Stairways made by Precast Concrete(PC) are emerging as alternative to traditional Reinforced Concrete(RC) stairways, PC stairs can reduce construction time and cost with improved quality compared to RC stairs. The existing PC stairway construction method often requires the placement of surrounding walls and PC stairways at the same time to secure connection between the two elements. The method described in this paper has the advantage of allowing the construction of walls and stairways in sequence, not together, this is possible because of developed technique for the connection and the other convenient ways for the PC stairways. Application of the method in various construction sites is analyzed and studied for further development.

In recent years, new construction methods and building materials are being developed for more economic and time-saving construction especially for underground structures. In the process of top-down construction, a need for installing perimeter beams to support earth-retaining structures and beams from prefounded columns can cause delay of total construction time. A newly developed opened slab system can eliminate the perimeter beams by forming a slab floor which includes the structural function of the perimeter beams. In this paper, the details of the opened slab system have been described and the results of compressive tests on the opening areas of the slabs. The developed system is currently used in several construction sites and compared with existing methods for its advantages in this paper.

A 22-year-old man is presented with 3 months' history of dull pain on the lower thoracic area. Imaging studies suggested osteoid osteoma of 11th thoracic spine, which was verified pathologically after en bloc resection through transfacetal approach. The patient's preoperative pain was resolved immediately. We emphasize the importance of early diagnosis and complete surgical excision of tumor nidus.

<P><B>Background and Purpose—</B></P><P>The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether bright vessel appearance on arterial spin labeling (ASL) MRI can help localize arterial occlusion sites in patients with acute ischemic stroke.</P><P><B>Methods—</B></P><P>Patients who underwent MRI for suspected acute ischemic stroke, as identified by an area of restricted diffusion, were included. All images were visually analyzed for the presence or absence of (1) arterial occlusion on time-of-flight MR angiography, (2) bright vessel appearance on ASL images, and (3) susceptibility vessel sign. McNemar 2-tailed test was used to compare the sensitivities of ASL and susceptibility-weighted imaging for the detection of arterial occlusion, using MR angiography as the reference standard.</P><P><B>Results—</B></P><P>ASL bright vessel appearance was significantly more common in the group with occlusion than in the group without occlusion (94% [33 of 35] versus 21% [17 of 82], respectively; <I>P</I><0.001). The bright vessel appearance, when present, was seen proximal or distal to the occlusion site. The bright vessel appearance had a significantly higher sensitivity for the detection of occlusion than the susceptibility vessel sign (94% [33 of 35] versus 66% [23 of 35], respectively; <I>P</I>=0.002). In cases with negative MR angiography, the bright vessel appearance helped identify more additional arterial occlusions than the susceptibility vessel sign (21% [17 of 82] versus 10% [8 of 82], respectively; <I>P</I>=0.012).</P><P><B>Conclusions—</B></P><P>The bright vessel appearance on ASL imaging can provide an important diagnostic clue for the detection and localization of arterial occlusion sites in patients with acute ischemic stroke.</P>
소아 두뇌외상에 대한 임상적 고찰 : Analysis of 481 Cases

Clinical observation and analysis were performed on 481 cases of craniocerebral injuries under 15 years of age those were treated at Chung-ang university hospital during the period from January, 1972 to August, 1975. Following results were obtained: 1. There were 302 males and 179 females and sex ratio was 1.7 : 1. 2. Age incidence of the accidents was greatest at 5 years of age and mostly distributed to the age group between 5 to 7. 3. Seasonal peak of the accidents was at June. 4. The most frequent cause of the craniocerebra1 injuries was traffic accident (277 cases. 57.59%), and the next was fa11 from height (159 cases, 33.06%). 5. No deterioration of consciousness before and after the admission was observed in 176 cases (36.6%). 6. Pupillary change was observed in 28 cases in which unilateral were 21 and bilateral were 7. Babinski sign was elicitable in 91 cases. 7. Early convulsion and vomiting were frequent symptoms in childhood. 8. Skull fracture was observed in 204 cases (40.33%) in which linear fracture was most frequent. The location of the linear fracture was parietal and the predilection sites of the depressed fractures were frontal and parietal. 9. The accompanying rate of skull fracture in intracranial hemorrhage was; epidural 75%, subdural 50% and subarachnoid 17.3%. 10. The overall mortality was 8.32%. In non-surgical group (442 cases), the mortality rate was 7.47% but in surgical group (39 cases), operation mortality was 17.95%.
순환정지와 저체온 및 Barbiturate를 이용한 후혈행 뇌동맥류 수술 3례 : 3 Cases

Direct approach of technically difficult or inoperable intracranial aneurysms may become possible using complete circulatory arrest with extracorporeal circulation and profound hypotherima and barbiturate cerebral protecion. To avoid difficulties associated with closed chest method, open chest method was used by direct cannulation of the right artium and aorta through the chest. 3 patiens with posterior cirulation aneurysms operated on with these techniques ; 1 large basilar bifurcation aneurysm and 1 irregular shaped vertebro-basilar junction aneurysm and 1 posterior cerebral artery aneurysm were operated on and all had excellent results. Careful attention was needed to the depth of hypothermia, duration of total circulatory arrest, and hemostasis which important factors in the success of these methods.
