Effects of Quenching Methods and Aging Processes on the Crushing Properties and Microstructure of Al–Zn–Mg Alloy Thin-Walled Square Extrusions

        Hui Guo,Jin Zhang,Cheng Wang,Yun‑lai Deng 대한금속·재료학회 2022 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.28 No.8

In this study, the effects of different (online quenching and offline quenching) quenching methods and aging processes (T6and T73) on the crashworthiness and microstructural evolution of three Al–Zn–Mg alloys (G1–G3) were studied by conductingtensile test and axial compression tests at room temperature, combined with optical metallography, electron back scattereddiffraction, and transmission electron microscopy microstructural observations. The obtained results revealed that thecrushing properties of three different Al–Zn–Mg alloys subjected to different quenching methods and aging processes weresignificantly different. Their crushing energy absorption of are ranked as follows: G1 > G3 > G2. The highest total energyabsorption gap (between T6 and T73) is the G1 alloy, and the lowest one is the G3 alloy. The largest total energy absorptiongap between the two quenching methods is the G3 alloy, and the smallest one is the G1 alloy. The G2 alloy with the largesttotal amount of Zn + Mg has the highest number density of matrix precipitates, the largest precipitate gap (between T6 andT73) and the smallest precipitate gap between the two quenching methods. The G3 alloy with the largest Zn/Mg ratio hasthe smallest number density of matrix precipitates, the minimum precipitation gap (between T6 and T73) and the maximumprecipitation gap between the two quenching methods. The G1 alloy with the lowest Zn/Mg ratio has the smallest size ofgrain boundary precipitates and PFZ width, while their largest values are obtained for the G3 alloy with the maximum Zn/Mg ratio. As a crushing resistant structural material, the crushing properties is improved without reducing the strength. Theratio of Zn/Mg should be controlled within the range of 4.57–6.15, while the total amount of Zn + Mg should be controlledwithin the range of 6.18–7.01.

In Vitro Screening for Compounds Derived from Traditional Chinese Medicines with Antiviral Activities Against Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus

( Jia Cheng ),( Na Sun ),( Xin Zhao ),( Li Niu ),( Mei Qin Song ),( Yao Gui Sun ),( Jun Bing Jiang ),( Jian Hua Guo2 ),( Yuan Sheng Bai ),( Jun Ping He ),( Hong Quan Li ) 한국미생물 · 생명공학회 2013 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.23 No.8

Seventeen compounds derived from traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs) were tested for their antiviral activity against porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) in vitro. Visualization with the cytopathologic effect (CPE) assay and the 3-(4, 5-dimethyithiazol- 2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide test were used to determine the 50% cytotoxic concentration (CC50) and 50% effective concentration (EC50) in cultured Marc-145 cells. Among the tested compounds, chlorogenic acid and scutellarin showed potential anti-PRRSV activity. The EC50 values were 270.8 ± 14.6 μg/ml and 28.21 ± 26.0 μg/ml and the selectivity indexes were >5.54 and 35.5, respectively. The time-of-addition and virucidal assay indicated that the anti-PRRSV activity of the two compounds could be due to their inhibiting the early stage of virus replication and/or inactivating the virus directly. The inhibition of the virus attachment was not observed in the adsorption inhibition assay. The inhibition ratios of chlorogenic acid and scutellarin were, respectively, 90.8% and 61.1% at the maximum non-cytotoxic concentrations. The results have provided a basis for further exploration of their antiviral properties and mechanisms in vivo. We believe that the chlorogenic acid and scutellarin have a great potential to be developed as new anti-PRRSV drugs for clinical application.

Bending of a rectangular plate resting on a fractionalized Zener foundation

        Cheng-Cheng Zhang,Hong-Hu Zhu,Bin Shi,Guo-Xiong Mei 국제구조공학회 2014 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.52 No.6

The long-term performance of plates resting on viscoelastic foundations is a major concern in the analysis of soil-structure interaction. As a powerful mathematical tool, fractional calculus may address these plate-on-foundation problems. In this paper, a fractionalized Zener model is proposed to study the time-dependent behavior of a uniformly loaded rectangular thin foundation plate. By use of the viscoelasticelastic correspondence principle and the Laplace transforms, the analytical solutions were obtained in termsof the Mittag-Leffler function. Through the analysis of a numerical example, the calculated plate deflection, bending moment and foundation reaction were compared to those from ideal elastic and standard viscoelastic models. It is found that the upper and lower bound solutions of the plate response estimated by the proposed model can be determined using the elastic model. Based on a parametric study, the impacts of model parameters on the long-term performance of a foundation plate were systematically investigated. The results show that the two spring stiffnesses govern the upper and lower bound solutions of the plate response. By varying the values of the fractional differential order and the coefficient of viscosity, the timedependent behavior of a foundation plate can be accurately captured. The fractional differential order seems to be dependent on the mechanical properties of the ground soil. A sandy foundation will have a small fractional differential order while in order to simulate the creeping of clay foundation, a larger fractional differential order value is needed. The fractionalized Zener model is capable of accounting for the primary and secondary consolidation processes of the foundation soil and can be used to predict the plateperformance over many decades of time.

      • A Feature-based Tumor Detection for MRI Breast Imaging

        Guo-Shiang Lin,Sin-Kuo Daniel Chai,Wei-Cheng Yeh,Lin-Jie Cheng 대한전자공학회 2008 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2008 No.7

In this paper, we propose a feature-based scheme composed of the intra-slice, texture and inter-slice analyses to achieve tumor region identification in MRI breast images. Our intra-slice analysis evaluates the intensity and size information of candidate regions. To find a precise region, a region growing algorithm is proposed based on ellipse fitness. In the texture analysis, some texture features are extracted and combined with a neural network to reduce the false alarms. The inter-slice analysis is based on the continuity characteristic to verify the static behavior of tumor regions. The experimental results show that our proposed scheme can correctly identify tumor regions.

