Cervical pessary for preterm twin pregnancy in women with a short cervix

( Da Un Jung ),( Min Jung Choi ),( Sun Young Jung ),( Suk Young Kim ) 대한산부인과학회 2020 Obstetrics & Gynecology Science Vol.63 No.3

Objective We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of cervical pessary for extending twin pregnancy in women with a short cervix. Methods Between January 2014 and March 2019, the use of a cervical pessary for twin pregnancy in women with a cervical length of ≤15 mm was investigated between 16 and 28 weeks of gestation. We included women with a shortened cervix after a cerclage procedure and visible fetal membranes and cervical dilatation. Thirteen patients underwent pessary insertion and were matched with a control group of 15 patients. Pregnancy and neonatal outcomes were compared between the groups. We excluded women with major fetal anomalies discovered before or after birth and known placenta previa. Results Women who underwent pessary insertion were diagnosed with a short cervix (0.65±0.47 vs. 0.66±0.51 cm in the pessary and control groups, respectively; P=0.957) at a gestational age similar to that of the controls (23.29 vs. 25.14 weeks, P=0.294). There was no significant difference in gestational age at delivery between them (33.29 vs. 27.29 weeks in the pessary and control groups, respectively, P=0.058). The pessary group had a longer interval between the diagnosis and delivery than the control group (60.7±28.3 vs. 22.6±24.5 days, P=0.001). The number of adverse neonatal outcomes was significantly lower in the pessary group (n=7; 28.0%) than in the control group (n=14; 58.3%; P=0.032). Conclusion The use of a cervical pessary may prolong gestation in twin pregnancies in women with an extremely short cervix until viable gestational age.

      • Jean Rhys's Wide Sargasso Sea

Jung, Da-Un Ewha Institute of English and American Studies 2005 Journal of English and American studies Vol.4 No.-

This paper tries to retrace how Jean Rhys undercut the black native woman Christophine to make the Creole protagonist Antoinette conspicuous in her well-known post-colonialist novel Wide Sargasso Sea. In so doing, this paper adopts post-colonialist theories presented by the two representative post-colonialist feminists Gayatri Spivak and Firdous Azim. Spivak points out that Rhys sacrifices the black native charavter Christophine to reveal Creolean suffering under the colonial setting of the West Indies. Azim reinvestigates the nineteenth century English novel from post-colonial perspectives taking into account differences between gender, class and race. Jean Rhys' narrative techniques are being criticized for their narrowness of taking advantage of blackness to emphasize double identity of white Creoles in the West Indies. While Rhys discloses complicate racial strata in describing heightened tension between different races and classes, she fails to sustain distinct character of the black nurse Christophine and the black community. By failing to fully represent the blackness, Wide Sargasso Sea has a fatal flaw as a representative post-colonialist novel.

      • A new interface using image-based foot tracking for motion sensing devices

        Da-Un Jung,Yong-In Yun,Jong-Soo Choi IEEE 2012 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON CONSUMER ELECTRONICS - Vol.58 No.3

Foot interfacing has applications in games that require foot manipulation control using motion sensing devices. However, when part of a foot overlaps itself (selfocclusion), is out of the line of sight of the infrared sensor and it is then difficult to accurately capture foot pose. To overcome this problem, we propose a real-time motion sensing method based on 3-dimensional motion estimation. Our method employs pose parameters that are acquired using the ground plane and camera coordinates. This enables an assessment of the positions of the two joints that comprise a skeletal foot model. The proposed approach can capture a foot's 3-dimensional information that an infrared sensor may miss; therefore, motion sensing device's pose estimation results improve. According to the tracking and experimental results, the proposed method is applicable for use by motion sensing devices.

