Vol.85 No.-

In a situation where movement around the world is restricted due to COVID-19, it is becoming increasingly difficult for Korean universities to attract foreign students. So the need fororganising strategies to attract Chinese students is getting higher than ever. The purpose of this study is to propose solutions on how to attract Chinese students in preparation for the post COVID-19 era. In this research, a survey was conducted on Chinese students who got enrolled in Korean universities. All participants, in total of 1,438, were Chinese nationals. In order to conduct the research properly, a Chinese questionnaire was used and the questions were reconstructed with reference to previous studies. Frequency analysis was performed based on collected questionnaires, and some meaningful results were as follow. More than 68% of Chinese students and their guardians were not satisfied with on-line classes, and they also made a point that the efficiency of on-line classes was lower than that of off-line classes. Also over 95% of Chinese students and their guardians expressed the concerns about lack of experience for overseas study (actual learning in the campus) and expenses for studying abroad. The most concern was that it would have negative effects on students’ academic continuity if on-line classes continue in the future. In order to maximize the stabilization of attracting Chinese students, it is emphasized that support of a customized study environment should be provided to international students. In particular, more than 51% of the survey participants and their guardians plan to change their destinations for overseas study. According to these results, strategic measures for stabilizing the attraction of Chinese students to Korean universities were discussed and suggested in this study in preparation for the post COVID-19 era.

Review of the Preparation and Structures of Si Nanowires, Ge Quantum Dots and Their Composites

        Xiaokang Weng,Jie Yang,Dongze Li,Rongfei Wang,Feng Qiu,Chong Wang,Yu Yang 성균관대학교(자연과학캠퍼스) 성균나노과학기술원 2019 NANO Vol.14 No.4

Because the motion of charge carriers in nanowires and quantum dots is restricted within nanoscale in two and three dimensions, respectively, both nanowires and quantum dots exhibit many excellent optoelectronic properties. Particularly, with the advantage of being compatible with Si integrated circuits, Silicon nanowires (SiNWs) and germanium quantum dots (GeQDs) have been extensively studied in the past few decades. In order to explore novel physical properties, the integration of SiNWs and GeQDs has attracted great attention recently. In this paper, recent researches on the preparation methods and structures of SiNWs, GeQDs and their composites are reviewed, respectively. The synthesis of SiNWs with random distribution and ordered arrays by using vapor–liquid–solid growth mechanism and metal-assisted chemical etching technique is firstly summarized. Some special structures of SiNWs are also discussed. Furthermore, the development of some novel structures of GeQDs for further improving their optical properties is reviewed. Finally, the growth mechanism and structure evolution of SiNWs/GeQDs composites are illustrated from the view of theory and experiment. The strain inGe shell layers and SiNWs, the relationship between Ge growth mode and SiNW diameter, and the distribution of GeQDs on the radial and axial directions of SiNWs are discussed in detail. The research about the growth of SiNWs/GeQDs composite structures is in its early stage, so there are many questions that need to be resolved in future.

A lower cost method of preparing corn stover for Irpex lacteus treatment by ensiling with lactic acid bacteria

        Zuo Sasa,Jiang Di,Niu Dongze,Zheng Mingli,Tao Ya,Xu Chuncheng 아세아·태평양축산학회 2020 Animal Bioscience Vol.33 No.8

Objective: This study investigated a method of preparing corn stover for Irpex lacteus (I. lacteus) treatment to improve its in vitro rumen degradability under non-sterile conditions. Methods: Corn stover was inoculated with Lactobacillus plantarum (L. plantarum), Lactobacillus buchneri (L. buchneri), and an equal mixture of these strains, and ensiled for 0, 3, 7, 14, and 28 days. After each period, a portion of the silage was sampled to assess the silage quality, and another portion of the silage was further treated with I. lacteus at 28°C for 28 d. All the samples were analyzed for fermentation quality, chemical composition, and in vitro gas production (IVGP) as a measure of rumen fermentation capacity. Results: Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) was found to improve the silage quality of the corn stover, and the corn stover silage inoculated with L. plantarum produced more lactic acid and higher IVGP than other silage groups. The I. lacteus colonies flourished in the early stage of corn stover silage, especially on the 3-d corn stover silage inoculated with both L. plantarum and L. buchneri. This led to an 18% decrease in the acid detergent lignin content, and a 49.6% increase in IVGP compared with the raw stover. Conclusion: The combination of ensiling with the mixed LAB inoculation and I. lacteus treatment provided a cost-effective method for the improvement of the IVGP of corn stover from 164.8 mL/g organic matter (OM) to 246.6 mL/g OM.

