The thermodynamic behavior of excitonic emission properties in manganese- and zinc-codoped indium phosphide (InMnP:Zn) diluted magnetic semiconductor (DMS) layers was investigated. Compared to the InMnP:Zn DMS layer (Mn ≈ 0.06%), the inhomogeneous thermal-broadening of the excitonic-emission line-width in InMnP:Zn DMS layer (Mn ≈ 0.29%) is dominant at lower temperatures. This is attributed to the increase of ionized impurity scattering from Mn ions and results in the increase of exciton–phonon coupling strength. As a consequence, high Mn content can lead to low excitonic emission efficiency, although generally a larger Mn content is favorable to increase the Curie temperature of a DMS material.

Graphic Abstract

Assuming omnidirectional antenna reception, the ITU-R recently developed a new propagation model on building entry loss (BEL) for 5G millimeter-wave frequency sharing and compatibility studies, which is a simplified outdoor-to-indoor path loss model. Considering the utilization of high-gain narrow-beamwidth beamforming, the omnidirectional-based ITU-R BEL model may not be appropriate to predict propagation characteristics for directional beamforming scenarios. This paper studies the effects of beamwidth on the ITU-R BEL model. This study is based on field measurements collected with four different beamwidth antennas: omnidirectional, 10° horn, 30° horn, and 60° horn. The measurement campaigns were conducted at two types of building sites: traditional and thermally efficient buildings. These sites, as well as the measurement scenarios, were carefully chosen to comply with the ITU-R BEL measurement guidelines and the ITU-R building types. We observed the importance of accurate beam alignment from the BEL variation range. We were able to quantify the beamwidth dependency by fitting to a model that is inversely proportional to the beamwidth.
Electrosorption of Uranium Ions in Liquid Waste
Lee, Hye-Young,Jung, Chong-Hun,Oh, Won-Zin,Park, Jin-Ho,Shul, Yong-Gun Korean Carbon Society 2003 Carbon Letters Vol.4 No.2
A study on the electrosorption of uranium ions onto a porous activated carbon fiber (ACF) was performed to treat uraniumcontaining lagoon sludge. The result of the continuous flow-through cell electrosorption experiments showed that the applied negative potential increased the adsorption kinetics and capacity in comparison to the open-circuit potential (OCP) adsorption for uranium ions. Effective U(VI) removal is accomplished when a negative potential is applied to the activated carbon fiber (ACF) electrode. For a feed concentration of 100 mg/L, the concentration of U(VI) in the cell effluent is reduced to less than 1 mg/L. The selective removal of uranium ions from electrolyte was possible by the electrosorption process.
Comprehensive Proteome Analysis of the Excretory/Secretory Proteins of Toxoplasma gondii
Lee, Won-Kyu,Ahn, Hye-Jin,Baek, Je-Hyun,Lee, Chong-Heon,Yu, Yeon Gyu,Nam, Ho-Woo Korean Chemical Society 2014 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.35 No.10
Proteomic analyses of the excretory/secretory proteins from the RH strain of Toxoplasma gondii have been performed to understand their functions in the host-parasite interaction. A total of 34 proteins were identified from LC/MS/MS analysis and their abundance was estimated by spectral counting methods. Among them, 8 species of micronemal proteins (MICs), 2 species of rhoptry proteins (ROPs), and 6 species of dense granular proteins (GRAs) were confirmed. Besides these, 18 species of protein were newly identified, and their cellular functions were estimated from sequence analysis. The three most abundant of the 34 identified extractor/secretory proteins-GRA1, GRA7 and GRA2-were confirmed to be highly expressed in T. gondii using the spectral count method. This phenomenon is another demonstration of the importance of GRA proteins for the penetration and survival of T. gondii.
Coalescence and polygonization of Au nanoparticles embedded in liquid-crystalline lipid membrane.
Lee, Seung Jae,An, Hyeun Hwan,Han, Won Bae,Kim, Hee-Soo,Kim, Yongdeok,Yoon, Chong Seung American Scientific Publishers 2013 Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Vol.13 No.9

Coarsening behavior of Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) embedded in a liquid crystalline lipid (1,2-dioleoyl-3-trimethylammonium-propane, DOTAP) membrane was investigated by heat treating the AuNP-embedded DOTAP membrane at 80 degrees C with 15% and 80% relative humidity (RH). The coarsening rate was (D) to approximately t0.6 regardless of the humidity; however, the spatial distribution and the coarsening mechanism differed depending on the humidity. In addition, extended treatment at 15% RH resulted in formation of large polygonized AuNPs from the lipid segregation.
