Aluminum films were prepared on H₂-plasma pretreated TiN substrates at deposition temperatures of 60-250℃ by metallorganic chemical vapor deposition using dimethylethylamine alane as a precursor. The films were highly pure and the growth rates were 3-50 nm/min, where the lowest deposition temperature was 60℃. The resistivity was as low as 2.8 μΩcm. High substrate temperatures tended to favor a low resistivity and smooth surface morphology of the films, compared to films with a ow temperature at a given thickness. Numerous empty pores appeared in the A1 films deposited at a temperature below 150℃ when the film thickness exceeded 200 nm. The number of these pores tended to increase with decrease in temperature. However, in films deposited at temperatures above 200, there were no pores and the large grains were interconnected to a high degree. Higher deposition temperatures yielded a greater preference of the (111) orientation of Al films.

Two signaling pathways, the extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK)/mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK)-dependent pathway and the nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB)-dependent pathway, have been known to mediate megakaryocytic differentiation of K562 cells induced by phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA). In this study, we examined whether 90-kDa ribosomal S6 kinase (RSK), known as a substrate of ERK/MAPK and a signal-inducible IκBα kinase, would link two pathways during the differentiation. RSK_1 was ctivated in a time- and dose-dependent manner during the PMA-induced differentiation. Overexpression of wild-type or dominant inhibitory mutant (D205N) of RSK_1 enhanced or suppressed PMA-stimulated NF-κB activation and megakaryocytic differentiation as shown by expression of the CD41 megakaryocytic marker, respectively. In addition, overexpression of the dominant inhibitory mutant (S32A/S36A) of IκBα inhibited PMA-stimulated and RSK1-enhanced megakaryocytic differentiation downstream of RSK1. PMA-stimulated activation of ERK/MAPK, RSK1, and NF-κB and the PMA-induced megakaryocytic differentiation were prevented by pretreatment with PD98059, a specific inhibitor of the mitogen-activated ERK kinase (MEK). Therefore, these results demonstrate that the sequential ERK/RSK1/NF-κB pathway mediates PMA-stimulated megakaryocytic differentiation of k562 cells.

Background Various shapes and designs of the gluteal artery perforator flap have been used for treating sacral pressure sores and reconstructing breasts. To establish the ideal fasciocutaneous flap design for use in the gluteal area, the soft tissue thickness distribution was measured. Methods Twenty-one buttocks of adult Korean cadavers were analyzed through rectangular subfascial dissection. Each buttock was divided horizontally into 10 sections and vertically into 10 sections, and then, the thickness at the corners of the sections was measured. For the sake of comparison and statistical verification with living bodies, computed tomography (CT) images of 120 buttocks of patients were randomly selected. Five horizontal sections and 4 vertical sections were made, and the thickness at each corner was recorded. Results According to the dissection and the CT images, the area with the thinnest soft tissues in the buttock was around the posterior superior iliac spine, close to the sacral area. The thickest area was the superolateral area of the buttock, which was 3.24 times and 2.15 times thicker than the thinnest area in the studies on cadaver anatomy and the CT images, respectively. Conclusions The thickness of the soft tissues in the buttocks differed by area. The superolateral area had the thickest soft tissues, and the superomedial area had the thinnest. This study includes information on the distribution of the thickness of the gluteal soft tissues of Koreans. The outcome of this study may contribute to the design of effective local flaps for pressure sore reconstruction and free flaps for breast reconstruction.

Background: The association between endovascular treatment (EVT) case volume per hospital and clinical outcomes has been reported, but the exact volume threshold has not been determined. This study aimed to examine the case volume threshold in this context. Methods: National audit data on the quality of acute stroke care in patients admitted via emergency department, within 7 days of onset, in hospitals that treated ≥ 10 stroke cases during the audit period were analyzed. Ischemic stroke cases treated with EVT during the last three audits (2013, 2014, and 2016) were selected for the analysis. Annual EVT case volume per hospital was estimated and analyzed as a continuous and a categorical variable (in quartiles). The primary outcome measure was 1-year mortality as a surrogate of 3-month functional outcome. As post-hoc sensitivity analysis, replication of the study results was examined using the 2018 audit data. Results: We analyzed 1,746 ischemic stroke cases treated with EVT in 120 acute care hospitals. The median annual EVT case volume was 12.0 cases per hospital, and mortality rates at 1 month, 3 months, and 1 year were 12.7%, 16.6%, and 23.3%, respectively. Q3 and Q4 had 33% lower odds of 1-year mortality than Q1. Adjustments were made for predetermined confounders. Annual EVT case volume cut-off value for 1-year mortality was 15 cases per year (P < 0.02). The same cut-off value was replicated in the sensitivity analysis. Conclusion: Annual EVT case volume was associated with 1-year mortality. The volume threshold per hospital was 15 cases per year.

Background: Although atrial fibrillation (AF)-associated acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is on the rise, is devastating, and life-threatening, there is limited data on the clinical course and in-hospital mortality of patients treated in the intensive care unit (ICU). This study aimed to describe the clinical course and factors associated with in-hospital mortality in AF-associated AIS patients admitted to the ICU.Methods: This study was a retrospective analysis of a prospective nationwide multicenter cohort including non-valvular AF-AIS patients receiving ICU care admitted to 14 stroke centers in South Korea from 2017 to 2020. In-hospital outcomes, including in-hospital mortality and neurological deterioration (ND) have been described.Result: Amongst 2,487 AF-associated AIS patients, 259 (10.4%) were treated in the ICU. In-hospital mortality and ND occurred in 8.5% and 17.0% of the patients, respectively. Higher rates of initial National Institute for Health Stroke Scale scores, symptomatic steno-occlusive lesions, and CHA2DS2-VASc (Congestive Heart Failure, Hypertension, Age ≥75 [Doubled], Diabetes Mellitus, Prior Stroke or Transient Ischemic Attack [Doubled], Vascular Disease, Age 65–74, Female) scores were found in those with in-hospital mortality. The CHA2DS2-VASc score after admission increased the risk of in-hospital mortality (odds ratio [OR], 1.48; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.00–2.18) were associated with in-hospital mortality. Antithrombotic use within 48 hours was related to decreased in-hospital mortality (OR, 0.26; 95% CI, 0.10–0.67).Conclusion: ICU care in AF-associated AIS is common, and the establishment of optimal treatment strategies in the ICU may be needed.

We present an ecient technique for the formation of silicon quantum dots (Si QDs) by exposing a Nd: YAG laser (wavelength = 355 nm) onto amorphous Si lm. Primary emphasis is placed on the simple and direct fabrication of the Si QDs without performing any micro or nano-patterning process. The scanned laser irradiation of low power causes localized segregation of as-deposited lm by the laser-induced heat, resulting in the fabrication of Si QDs. Observations in scanning electron microscope and atomic force microscope system clearly conrm highly uniform and controllable nanoscale Si QDs in our case. The average size and density of the Si QDs were about 4 nm and 1.5 1012/cm2, respectively. In addition, optical and electrical properties of the Si QDs were investigated by photoluminescence and C-V measurements. The experimental results suggest that our new process can lead to very stable optical and electrical devices, with well controllable and reproducible Si QDs.
