Development of Matrix Metalloproteinases-Mediated Extracellular Matrix Remodeling in Regenerative Medicine: A Mini Review

        Chen Kaiqi,Xu Mimi,Lu Feng,He Yunfan 한국조직공학과 재생의학회 2023 조직공학과 재생의학 Vol.20 No.5

Extracellular matrix (ECM) components confer biomechanical properties, maintain cell phenotype and mediate tissue homeostasis. ECM remodeling is complex and plays a key role in both physiological and pathological processes. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are a group of enzymes responsible for ECM degradation and have been accepted as a key regulator in ECM remodeling. In this mini-review, we summarize MMPs categories, functions and the targeted substrates. We then discuss current understanding of the role of MMPs-mediated events, including inflammation reaction, angiogenesis, cellular activities, etc., in ECM remodeling in the context of regenerative medicine.

      • A Way of Candidate Set Selection for Epidemic Routing in Delay Tolerate Networks

        Fuquan Zhang,Kaiqi Chen,Inwhee Joe,Demin Gao,Yunfei Liu 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Future Generation Communi Vol.9 No.10

The radio propagation effect of fading or shadowing between mobile nodes has not been well considered in contact rate. One way to incorporate interference into contact rate is multiplied by probability that the infected node copies the message to the susceptible node during a contact in epidemic routing. In this paper, we develop a model to incorporate the wireless link reliability into contact rate. For application, we proposed a scheme for epidemical delay tolerate network with considering the effects based on the model. Simulation shows that proposed scheme has better performance.

Antiviral effects of Bovine antimicrobial peptide against TGEV in vivo and in vitro

        Xiuli Liang,Xiaojun Zhang,Kaiqi Lian,Xiuhua Tian,Mingliang Zhang,Shiqiong Wang,Cheng Chen,Cunxi Nie,Yun Pan,Fangfang Han,Zhanyong Wei,Wen-Ju Zhang 대한수의학회 2020 Journal of Veterinary Science Vol.21 No.5

Background: In suckling piglets, transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV) causes lethal diarrhea accompanied by high infection and mortality rates, leading to considerable economic losses. This study explored methods of preventing or inhibiting their production. Bovine antimicrobial peptide-13 (APB-13) has antibacterial, antiviral, and immune functions. Objectives: This study analyzed the efficacy of APB-13 against TGEV through in vivo and in vitro experiments. Methods: The effects of APB-13 toxicity and virus inhibition rate on swine testicular (ST) cells were detected using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT). The impact of APB-13 on virus replication was examined through the 50% tissue culture infective dose (TCID50). The mRNA and protein levels were investigated by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction and western blot (WB). Tissue sections were used to detect intestinal morphological development. Results: The safe and effective concentration range of APB-13 on ST cells ranged from 0 to 62.5 μg/mL, and the highest viral inhibitory rate of APB-13 was 74.1%. The log10TCID50 of 62.5 μg/mL APB-13 was 3.63 lower than that of the virus control. The mRNA and protein expression at 62.5 μg/mL APB-13 was significantly lower than that of the virus control at 24 hpi. Piglets in the APB-13 group showed significantly lower viral shedding than that in the virus control group, and the pathological tissue sections of the jejunum morphology revealed significant differences between the groups. Conclusions: APB-13 exhibited good antiviral effects on TGEV in vivo and in vitro.

Correlation between Vitamin B12 and Mental Health in Children and Adolescents: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

        Yongjun Tan,Li Zhou,Kaiqi Gu,Caihong Xie,Yuhan Wang,Lijun Cha,Youlin Wu,Jiani Wang,Xiaosong Song,Xia Chen,Hua Hu,Qin Yang 대한정신약물학회 2023 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.21 No.4

To conduct the association between vitamin B12 and mental health in children and adolescents. Five databases were searched for observational studies in any language reporting on mental health and vitamin B12 levels or intake in children and adolescents from inception to March 18, 2022. Two authors independently extracted data and assessed study quality. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of data were performed. The review was registered in the PROSPERO database (CRD42022345476). Fifty six studies containing 37,932 participants were identified in the review. Vitamin B12 levels were lower in participants with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) (standardized mean difference [SMD], −1.61; 95% confidence interval [95% CI], −2.44 to −0.79; p < 0.001), attention deficit hyperactivity disorders (SMD, −0.39; 95% CI, −0.78 to −0.00; p = 0.049) compared with control group. Vitamin B12 intake were lower in participants with ASDs (SMD, −0.86; 95% CI, −1.48 to −0.24; p = 0.006) compared with control group, but showed no difference between depression group (SMD, −0.06; 95% CI, −0.15 to 0.03; p = 0.17) and the control group. Higher vitamin B12 intake were associated with lower risk of depression (odds ratio [OR], 0.79; 95% CI, 0.63−0.98; p = 0.034) and behavioral problems (OR, 0.83; 95% CI, 0.69−0.99; p = 0.04). The vast majority of included studies supported potential positive influence of vitamin B12 on mental health, and vitamin B12 deficiency may be a reversible cause for some mental health disorders in children and adolescents.

