        A Hydrogel-based First-Aid Tissue Adhesive with Effective Hemostasis and Anti-bacteria for Trauma Emergency Management

        Background Clinical tissue adhesives remain some critical drawbacks for managing emergency injuries, such as inadequate adhesive strength and insufficient anti-infection ability. Herein, a novel, self-healing, and antibacterial carboxymethyl chitosan/polyaldehyde dextran (CMCS/PD) hydrogel is designed as the first-aid tissue adhesive for effective trauma emergency management. Methods We examined the gel-forming time, porosity, self-healing, antibacterial properties, cytotoxicity, adhesive strength, and hemocompatibility. Liver hemorrhage, tail severance, and skin wound infection models of rats are constructed in vivo, respectively. Results Results demonstrate that the CMCS/PD hydrogel has the rapid gel-forming (~ 5 s), good self-healing, and effective antibacterial abilities, and could adhere to tissue firmly (adhesive strength of ~ 10 kPa and burst pressure of 327.5 mmHg) with excellent hemocompatibility and cytocompatibility. This suggests the great prospect of CMCS/ PD hydrogel in acting as a first-aid tissue adhesive for trauma emergency management. The CMCS/PD hydrogel is observed to not only achieve rapid hemostasis for curing liver hemorrhage and tail severance in comparison to commercial hemostatic gel (Surgiflo ®) but also exhibit superior anti-infection for treating acute skin trauma compared with clinical disinfectant gel (Prontosan ®). Conclusions Overall, the CMCS/PD hydrogel offers a promising candidate for first-aid tissue adhesives to manage the trauma emergency. Because of the rapid gel-forming time, it could also be applied as a liquid first-aid bandage for mini-invasive surgical treatment.

        Simplified Analytical Model for Investigating the Output Power of Solar Array on Stratospheric Airship

        Solar energy is the ideal power choice for long-endurance stratospheric airships. The output performance of solar array on stratospheric airship is affected by several major factors: flying latitude, flight date, airship's attitude and the temperature of solar cell, but the research on the effect of these factors on output performance is rare. This paper establishes a new simplified analytical model with thermal effects to analyze the output performance of the solar array. This model consisting of the geometric model of stratospheric airship, solar radiation model and incident solar radiation model is developed using MATLAB computer program. Based on this model, the effects of the major factors on the output performance of the solar array are investigated expediently and easily. In the course of the research, the output power of solar array is calculated for five airship's latitudes of $0^{\circ}$, $15^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$, four special dates and different attitudes of five pitch angles and four yaw angles. The effect of these factors on output performance is discussed in detail. The results are helpful for solving the energy problem of the long endurance airship and planning the airline.

        In situ synthesis of “brick and mortar”-type lignin-derived carbon/TiO2 composite with a remarkable photocatalytic performance

        Alkali lignin (AL), an industrial waste from pulping black liquor, is mainly applied as a low-gradecombustible energy source. Design and preparation of high value-added materials with AL is still achallenge. In this work, wefirstly introduced ammonium group into AL and prepared quaternized alkalilignin (QAL) for improving the solubility in acidic aqueous solution. Then a facile sol–gel andcarbonization process was developed to fabricate lignin-derived carbon/TiO2 (LC/TiO2) compositephotocatalyst using QAL as the carbon precursor. The microstructural characteristics and optical propertyof the LC/TiO2 composite were systematically characterized. Composite exhibited a “brick (TiO2nanoparticles) and mortar (LC)”-type construction, and TiO2 nanoparticles were coated with LC. Theintroduction of LC endowed TiO2 with extended photoabsorption region and enhanced separation ofphoto-generated charge carriers. LC/TiO2 obtained at a carbonization temperature of 650 C presentedthe highest photocatalytic activity for the degradation of organic dye, which was about 3.4 times that ofbare TiO2. Moreover, LC/TiO2 also presented good recyclability. This facile strategy not only offers greatopportunities for the high value-added application of industrial lignin, but also promotes the practicalapplication of TiO2 photocatalyst.

        Influences of aggregation behavior of lignin on the microstructure and adsorptive properties of lignin-derived porous carbons by potassium compound activation

        In this work, lignin-derived porous carbon was prepared using alkali lignin (AL) or lignosulfonic acid (LS)as a precursor to reveal the activation effects of potassium compound (KHCO3, K2CO3 and KOH) ontechnical lignin with different degree of aggregation. Quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation andatomic force microscope testing results showed that KHCO3 had the best activation effect on AL having ahighly aggregated and dense microstructure, thanks to the expansion effect from KHCO3. LS has a highlydispersed and loose microstructure, and KOH had the best activation effect on LS. This is because thestabilizing effect from KOH could avoid excessive destruction of pore structure during carbonization andactivation process. Therefore, the specific surface area of AL-derived porous carbon obtained with KHCO3and LS-derived porous carbon obtained with KOH could reach 2084 and 2770 m2 g 1, while theabsorption capacity could reach 701 and 870 mg g 1 for sulfamethazine respectively. Our result providesa theoretical base for preparing high quality lignin-derived porous carbon adsorbent with different kindsof technical lignin

        Antioxidant and hepatoprotective activity of kaempferol 3-O-b-D- (2,6-di-O-a-L-rhamnopyranosyl)galactopyronoside against carbon tetrachloride-induced liver injury in mice

        This study aims to investigate the antioxidant and hepatoprotective effects of kaempferol 3-O-b-D- (2,6- di-O-a-L-rhamnopyranosyl)galactopyronoside (KG) isolated from unripe soybean leaves. Carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced hepatotoxic ddY mice were used in the study. The mice were divided into three groups, namely the control group, the CCl4 group (CCl4, CCl4 injected), and the KG group (KG, CCl4 injected with KG administration). Hepatic injury markers of serum and liver were analyzed. The results show that serum ALT, AST activities, hepatic glutathione, superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase activities were normalized in mice pretreated with KG. Furthermore, the liver thiobarbituric acid reactive substances levels were found to be improved by pretreatment with KG, indicating that KG is available to alleviate liver injury, this may be due to its antioxidant properties. This study suggests that unripe soy leaves could be used as functional food materials.

