목적:발작의 분류는 발작의 원인, 예후를 추정하거나 항경련제를 선택하는 데 있어 매우 중요하며 뇌파검사는 발작의 종류를 구분하고 적절한 치료를 하기 위해 시행하는 중요한 검사이다. 저자들은 소아에서 임상적 발작이 확실한 경우 간질발작의 임상양상과 뇌파검사 간의 일치 정도를 알아보고자 한다. 방법:2000년 1월 1일부터 2008년 9월 30일까지 1회 이상의 간질발작을 주소로 가천의대 길병원 소아청소년과에 방문한 환자 중 본원에서 처음으로 뇌파검사를 시행한 환자를 대상으로 하였다. 발작의 임상양상은 목격자와 본인의 설명을 기록한 의무기록지를 기준으로 하여 부분발작과 전신발작으로 분류하였고 뇌파검사는 발작간간질양방전을 기준으로 정상과 비정상으로 분류하였으며 각성과 수면상태 모두에서 시행하였다. 결과:총 461명의 환자의 뇌파검사 시의 평균 연령은 6.7세였고 남자는 247명, 여자는 214명이었다. 전체 환자에서 발작의 임상양상은 부분발작이 310명, 전신발작이 187명이었다. 각성뇌파검사에서 비정상은 158명으로 부분발작파가 118명, 전신발작파가 59명, 두 가지 발작파가 한 환자에서 나온 경우가 19명이었고, 수면뇌파검사에서는 비정상이 239명으로 부분발작파가 196명, 전신발작파가 77명, 두 가지 발작파가 한 환자에서 나온 경우가 34명이었으며 전체 환자에서는 비정상이 273명으로 부분발작파가 216명, 전신발작파가 97명, 두 가지 발작파가 한 환자에서 나온 경우가 40명이었다. 간질증후군은 전체 환자 중 90명에서 관찰되었다. 146명(41.5%)의 부분발작과 44명(23.4%)의 전신발작 및 79명(87.8 %)의 간질증후군이 뇌파소견과 일치하였다. 결론:영유아 및 소아에 있어 발작을 진단할 때에는 발작양상 분 아니라 정확한 뇌파소견을 세심하게 고려하여야 한다. Purpose:Electroencephalography(EEG) is an essential method carried out for classifying seizures and taking appropriate treatment. The aim of this study is to investigate the concordance between clinical findings of epileptic seizures and EEG in children. Methods:We enrolled 461 patients from those who visited Gil hospital from January 1, 2000 to September 30, 2008 with the chief complaint of epileptic seizure more than once and checked their first EEG at the same hospital. The clinical findings of seizure were based on the charts and interictal waking and sleep EEGs were done. Results:The mean age of the patients was 6.7 years old. 497 epileptic seizures occurred and its clinical finding included 310 of partial seizures and 187 of generalized seizures. In 315 waking EEG 158 were abnormal including 118 of partial seizures, 59 of generalized seizures and 19 of both seizures, in 431 sleep EEG 239 were abnormal including 196 of partial seizures, 77 of generalized seizures and 34 of both seizures, and in waking and/or sleep EEG 273 were abnormal including 216 of partial seizures, 97 of generalized seizures and 40 of both seizures. Epileptic syndromes were observed in 90 patients. 146(41.5%) of partial seizures, 44(23.4%) of generalized seizures, and 79(87.8%) of epileptic syndromes accorded with EEG. Conclusion:When diagnosing seizures in children, we must consider not only clinical findings but also accurate EEG findings.
Ceratocystis quercicola sp. nov. from Quercus variabilis in Korea

During a survey of putative fungal pathogens infecting oak trees in the Gangwon Province of the Republic of Korea, a fungus resembling a Ceratocystis sp. was repeatedly isolated from natural wounds on Quercus variabilis. Morphological comparisons and DNA sequence comparisons based on partial β-tubulin and TEF-1α gene regions showed that the fungus resided in a distinct lineage. This novel Ceratocystis species is described here as C. quercicola sp. nov. This is the first novel species of Ceratocystis to be reported from Korea. A pathogenicity test showed that it can cause lesions on inoculated trees but that it had a very low level of aggressiveness. The discovery of this fungus suggests that additional taxa residing in Ceratocystis are likely to be discovered in Korea in the future.