Effects of microbial enzymes on starch and hemicellulose degradation in total mixed ration silages

        Ning, Tingting,Wang, Huili,Zheng, Mingli,Niu, Dongze,Zuo, Sasa,Xu, Chuncheng Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2017 Animal Bioscience Vol.30 No.2

Objective: This study investigated the association of enzyme-producing microbes and their enzymes with starch and hemicellulose degradation during fermentation of total mixed ration (TMR) silage. Methods: The TMRs were prepared with soybean curd residue, alfalfa hay (ATMR) or Leymus chinensis hay (LTMR), corn meal, soybean meal, vitamin-mineral supplements, and salt at a ratio of 25:40:30:4:0.5:0.5 on a dry matter basis. Laboratory-scale bag silos were randomly opened after 1, 3, 7, 14, 28, and 56 days of ensiling and subjected to analyses of fermentation quality, carbohydrates loss, microbial amylase and hemicellulase activities, succession of dominant amylolytic or hemicellulolytic microbes, and their microbial and enzymatic properties. Results: Both ATMR and LTMR silages were well preserved, with low pH and high lactic acid concentrations. In addition to the substantial loss of water soluble carbohydrates, loss of starch and hemicellulose was also observed in both TMR silages with prolonged ensiling. The microbial amylase activity remained detectable throughout the ensiling in both TMR silages, whereas the microbial hemicellulase activity progressively decreased until it was inactive at day 14 post-ensiling in both TMR silages. During the early stage of fermentation, the main amylase-producing microbes were Bacillus amyloliquefaciens (B. amyloliquefaciens), B. cereus, B. licheniformis, and B. subtilis in ATMR silage and B. flexus, B. licheniformis, and Paenibacillus xylanexedens (P. xylanexedens) in LTMR silage, whereas Enterococcus faecium was closely associated with starch hydrolysis at the later stage of fermentation in both TMR silages. B. amyloliquefaciens, B. licheniformis, and B. subtilis and B. licheniformis, B. pumilus, and P. xylanexedens were the main source of microbial hemicellulase during the early stage of fermentation in ATMR and LTMR silages, respectively. Conclusion: The microbial amylase contributes to starch hydrolysis during the ensiling process in both TMR silages, whereas the microbial hemicellulase participates in the hemicellulose degradation only at the early stage of ensiling.

Elasto-plastic time history analysis of an asymmetrical twin-tower rigid-connected structure

        Xiaohan Wu,Yanfei Sun,Mingzhuo Rui,Min Yan,Lishu Li,Dongze Liu 사단법인 한국계산역학회 2013 Computers and Concrete, An International Journal Vol.12 No.2

The structure analyzed in this paper has particular building style and special structural system. It is a rigid-connected twin-tower skyscraper with asymmetrical distribution of stiffness and masses in two towers. Because of the different stiffness between the north and the south towers, the torsion seismic vibration is significant. In this paper, in order to study the seismic response of the structure under both frequent low-intensity earthquakes as well as rare earthquakes at the levels of intensity 7, the analysis model is built and analyzed with NosaCAD. NosaCAD is an nonlinear structure analysis software based on second-development of AutoCAD with ObjectARX. It has convenient modeling function, high computational efficiency and diversity post-processing functions. The deformations, forces and damages of the structure are investigated based on the analysis. According to the analysis, there is no damage on the structure under frequent earthquakes, and the structure has sufficient capacity and ductility to resist rare earthquakes. Therefore the structure can reach the goal of no damage under frequent earthquakes and no collapse under rare earthquakes. The deformation of the structure is below the limit in Chinese code. The time sequence and distribution of damages on tubes are reasonable, which can dissipate some dynamic energy. At last, according to forces, load-carrying capacity and damage of elements, there are some suggestions on increasing the reinforcement in the core tube at base and in stiffened stories.
