Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the stress distribution on the orthodontic mini-implant (OMI) surface and periodontal ligament of the maxillary first and second molars as well as the tooth displacement according to the OMI position in the dragon helix appliance during scissors-bite correction. Methods: OMIs were placed at two maxillary positions, between the first and the second premolars (group 1) and between the second premolar and the first molar (group 2). The stress distribution area (SDA) was analyzed by three-dimensional finite element analysis. Results: The maximal SDA of the OMI did not differ between the groups. It was located at the cervical area and palatal root apex of the maxillary first molar in groups 1 and 2, respectively, indicating less tipping in group 2. The minimal SDA was located at the root and furcation area of the maxillary second molar in groups 1 and 2, respectively, indicating greater palatal crown displacement in group 2. Conclusions: Placement of the OMI between the maxillary second premolar and the maxillary first molar to serve as an indirect anchor in the dragon helix appliance minimizes anchorage loss while maximizing the effect on scissors-bite correction.

<P>Optical confinement effects are investigated in InGaN/GaN axial-heterostructure nanolasers. Cylindrical nanorods with GaN/InGaN/GaN structures are prepared using combined processes of top-down and bottom-up approaches. The lasing of InGaN is observed at a low threshold (1 μJ cm<SUP>−2</SUP>), which is attributed to an efficient carrier transfer process from GaN to InGaN. The lasing of GaN is also found in the threshold range of 10-20 μJ cm<SUP>−2</SUP> with a superlinear increase in emission intensity and high quality factors (<I>Q</I> = 1000), implying that dual wavelengths of lasing are tunable as a function of excitation intensity. The non-classical Fabry-Pérot modes suggest strong light-matter interactions in nanorods by optical confinement effects. The polarization of lasing indicates that the non-classical modes are in the identical transverse mode, which supports the formation of exciton-polaritons in nanorods. Polariton lasing in a single axial-heterostructure nanorod is observed for the first time, which proposes small-sized light sources with low threshold, polarized light, and tunable wavelengths in a single nanorod.</P>

효소의 염에 대한 안정성은 식품산업 응용에 있어서 중요한 인자이다. 이전에, leucine aminopeptidase (LAP)은 Bacillus sp. N2에서 정제되었다. 본 연구에서는, LAP효소의 염 효과에 관한 연구를 수행했다. LAP은 고농도의 NaCl (4 M)에서 L-leucine-ρ-nitroanilide의 가수분해활성을 가지고 있지만, 다른 중성 염들(LiBr, LiCl, NaBr, KBr, KCl)에서는 활성이 없었다. 그 효소는 0-4 M NaCl 농도에서 C-말단 Xaa쪽에 소수성 아미노산과 친수성 아미노산을 가진 여러 di-peptide 합성 기질들을 가수분해하였는데, 이러한 결과는 LAP의 가수분해성은 기질의 Scissile bond에 있는 아미노산 사이드 체인의 소수성과는 관련이 없다라는 것을 의미한다. 또한, LAP의 가수분해활성은 4.5 M NaCl 농도에서 다른 LAP와 Aminopeptidase의 활성 보다 1-3배가 높다라는 것을 보여주었다. 이러한 결과들은 NaCl에 내성을 지닌 LAP을 치즈와 멸치 젓갈과 같은 식품 산업에 응용될 수 있다는 것을 보여준다. Salt stability of enzymes is a crucial practical factor in the food industry. Previously, leucine aminopeptidase (LAP) was purified from Bacillus sp. N2. Here, we present the salt effect of LAP using synthetic substrates. LAP had a hydrolytic activity for L-leucine-ρ-nitroanilide in high concentrations of NaCl (up to 4 M), but not for other neutral salts (LiBr, LiCl, NaBr, KBr, and KCl). It hydrolyzed various synthetic di-peptide substrates with hydrophobic and hydrophilic amino acids at the C-terminal Xaa region, in the presence of 0-4 M NaCl. The result indicated that the hydrolytic action of LAP is not dependent on the hydrophobicity of the amino acid side chain at the scissile bond of the substrate. Remarkably, the hydrolytic activity of LAP was 1-3 folds higher than those of other LAPs and aminopeptidases in 4.5 M NaCl, suggesting that NaCl-tolerant LAP might be used in the food industry as cheese and anchovy sauce.
Risk Factors for Anxiety in Major Depressive Disorder Patients

Objective: To analyze the sociodemographic and clinical factors related to anxiety in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). Methods: This study involved a secondary analysis of data obtained from the Diagnostic Assessment Service for People with Bipolar Disorders in China (DASP), which was initiated by the Chinese Society of Psychiatry (CSP) and conducted from September 1, 2010 to February 28, 2011. Based on the presence or absence of anxiety-related characteristics, 1,178 MDD patients were classified as suffering from anxious depression (n=915) or non-anxious depression (n=263), respectively. Results: Compared with the non-anxious group, the anxious-depression group had an older age at onset (t=−4.39, p<0.001), were older (t=−4.69, p<0.001), reported more lifetime depressive episodes (z=−3.24, p=0.001), were more likely to experience seasonal depressive episodes (χ2=6.896, p=0.009) and depressive episodes following stressful life events (χ2=59.350, p <0.001), and were more likely to have a family history of psychiatric disorders (χ2=6.091, p=0.014). Their positive and total scores on the Mood Disorder Questionnaire (MDQ) and the 32-item Hypomania Checklist (HCL-32) (p<0.05) were also lower. The logistic regression analysis indicated that age (odds ratio [OR]=1.03, p<0.001), a lower total MDQ score (OR=0.94, p=0.011), depressive episodes following stressful life events (OR=3.04, p<0.001), and seasonal depressive episodes (OR=1.75, p=0.039) were significantly associated with anxious depression. Conclusion: These findings indicate that older age, fewer subclinical bipolar features, an increased number of depressive episodes following stressful life events, and seasonal depressive episodes may be risk factors for anxiety-related characteristics in patients with MDD.
자동 시각 굴절력 - 곡률계의 전자 부문 하드웨어 설계

현재 국내의 시각 관련 전문가들이 일반적으로 사용하는 자동 시각 굴절력-곡률계(Auto Ref-Keratometer)는 대부분 일본 제품들을 포함하는 외국산들이다. 최근 국내에서도 일부 기업에서 시각 측정기 부문에서의 개발을 행하고 있으나 아직 외국 제품들에는 정확도, 성능 등에서 크게 미흡한 수준을 보이고 있다. 이에 좀 더 개선된 성능의 광학 부문, 소프트웨어 부문, 전자 하드웨어 부문등이 요구되고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 하드웨어의 변경 없이 전자 부문 소프트웨어의 다양한 변경을 가할 수 있도록 해 주어 개발 기간을 크게 줄일 수 있고 고객 데이터베이스 구축 등의 응용 확장도 가능하도록 범용성을 갖춘 자동 시각 굴절력 곡률계의 전자 부문 하드웨어를 설계하였다. 본 전자 부문 하드웨어 시스템은 동시 개발 중인 광학 부문, 전자 부문 소프트웨어와 연동되어 외국 제품에 비교시 정확도와 성능면에서 근소하나마 향상된 결과를 낼 수 있게 하였을 뿐 아니라 향후 발전 가능성도 크게 향상시킬 수 있었다.
