<P>Prospective solid adsorbents for CO2 capture require low total regeneration energy that can be achieved by combining high working capacity, a low desorption temperature, and a narrow temperature difference (Δ<I>T</I>) between capture and regeneration. These materials should be critically water-stable because flue gas from coal-fired power plants contains water vapor. Herein, we present the development of a diamine-appended metal-organic framework (MOF) adsorbent that showed unprecedented performance with a record narrow Δ<I>T</I> (30 °C), a quite low regeneration temperature (≤100 °C), and a significant working capacity (14 wt%) over 600 cycles. Remarkably, coating of the MOF with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) imparted enhanced moisture stability and superior CO2 adsorption capacity. Such a simple coating approach can be used to design humidity-stable MOF adsorbents, with exceptional performance, applicable in real-world CO2 capture processes.</P>

본 연구에서는 현재 알려진 주요한 회전기기인 IPM 전동기, SPM 전동기, 권선형동기 전동기, reluctance형 동기 전동기, 유도 전동기, flux switching 전동기, flux reversal 전동기, SRM, 1 권선 2중 공극 버니어 전동기, 2권선 2중 공극 버니어 전동기 10종류에 대해서 같은 조건에서 발생 가능한 힘밀도 F<SUB>td</SUB>를 2차원 유한요소법으로 계산하였다. 고출력이 가능한 2 권선 2중 공극 버니어 전동기를 제작, 시험평가 결과를 제시하고자 한다. 또한 유체부하에서 상반회전 프로펠러 (contra –rotating propeller, CRP)는 유체 추진시 cavitation을 줄여 효율을 현저히 향상시킬수 있다. CRP를 외전형 및 내전형 전동기 결합시 다양한 초고효율-초고출력 추진기를 제안하고자 한다.
The Future of Quantum Information: Challenges and Vision

Quantum information has passed the theoretical research period and has entered the realization step for its application to the information and communications technology (ICT) sector. Currently, quantum information has the advantage of being safer and faster than conventional digital computers. Thus, a lot of research is being done. The amount of big data that one needs to deal with is expected to grow exponentially. It is also a new business model that can change the landscape of the existing computing. Just as the IT sector has faced many challenges in the past, we need to be prepared for change brought about by Quantum. We would like to look at studies on quantum communication, quantum sensing, and quantum computing based on quantum information and see the technology levels of each country and company. Based on this, we present the vision and challenge for quantum information in the future. Our work is significant since the time for first-time study challengers is reduced by discussing the fundamentals of quantum information and summarizing the current situation.
Diagnosis of Acute Leukemia from Oral Manifestation

Leukemia is a hematological malignant disease with various clinical symptoms. Due to the fatal nature of the disease, early detection is important. Oral manifestations include ulcers and gingival enlargement with bleeding. Moreover, myeloid sarcoma or opportunistic infections may also occur. This report introduces a 31-year-old male presenting with generalized gingival enlargement with bleeding and another 81-year-old female with neoplasm on the left retromolar area. Both were diagnosed as acute monocytic leukemia. These cases implicate that gingival enlargement or mucosal lesion in the oral cavity may represent underlying systemic diseases. Related to this, it has to be reminded that making timely diagnosis and referral according to the clinical findings is crucial.

<P>We improved the characteristics of 4H-SiC Schottky barrier diodes (SBDs) by post-oxidation annealing in nitric oxide ambient (NO POA). Unlike the sacrificial oxidized SBDs, the SBDs with added NO POA exhibited highly uniform Schottky barrier height and nearly ideal breakdown voltage of 1990 V. Time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectroscopy revealed nitrogen pileup at the sacrificially oxidized SiC surface after NO POA. We believe that NO POA electrically passivated the detrimental residual carbon at the SiC surface by forming C-N bonds, improving the performance of the SBDs.</P>

<P>Vaccinia-related kinases (VRKs) are multifaceted serine/threonine kinases that play essential roles in various aspects of cell signaling, cell cycle progression, apoptosis, and neuronal development and differentiation. However, the neuronal function of <I>VRK3</I> is still unknown despite its etiological potential in human autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Here, we report that <I>VRK3</I>-deficient mice exhibit typical symptoms of autism-like behavior, including hyperactivity, stereotyped behaviors, reduced social interaction, and impaired context-dependent spatial memory. A significant decrease in dendritic spine number and arborization were identified in the hippocampus CA1 of <I>VRK3</I>-deficient mice. These mice also exhibited a reduced rectification of AMPA receptor–mediated current and changes in expression of synaptic and signaling proteins, including tyrosine receptor kinase B (TrkB), Arc, and CaMKIIα. Notably, TrkB stimulation with 7,8-dihydroxyflavone reversed the altered synaptic structure and function and successfully restored autism-like behavior in <I>VRK3</I>-deficient mice. These results reveal that <I>VRK3</I> plays a critical role in neurodevelopmental disorders and suggest a potential therapeutic strategy for ASD.</P>

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a most common joint degenerative disease in the elderly population is closely related to metabolic disorders. However, it is still unclear whether high fat and sucrose (HFHS), contributing to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), would exacerbate pathology of OA. To investigate the impact of HFHS on OA, C57BL/6 male mice were divided into three groups: i) low-fat (LF, 10% kcal fat), ii) high-fat diet (HF, 60% kcal fat), or iii) HF with high sucrose as a drink (HFHS, 20%) for 12 weeks and OA was induced by surgical destabilization of the medial meniscus (DMM). With expect, most of the metabolic parameters were deteriorated by HFHS+DMM compared to the LF+DMM group. HFHS induced severe cartilage erosion with osteophyte development and subchondral bone plate thickening, which indicated HFHS diet exacerbated OA. These severities of OA were followed by elevated serum/hepatic cholesterol levels and hepatic inflammation in the HFHS+DMM group, compared to the LF+DMM group. However, adipocyte remodeling did not alter by HFHS. These findings indicated excessive consumption of the HFHS triggered hepatic inflammation in NAFLD, which contributes to OA’s progression.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Introduction</B></P> <P>The purpose of this retrospective study was to evaluate and compare the outcome of endodontic micro-resurgery with that of primary endodontic microsurgery and determine prognostic factors affecting the outcome of micro-resurgery.</P> <P><B>Methods</B></P> <P>A clinical database was searched for endodontic microsurgery cases between 2001 and 2016. Nearest neighbor 2:1 propensity score matching for the following 5 variables was performed for cases of primary microsurgery and those of micro-resurgery: age, sex, tooth type, lesion type, and postoperative restoration. For the matched cases, the outcome was categorized as success or failure according to clinical and radiographic evaluations performed at least 1 year after surgery. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and log-rank tests were performed to compare the outcome of primary microsurgery with that of micro-resurgery over time. For the micro-resurgery group, multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression analysis was performed to identify prognostic factors and estimate their effects.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>In total, 571 cases of endodontic microsurgery (498 primary microsurgery and 73 micro-resurgery cases) were identified, and 146 cases of primary microsurgery were matched to 73 cases of micro-resurgery through 2:1 propensity score matching. After matching, all covariates demonstrated an absolute standardized difference of <0.1. The estimated 5-year success rates were 91.6% and 87.6% for primary microsurgery and micro-resurgery, respectively (<I>P</I> = .594). The tooth type was found to be the only contributing factor for the outcome of micro-resurgery, with molars showing a higher probability of failure than anterior teeth (hazard ratio, 8.53; <I>P</I> = .002).</P> <P><B>Conclusions</B></P> <P>Within the limitations, the findings of this study suggest that the outcome of endodontic micro-resurgery is comparable with that of primary endodontic microsurgery.</P>