Jung, Da-Un-Jin,Ahmad, Rafiq,Hahn, Yoon-Bong Elsevier 2018 JOURNAL OF COLLOID AND INTERFACE SCIENCE - Vol.512 No.-

Abstract

Herein, we fabricated nonenzymatic flexible field-effect transistor (f-FET) based glucose sensor using nickel oxide quantum dots (NiO QDs) modified zinc oxide nanorods (ZnO NRs). The ZnO NRs surfaces were coated with NiO QDs using radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering to enhance the electrocatalytic feature and the surface area of ZnO NRs. Under physiological conditions (pH 7.4), the nonenzymatic f-FET glucose sensor shows two linear ranges of 0.001–10mM and 10–50mM with the high sensitivity of 13.14μAcm−2 mM−1 and 7.31μAcm−2 mM−1, respectively, along with good selectivity, stability and repeatability during glucose detection. The examination of human whole blood and serum samples reveal that the nonenzymatic f-FET based glucose sensor is capable of measuring glucose concentration efficiently in the presence of interfering species and thus can be offered as a promising device for further applications in clinical and non-clinical fields.

Highlights

A non-enzymatic flexible FET based glucose biosensor was fabricated.

Grown ZnO NRs between source-drain were modified with NiO QDs by sputtering.

An enhanced electrocatalytic features were recorded for glucose detection.

The proposed sensor showed wide-linear range, high sensitivity and a low detection limit.

Successfully used for human whole blood sample and serum sample analysis.

Graphical abstract

[DISPLAY OMISSION]

Effects of TiN Coating on the Fatigue Fracture of Dental Implant System with Various Cyclic Loads

        Da-Un Jung,Chae-Heon Chung,Mee-Kyoung Son,Han-Cheol Choe 한국표면공학회 2015 한국표면공학회지 Vol.48 No.6

The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of TiN coating on the fatigue fracture of dental implant system with various cyclic loads. TiN coated abutment screw, the fixture, and abutment of internal hex type were prepared for fatigue test. The fatigue test was carried out according to ISO 14801:2003(E) using tensile and compression tester with repeated load from 30% to 80% of static fracture force. Morphology and fractured surface was observed by field emission scanning electron microscope(FE-SEM) and energy dispersive Xray spectroscope(EDS). The fracture cycle drastically decreased as repeated load increased. Especially, in the case of TiN-coated abutment screw, fracture cycle increased compared to non-coated abutment screw. The fatigue crack was propagated fast as repeated load increased. The plastic deformation region decreased, whereas, cleavage fracture region increased as repeated load increased.

        정다운(Da-un Jung),윤용인(Yong-In Yun),최종수(Jong-Soo Choi),한성현(Sung-Hyun Han),김동욱(Dong-Wook Kim),김태은(Tae-Eun Kim),김진태(Jin-Tae, Kim) 대한전자공학회 2010 대한전자공학회 학술대회 Vol.2010 No.6

This paper proposes a new method for foot pose estimation using shoes as the node and based on the planar ground in order to estimate diverse foot shapes from an uncalibrated single camera. Our method is two key components: First, the shoe node provides valuable information. This node consists of two points and one line and is used to estimate the accuracy of the match between the actual instep and the foot model; second, the reference point of the model is the midpoint of four points on the planar ground to be computed using a homography method. We demonstrate the proposed method in foot motion tracking scenarios.

        정다운(Da Un Jung),서융호(Yung-Ho Seo),최종수(Jong-Soo Choi) 대한전자공학회 2007 電子工學會論文誌-SP (Signal processing) Vol.44 No.6

Application systems that easy to access a information have been developed by IT growth and a human life variation. In this paper, we propose a application system to register a 3D footwear model using a monocular camera. In General, a human motion analysis research to body movement. However, this system research a new method to use a foot movement. This paper present a system process and show experiment results. For projection to 2D foot plane from 3D shoe model data, we construct processes that a foot tracking, a projection expression and pose estimation process. This system divide from a 2D image analysis and a 3D pose estimation. First, for a foot tracking, we propose a method that find fixing point by a foot characteristic, and propose a geometric expression to relate 2D coordinate and 3D coordinate to use a monocular camera without a camera calibration. We make a application system, and measure distance error. Then, we confirmed a registration very well.