      • DNA Repair Gene Polymorphisms Do Not Predict Response to Radiotherapy-Based Multimodality Treatment of Patients with Rectal Cancer: a Meta-analysis

Guo, Cheng-Xian,Yang, Guo-Ping,Pei, Qi,Yin, Ji-Ye,Tan, Hong-Yi,Yuan, Hong Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.2

Background: A number of association studies have been carried out to investigate the relationship between genetic polymorphisms in DNA repair genes and response to radiotherapy-based multimodality treatment of patients with rectal cancer. However, their conclusions were inconsistent. The objective of the present study was to assess the role of DNA repair gene genetic polymorphisms in predicting genetic biomarkers of the response in rectal cancer patients treated with neoadjuvant chemoradiation. Materials and Methods: Studies were retrieved by searching the PubMed database, Cochrane Library, Embase, and ISI Web of Knowledge. We conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the association between genetic polymorphisms and the response in rectal cancer treated with neoadjuvant chemoradiation by checking odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: Data were extracted from 5 clinical studies for this meta-analysis. The results showed that XRCC1 RS25487, XRCC1 RS179978, XRCC3 RS861539, ERCC1 RS11615 and ERCC2 RS13181 were not associated with the response in the radiotherapy-based multimodality treatment of patients with rectal cancer (p>0.05). Conclusions: This study shows that DNA repair gene common genetic polymorphisms are not significantly correlated with the radiotherapy-based multimodality treatment in rectal cancer patients.

EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON A NOVEL DEFROST CYCLE FOR AIR SOURCE HEAT PUMP

        Guo, Xian-Min,Wang, Ya-Jing,Fu, Wen-Cheng,Tao, Xiang-Cheng The Society of Air-Conditioning and Refrigerating 2010 International Journal Of Air-Conditioning and Refr Vol.18 No.1

On the basis of the hot-gas bypass defrost cycle, a new defrost method for air source heat pump is proposed. In the new defrost cycle, the outdoor heat exchanger is divided into two parts which are connected by a capillary tube. The front and rear parts of the heat exchanger are used as the evaporator and condenser respectively during defrosting, and can be defrosted orderly by using the four-way valve. The defrosting performance of the new cycle is investigated experimentally and the results are compared with that of the reverse-cycle defrost system. The experimental results indicate that the energy is used more efficiently in the new defrost cycle, therefore, the defrosting duration and losses are less than those of the reverse-cycle defrost system. Moreover, it does not extract heat from the indoor space during defrosting in terms of the new defrost cycle. Compared with the reverse-cycle defrost system, it is found that the switching times of the four-way valve in the new defrost system are the same, and the fluctuation of the discharge and suction pressures during the defrosting is much less than that in the reverse-cycle defrosting, hence, the mechanical impact on the system is much less.

Microstructure control of Fe catalyst films for the growth of multiwalled carbon nanotube arrays

        Guo-an Cheng,Hua-ping Liu,Rui-ting Zheng,Yong Zhao,Chang-lin Liang 한국물리학회 2008 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.52 No.-

Fe catalyst films were deposited on silicon substrates by using a metal vapor vacuum arc (MEVVA) ion deposition system for the growth of aligned multiwalled carbon nanotubes. The effects of deposition angle and film thickness on the morphologies of catalyst films before and after thermal treatment were investigated. The results show that the uniformities of both 5-nm and 10-nm films are enhanced as the deposition angle decreases. With increase from 5 nm to 10 nm, the surface uniformities of pristine films prepared at higher deposition angles (60˚ and 90˚) are increased, while that of the films produced at 30˚ deposition angle is slightly decreased. The uniformity of Fe catalyst particle sizes after thermal treatment on the whole, clearly decreases as the thickness is increased from 5 nm to 10 nm in the case of the same deposition angle. 5-nm films deposited at 30˚ deposition angle show the most uniform features before and after thermal treatment and can be used for the synthesis of high-quality carbon nanotube arrays. • Relationship Between PTEN and Livin Expression and Malignancy of Renal Cell Carcinomas

Cheng, Tao,Zhang, Jian-Guo,Cheng, Yuan-He,Gao, Zhong-Wei,Ren, Xiao-Qiang Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.6

Objectives: This study focused on PTEN and Livin expression and associations with malignancy in human renal clear cell carcinomas (RCCC). Methods: PTEN and Livin expression was assessed in 100 RCCC tissue samples, 50 paracarcinoma cases, and 20 normal renal tissue samples using the immunohistochemical Streptavidin proxidase (SP) method. The relationships between binding and corresponding biological characteristics, such as histological grade, lymph node metastases, and clinical stages were analyzed. Results: Positive PTEN expression in RCCC was significantly lower than in renal tissue adjacent to carcinoma tissue and normal renal tissue (P<0.01). Livin expression in the renal tissue adjacent to the carcinoma and normal renal tissues exhibited only low levels, whereas overall Livin expression in RCCC was statistically significant (P<0.01). In RCCC, PTEN expression rate gradually decreased with an increase in clinical stage, whereas that of Livin increased to statistically significant levels (P<0.01), PTEN and Livin levels being negatively correlated (r=-0.395, P<0.01). Conclusions: PTEN and Livin are important in RCCC development. The two factors combined are expected to provide indices for estimating RCCC malignancy and progression levels, as well as references for RCCC diagnosis and treatment.
