Contact electrification behaviors of micro-patterned polydimethylsiloxane
Jin Da Woon,Lee Dong Woo,Ko Young Joon,Jung Jong Hoon 한국물리학회 2021 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.79 No.1
We have investigated the contact electrification mechanism of identical materials using micro-patterned polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) polymers. Commercially available sandpapers with various grit sizes were used for systematic control of the micro-patterns. Microstructure and hardness measurements revealed that the micro-patterns of sandpaper were successfully transferred to PDMS without significant change of the Young’s modulus. Clear triboelectric outputs were observed when contact separation was performed for identical PDMS polymers. The triboelectric outputs were significant when the microstructure was different, while the outputs were small when the microstructure was similar. These results were explained by the bond-breaking and ion/material transfer due to the roughness-induced temperature differences in identical PDMS polymers.

The baculovirus-insect cell system is considered a feasible expression system for recombinant glycoprotein production due to its several advantages, including high capacity, flexibility, and glycosylation capability. However, accurate titering of the recombinant baculovirus is required to ensure high expression in insect cells using a commercial and expensive immunoassay titer kit in which the envelope glycoprotein of the Autographa californica multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (AcMNPV)-type baculovirus is detected by anti-envelope glycoprotein antibody and a secondary antibody conjugated to horseradish peroxidase (HRP). In this study, conditions for the expression of the CO17-1A immunotherapeutic monoclonal antibody (MAb) against colorectal cancer cells in a baculovirus system were optimized without using a commercial titering kit. Several variables were investigated to optimize antibody expression in a baculovirus-insect cell system, including baculovirus passage, volume of the infecting baculovirus inoculum (100, 200, 400, and 800?μL), and the harvest time of insect cells or cell supernatants after virus infection (24, 48, and 72?h). Two different pFastBac vectors carrying the CO17-1A MAb genes with or without the KDEL endoplasmic reticulum (ER) retention motif (Lys-Asp-Glu-Leu) fused to the HC (MAb CO17-1A K and MAb CO17-1A, respectively) were constructed and used to generate baculoviruses. Immunoblot analysis was conducted to confirm expression of MAb CO17-1A K and MAb CO17-1A in baculovirus-infected insect cells. Densitometry analysis of the protein bands was used to quantify the relative expression under different conditions. The highest expression was observed in lysed cells infected with 400?μL of passage 3 baculovirus (P(3) BV) carrying the gene encoding the CO17-1A MAb without KDEL at 72?h after virus infection. These results suggest that the infection conditions, the number of virus passages, baculovirus inoculum volume, and the harvest time can be modified to optimize MAb expression without using a BaculoELISA titer kit in a baculovirus-insect cell system.

Objectives:The purpose of this study is to evaluate the preliminary effects of school-based short term mental health awareness and school bullying prevention programs. Methods:From April to December 2013, the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Promotion team of Seoul National Hospital conducted school-based short term social skill training (N=56, 4 sessions), mental health awareness (N=84, 4 sessions) and school bullying prevention programs (N=171, 1 session) in elementary and junior high schools located in Seoul. The changes in the subjects before and after the program were assessed. Results:The a social skills training program improved the ‘helping’ behaviors in boys (t=-2.355, p<.05) and ‘sharing’ (t=-3.223, p<.01), ‘cooperation’ (t=-2.235, p<.05), and ‘comforting’ (t=-2.830, p<.01) behaviors in girls, assessed using the Prosocial Behavior Questionnaire. The mental health awareness program improved ‘general health awareness’ (t=2.620, p<.05), measured using the Korean General Health Questionnaire. The school bullying prevention program resulted in decreased ‘self esteem’ (t=3.769, p<.01), measured using the Self Esteem Scale and decreased ‘anger’ (t=4.198, p<.01), assessed using the Novaco Anger Scale. Conclusion:The results of our preliminary analysis suggest that school-based mental health awareness and school bullying prevention programs may be effective even when conducted for a short term. Future investigation is necessary in order to validate the long term effects of these programs.
Comparison of robotic and laparoscopic lateral transperitoneal adrenalectomies
Seung Yeon Ko,Young Woo Chang,Dohoe Ku,Da Young Yu,Hye Yoon Lee,Woong Bae Ji,Gil Soo Son 대한외과학회 2023 Annals of Surgical Treatment and Research(ASRT) Vol.105 No.2
Purpose: This study aimed to compare the intraoperative and postoperative outcomes between robotic and laparoscopic transperitoneal adrenalectomies. Methods: In this retrospective study, 93 patients underwent adrenalectomy using 2 surgical modalities: 45 patients underwent adrenalectomy using the da Vinci Xi system (robotic group), and 48 patients using laparoscopic devices (laparoscopic group). We compared the operation time, intraoperative bleeding, and hospital stay according to the surgical modality and tumor characteristics. Results: There were no significant differences in the operative time (P = 0.827), hospital stay (P = 0.177), and intraoperative bleeding (P = 0.174) between the groups. However, the robotic group showed a lower coefficient of variation in total operative time than that of the laparoscopic group (100.6 ± 23.3 minutes vs. 101.9±32.7 minutes, 0.230 vs. 0.321). When divided into 2 subgroups based on the tumor size (<3 cm and ≥3 cm), the robotic group with a tumor sized >3 cm had a shorter operative time than that of the laparoscopic group (P = 0.032). The robotic group also had fewer cases of intraoperative bleeding (P = 0.034). Conclusions: Compared to the laparoscopic transperitoneal adrenalectomy, the robotic one achieved a lower deviation in total operative time and showed less bleeding and a shorter operative time, especially for tumors sized >3 cm.