        Effects of different starter cultures on the quality characteristics and shelf-life of fermented rice cake

        The effects of Makgeolli, dry yeast (DY), sourdoughwith dry yeast (SDDY) and sourdough with Makgeolli(SDMG) on the quality of fermented rice cakes(FRCs) stored at 23 C for 3 days were determined. Theacidity of SDDY and SDMG significantly increased withincreasing fermentation time. The FRCs supplementedwith sourdough had slightly higher moisture contents thanothers. The addition of DY and SDDY increased thespecific volume of the FRC, in which its texture was softer. The addition of DY and sourdoughs significantly decreasedthe firming rate of crumb and improved the sensory qualities. The sourdoughs retarded amylopectin retrogradation,indicating their anti-staling effect on the FRC. Comparedto the control, the shelf-lives of FRCs made with DY andSDDY were extended by 0.7 and 0.5 days based on theinstrumental hardness, respectively. DY and SDDY effectivelyimproved the appearance and texture of FRC andextended its shelf-life.

        감성적 만족이 AI 스피커의 지속사용의도에 미치는 영향 : 한국과 중국 간의 비교 연구

        스마트 홈, 커넥티드 카, 스마트 웨어러블 등 다양한 스마트 기기와 서비스들에 음성 AI 기술의 접목이 왕성히 이루어지고 있다. AI 스피커는 대표적인 음성인식서비스 플랫폼으로서 높은 관심에 비해 그간 AI 스피커의 초기 수용에 관한 연구들로 집중되어 왔으며 지속사용에 관한 학술적 연구는 부족한 상황이다. 이에 따라, 본 연구의 목적은 AI 스피커의 지속사용모델을 개발하고 AI 스피커의 지속사용모델이 국가 간에 차이가 있는지를 검증하고자 하였다. 한국과 중국의 AI 스피커 실이용자 대상으로 온라인 서베이를 진행하여 총 523부(한국 255부, 중국 268부)를 수집하였고 AMOS를 활용한 SEM 분석을 통해 가설 검증을 하였다. 분석 결과, 첫째, AI 스피커 대한 지각된 용이성이 높을수록 지각된 유용성이 높았고 지각된 용이성과 유용성이 높을수록 감성적 만족이 높아진다는 것을 확인하였다. 둘째, AI 스피커 대한 감성적 만족이 높을수록 지속사용의도가 높아짐을 확인하였다. 반면, 가설과 달리, AI 스피커 대한 지각된 유용성이 지속사용의도에 영향을 미치지 않았다. 마지막으로, AI 스피커에 대한 감성적 만족이 지속사용의도에 미치는 영향이 비교문화 간 차이가 있는지를 검증한 결과, 한국과 중국간에 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 없었다. 본 연구의 의의는 첫째, AI 스피커 맥락에서 기술수용모델의 중요 요인인 지각된 용이성, 지각된 유용성과 감성적 만족과 지속사용의도 간의 관계를 규명하였다는 점이다. 둘째, 지속사용의도에 영향을 미치는 중요 요인으로 감성적 만족을 보고하였다는 점이다. 셋째, 지속사용모델 내 감정적 반응과 행동적 반응 간에 통계적으로 유의미한 국가 간 차이가 존재하지 않는다는 결과를 보고하였는데 이는 AI 스피커와 같은 혁신 서비스들의 지속사용 맥락에서 글로벌 공통적으로 유사한 사용자의 지속사용 행동을 보이는 것으로 해석된다. Voice AI technology is being actively applied to various smart devices and services such as smart homes, connected cars, and smart wearables. Despite high interest on AI speaker, most of the studies about AI speaker are on initial acceptance and academic research on continuous use is still insufficient. Accordingly, the purpose of this study was to develop an AI speaker sustained use model and to verify whether the AI speaker sustained use model differs between countries. A total of 523 copies were collected by conducting an online survey targeting actual users of AI speakers in Korea and China. As a result, first, it was confirmed that the higher the perceived ease of use of the AI speaker, the higher the perceived usefulness, and the higher the perceived ease and usefulness, the higher the emotional satisfaction. Second, it was confirmed that the higher the emotional satisfaction of the AI speaker, the higher the intention to continue to use. On the other hand, the perceived usefulness did not affect the intention to continue to use. Lastly, between Korea and China, there was no statistically significant difference of the effect of emotional satisfaction with AI speakers on intention to continue use. The significance of this study is that, first, in the context of AI speakers, the relationship between perceived ease and perceived usefulness, and emotional satisfaction and continued use intention was investigated. Second, emotional satisfaction was reported as an important factor influencing intention to continue use. Third, the results in which there is no statistically significant difference between the emotional and behavioral responses in the sustained use model are interpreted as having similar user responses in common globally.