The objective of this study was to investigate the interrelationship of weight and hormonal changes through the administration of vitamin A to first time pregnant heifers. A total of 28 Korean heifers was used for this study. The heifers were divided into two groups - with vitamin A (n=14) and without vitamin A (control) (n=14) in the feed. Body weight increased in vitamin A treated heifers starting 9 months until 15 months. After pregnancy, vitamin A treated heifers were found to maintain higher body weights than the control group. Pre-pregnancy and post pregnancy progesterone levels were not different between the two groups. Serum estradiol levels of heifers at different growth stages showed relatively higher E2 levels than the control. Also, the control during pregnancy may show higher serum E2 levels than the vitamin A treated heifers. The growth phase serum estradiol levels in heifers may be relatively higher than the control. During pregnancy it showed a similar trend. Serum levels of vitamin A treated heifers did not differ from pregnant heifers at 5 months of age. However, after 5 months from conception until 8 months of treatment it showed a high level. Serum cholesterol in pregnant cows was higher in the control group than the treatment from beginning until the end of pregnancy. This is considered to be related to fetus development during pregnancy, as well as the mother's health.

In summer, the high ambient air temperatures and increased solar radiation cause rises in rail temperatures, and rails can experience the buckling. In this study, a thermofluidic analysis was conducted to predict the temperature of a rail. Numerical simulations were performed by changing the orientation of the rails. The south-north rail and the east-west rail was named “0° rail” and “90° rail”, respectively. The numerical results from the 0° and 90° rails were validated by comparing them with measured values. Based on this validation, the temperature distribution of a 45° rail was analyzed. The total amount of energies received by the rail were in the order of 0° > 45° > 90°. The results of this study showed that the temperature of a rail can be sufficiently predicted through numerical simulation, and this approach can be used in a forecast to predict a time when buckling might occur.

Purpose: Sporadic colorectal cancers with high-frequency microsatellite instability (MSI-H) are related to hypermethylation of mismatch repair (MMR) genes and a higher frequency of BRAF mutations than Lynch syndrome. We estimated the feasibility of hereditary colorectal cancer based on hMLH1 methylation and BRAF mutations. Methods: Between May 2005 and June 2011, we enrolled all 33 analyzed patients with MSI-H cancer (male:female, 23:10; mean age, 65.5 ± 9.4 years) from a prospectively maintained database that didn’t match Bethesda guidelines and who had results of hMLH1 methylation and BRAF mutations. Results: Among the 33 patients, hMLH1 promoter methylation was observed in 36.4% (n = 12), and was not significantly related with clinicopathologic variables, including MLH1 expression. BRAF mutations were observed in 33.3% of the patients (n = 11). Four of 11 and five of 22 patients with MSI-H colon cancers were BRAF mutation (+)/ hMLH1 promoter methylation (?) or BRAF mutation (?)/hMLH1 promoter methylation (+). Of the 33 patients, 21.2% were BRAF mutation (+)/hMLH1 promoter methylation (+), indicating sporadic cancers. Seventeen patients (51.5%) were BRAF mutation (?)/ hMLH1 promoter methylation (?), and suggested Lynch syndrome. Conclusion: Patients with MSI-H colorectal cancers not fulfilling the Bethesda guidelines possibly have hereditary colorectal cancers. Adding tests of hMLH1 promoter methylation and BRAF mutations can be useful to distinguish them from sporadic colorectal cancers.

<P>Bioassay-guided fractionation of the EtOAc extract from <I>Disporum viridescens</I> roots led to the isolation of five new benzyl benzoate glycosides, BBGs (<B>1</B>–<B>5</B>). The neuroprotective activities of the BBGs were screened using neuronal HT22 hippocampal cells. BBG-D (<B>4</B>) significantly protected murine hippocampal HT22 cells against glutamate-induced neurotoxicity by maintaining the antioxidative defense systems such as superoxide dismutase, glutathione reductase, glutathione peroxidase, and the glutathione content. BBG-D, in a dose-and time-dependent manner, increased HO-1 expression through the selective activation of pERK signaling among the MAPK pathways. This Paper presents about selecting the most suitable load used for distribution optimization considering time-varying load demand and generation of DG. The objective of this paper is to find optimal load which obtain best network reconfiguration result according to time-varying load demand and DG generation. Many researches about distribution reconfiguration for optimization have been studied for ages and they have used constant loads only for reconfiguration. To get the best result, however, at least for 24 hours time-varying load demand and generation of DG should be considered. Four daily load curves and one PV generation curve have been decomposed into sequential levels. But, the optimal distribution reconfiguration considering time-varying load demand and PV generation should not to be the only scheme. Because, the reconfiguration result may demand hourly switching operation of electric devices and it might cause deterioration of switches lifespan. Therefore, the method of how to select the most optimal load considering not only time-varying loads demand and DGs generation but also the number of switching for maximizing income is researched. The method of selecting optimal load is proved by adapting to a simple model system and the more efficient result is also confirmed in this paper.
