Objective. Productivity loss was compared by 3-stage of disease activity and associations between higher disease activity and high productivity loss were identified. Methods. Data were extracted from Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) Patient-reported Outcomes Research, which enrolled 2,000 RA patients (>20-year) on disease-modifying-antirheumatic-drugs (DMARDs) (≥ 6-month) from December 2012 to June 2013. This included 1,457 RA patients with the disease activity score (DAS-28-ESR) in their medical charts. Productivity loss in time and indirect cost was estimated using The World Health Organization Health and Work Performance Questionnaire (HPQ). Baseline characteristics and productivity loss outcomes were compared according to DAS-28-ESR groups. Results. 84.4% were females, 54.2% had low DAS-28-ESR (<3.2), and 38.2% and 7.6% had moderate (3.2∼5.1) and high DAS-28-ESR (>5.1). Patients with moderate to high DAS-28-ESR had higher lost productivity time (LPT) and monthly costs of LPT than those with low DAS-28-ESR (time in hours: 110.0±58.4 vs. 132.4±57.2 vs. 71.5±52.0, p<0.0001; monthly costs of LPT in 1,000 Korean won: 1,097±607 vs. 1,302±554 vs. 741±531, p<0.0001). Multiple regression analyses revealed significant associations with high LPT in high (adjusted odds ratio [OR]=3.87, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.18∼6.87) and moderate DAS-28-ESR (adjusted OR=1.88, 95% CI: 1.41∼2.52) compared to low DAS-28-ESR. In addition, positive associations with high monthly costs of LPT were observed in high (adjusted OR=3.45, 95% CI: 1.98∼5.99) and moderate DAS-28-ESR (adjusted OR=1.93, 95% CI: 1.43∼2.54) compared to low DAS-28-ESR. Conclusion. Timely therapeutic strategies should be taken into consideration given that the RA patients with moderate to high DAS-28-ESR showed strong associations with high productivity loss for effective management of RA. Immunosuppressive Effect of the Intraperitonially Injected Pine Needle Distillate in Mice
Chung, Young-Jin,Bae, Myung-Won,Chung, Kyeong-Soo The Korean Society of Food Science and Nutrition 2003 Preventive Nutrition and Food Science Vol.8 No.1
This study examined the effect of pine needle distillate (Pinus densiflora Sieb. et Zucc) on the immune system and hematological parameters. C57BL/6 male mice weighing 20 ~21 g were divided into 3 groups and intraperitonially injected with either 200 $\mu$L of saline (control), 50% diluted (P50) or 100% pine needle distillate (P100) once a day for 24 days. At the end of the experiment, the mice were anesthetized by ether and peripheral blood was collected from the femoral artery and the spleen was excised. Spleen weight decreased significantly (p<0.001) in the pine needle groups compared to the control group. The blood was used for a complete blood count and flow cytometrical analysis after immunofluorescence staining. The pine needle distillate dose-dependently decreased the CD4$^{+}$/CD8 sup +/ ratio (p <0.05), and showed a tendency to increase the mean FSC (forward scatter) values of the CD8$^{+}$T cells, while decrease the values of the CD4$^{+}$T cells. There were no significant differences in WBC, RBC and platelet counts among the three groups, but hemoglobin and hemoglobin-related parameters and platelet volume increased and red blood cell volumes decreased with the administration of the pine needle distillate. These results suggest that the pine needle distillate may have immunosuppressive effects.
Improved Optimization of Indirubin Production from Bioreactor Culture of Polygonum tinctorium
Chung, Choong Sik,Kim, Kyung Il,Bae, Geun Won,Lee, Youn Hyung,Lee, Hyong Joo,Chae, Young Am,Chung, In Sik 한국응용생명화학회 2000 Journal of Applied Biological Chemistry (J. Appl. Vol.43 No.2
Effect of the two-stage operation and cell concentration on indirubin production was investigated using bioreactor culture of Polygonum tinctorium. Two-stage culture was operated successfully for 110 days without any adverse effects on continuous indirubin production. Maximum indirubin concentration was found to be at 80 mg/bioreactor. Initial cell concentration significantly affected indirubin production. The indirubin production at 29.2% PCV was improved by 845%, compared to that at 5% PCV. For high-density bioreactor culture of P. tinctorium, a maximum production rate of 10.2 mg indirubin/L day was obtained. Indirubin recovery for bioreactor operation was also examined using XAD-2, XAD-4, XAD-7, and solid silicon. XAD-4 was 1.6-fold more effective than that for solid silicon in indirubin recovery.
A PRELIMINARY STUDY FOR THE COUPLED ATMOSPHERS-STREAMFLOW MODELING IN KOREA
Bae, Deg-Hyo,Chung, Jun-Seok,Kwon, Won-Tae Korea Water Resources Association 2000 Water engineering research Vol.1 No.1
This study presents some results of a preliminary study for the coupled precipitation and river flow prediction system. The model system in based on three numerical models, Mesoscale Atmospheric Simulation model for generating atmospheric variables. Soil-Plant-Snow model for computing interactions within soil-canopy-snow system as well as the energy and water exchange between the atmosphere and underlying surfaces, and TOPMODEL for simulating stream flow, subsurface flow, and water tabled depth in an watershed. The selected study area is the 2,703 $\alpha_4$ $\km_2$ Soyang River basin with outlet at Soyang dam site. In addition to providing the results of rainfall and stream flow predictions, some results of DEM and GIS application are presented. It is obvious that the accurate river flow predictions are highly dependant on the accurate predictation predictions.

<P>Easy detection: The target DNA in a 10-100?aM range can be detected by pre-complexed nanoparticles without additional amplification or target labeling. The [Ru(bpy)(3)](2+)-doped silica nanoparticles are hybridized to form a complex with highly enhanced sensitivity (see scheme). This method will be a significant improvement over conventional microarray/fluorescence readout systems.</P>

<P>System-integrated modular advanced reactor (SMART) is a small-sized advanced integral type pressurized water reactor (PWR) with a rated thermal power of 330 MW. It can produce 100 MW of electricity or 90 MW of electricity and 40,000 ton of desalinated water concurrently, which is sufficient for 100,000 residents. The design features contributing to safety enhancement are basically inherent safety improvement and passive safety features. TASS/SMR code was developed for an analysis of design based events and accidents in an integral type reactor reflecting the characteristics of the SMART design. The main purpose of the code is to analyze all relevant phenomena and processes. The code should be validated using experimental data in order to confirm prediction capability. TASS/SMR predicts well the overall thermal-hydraulic behavior under various natural circulation conditions at the experimental test facility for an integral reactor. A pressure loss should be provided a function of Reynolds number at low velocity conditions in order to simulate the mass flow rate well under natural circulations.</P>
