powdery mildew disease. The 100 green seed weight of Daehyup 2 was 65.5 g, which was 8.9 g heavier than check cultivar. The sucrose and total sugar contents of fresh pod of Daehyup 2 were 11.1% and 12.5%, respectively, which were 3.2% and 4.3% higher than those of Sachulwandu. The fresh pod yield of Daehyup 2 was similar to that of Sachulwandu with 12.16 ton per hectare in the regional yield trials carried out in three locations of Korea from 2005 to 2006.

        알루미늄 합금에서 Zr첨가가 TiB2의 변형과 결정립크기에 미치는 영향

        The poisoning effect of Zr in aluminum alloys was investigated by analyzing the filtered cakes of aluminum alloy melt taken with the Prefil footprinter through a variety of analytic instruments, SEM/EDX, Auger, and TEM. Experimental results indicated that the morphology and chemical composition of the aluminum alloys were not modified with the addition of Zr, which is to previous belief that Zr poisoning is caused by modification of (Ti1-xZrx)Al3. On the other hand, TiAl3 surroundig TiB2 particles was modified and its lattice parameter was more mismatched by increasing Zr content, leading to less nucleation rate. This is also supported by the observation that the poisoning effect is reduced when Ti is added, resulting in a lower content ratio of Zr to Ti. These results suggest that extra Ti should be added to eliminate the poisoning effect of Zr in aluminum alloys containing Zr.

        마루판용 합판의 단판 구성요소에 따른 열전달 특성에 관한 연구

        Since 1990’s, a flooring based on plywood has gotten customers’ demand. Costs of raw material and production increased because of changed environment of industry. Tropical timber such as Red Meranti (Shorea acuminate) used for raw material of the floor has been depleting beside countries in South Eastern Asia changed species of afforestation. As a result, it gets hard to secure good quality of raw material for plywood. Moreover plywood price is increased suddenly after earthquake in Japan. Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) in china has been using for raw material as a countermeasure of changed environment of industry. In this study, possibility of using flooring consisted of Eucalyptus veneer as a core layer was checked by heat transfer experiments. Flooring consisted of Red Meranti was used for comparison. Two factors which impact on heat transfer are a type of density gradient and density difference between Long-grain veneer and Short-grain veneer. Red Meranti samples are ‘M’ type of density gradient on the other hand Eucalyptus samples are ‘W’ type of density gradient.

        항만공사제도의 효율적 운영방안

        In order to improve inefficient and unproductive factors and in response to criticisms of the failure in harbor privatization introduced in 1997, the Korean government introduced the Port Authority system, which is commonly adopted in advanced harbors in the world.<br/> This research examined the theoretical background of harbor management system and various cases of harbor management in foreign countries. The desirable introduction of Port Authority system must be preceded by the settlement of problems in harbor structure and operation. In addition, the Port Authority Act, which restricts the autonomy of harbor corporations, should be improved for user-centered Port Authority system.<br/> Strategies for the successful introduction of Incheon Port Authority are as follows. Firstly it is required to establish consumer-centered harbor operation system. The second requirement is to activate the harbor logistics industry through the development of nearby logistic complexes led by Port Authority and, by doing so, to promote the development of local economy. Thirdly it is essential to lay the foundation of mutual prosperity through developing profitable businesses by linking localities and harbors, and to suggest a crisis control network for Port Authority and local self-governing bodies to cope jointly with crises in logistics and natural disasters.