Mechanisms and kinetics of zinc and iron separation enhanced by calcified carbothermal reduction for electric arc furnace dust

        Jiayong Qiu,Shui Yu,Jiugang Shao,Kaiqi Zhu,Dianchun Ju,Chunyu Chen,Dexing Qi,Fei Wang,Ni Bai,Rui Mao,Xiaoming Wang 한국화학공학회 2023 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.40 No.4

A high basicity charge prepared with electric arc furnace dust (EAFD), carbonaceous reducing agent and CaO is proposed. The mechanisms of enhancing separation of zinc and iron by calcified carbothermic reduction of the high basicity charge were analyzed by combining thermal analysis kinetics and experiment. The influences of roasting temperature, carbon ratio (nc/no, molar ratio of carbon in graphitic carbon powder to oxygen in EAFD), and CaO dosage on phase transition and dezincification ratio in EAFD were investigated. The results show that the intermediates Ca2Fe2O5 and Fe0.85−xZnxO can be produced from the zinc-iron separation of zinc ferrate during the process of calcified carbothermic reduction of EAFD. Addition of CaO and C results in the following transition pathways: ZnFe2O4+ CaO→Ca2Fe2O5+ZnO→Ca2Fe2O5+Zn(g)→CaO+Fe; Fe0.85−xZnxO+CaO→Ca2Fe2O5+FeO+ZnO→CaO+Fe+Zn(g). In the range of nc/no of 0.4–1.2 and roasting temperature of 1,000–1,100 °C, the addition of CaO can promote reduction and dezincification. Based on the Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose (KAS) and Coats-Redfern methods, the kinetic results show that the calcified carbothermic reduction process can be divided into three stages: initial stage (α=0–0.3), middle stage (α=0.3–0.45), and final stage (α=0.45–1.0). The average activation energy of the initial stage is 305.01 kJ·mol−1, and the reaction mechanism is one-dimensional diffusion. The average activation energy is 315.67 kJ·mol−1 for the middle stage and 288.22 kJ·mol−1 for the final stage. The chemical reaction equation is found to be the most suitable mechanism in the medium and final stages. It is also found that the addition of CaO can reduce the average activation energy by about 32 kJ·mol−1 and shorten the intermediate stage of the reaction.

Flexible Composite Materials – Between Inorganic Fibers and Organic Polymers

        Guangchao Sun,Qingzhu Liu,Kaikai Si,Jiayu Zhang,Rui Xiong,Kaiqi Liu,Yunfa Chen 한국섬유공학회 2020 Fibers and polymers Vol.21 No.3

In order to develop a flexible composite material that could play a good cushion role for high temperature ceramicmembrane cleaning, we herein report a flexible composite material which could achieve effective buffering to relieve thestress generated by rigid contact and play a certain sealing effect. The coating method is applied to fabricate the compositematerial, which can be produced by multi-layer superposition using high silica fiber fabric and waterborne polyurethane. Theresults show that waterborne polyurethane (WPU) as a binder coating plays a key role in improving the strength by six timescompared to raw materials and maintaining the elasticity of materials. Meanwhile, the thermal degradation mechanism of thecomposites calcined at different temperatures (700-1200 oC) in air atmosphere is investigated. The as-made compositematerials still have good flexibility, and the tensile strength is about 2.4 MPa after calcination at 1000 oC for 80 h. Thisprovides a method to prepare flexible cushion composite materials for ceramic membrane filtration.

The Constructs of the Lazarus and Folkman’s Stress-Appraisal-Coping Theory as Predictors of Subjective Well-Being in College Students During the Ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic

        Jia Rung Wu,Kanako Iwanaga,Fong Chan,Wu Hu,Kaiqi Zhou,Xiangli Chen,Chetwyn C. H. Chan,Timothy N. Tansey 한국상담학회 2023 Journal of Asia Pacific counseling Vol.13 No.2

The COVID-19 pandemic has had significant adverse effects on the mental health of college students around the world. The purpose of the present study was to examine the constructs of Lazarus and Folkman’s stress-appraisal-coping theory as predictors of subjective well-being in Chinese college students during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Participants included 244 Chinese college students. The final hierarchical regression model accounted for 71% of the variance in subjective well-being scores, a large effect size. In the final model, positive stress appraisal, hope, core self-evaluations and resilience remain significant after controlling for other variables. Coping flexibility were significant at the zero-order correlation level and at the step, it was entered into the equation. The effect of perceived stress dissipated in the presence of the positive person-environment contextual variables. Findings provide strong empirical support for the use of positive person-environment contextual variables as a stress management and subjective well-being model for college students during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Findings can be used to guide counselors, psychologists, and psychiatrists in college health services in the selection of brief screening psychological instruments and empirically supported psychosocial and counseling interventions to help college students develop character strengths, positive attitudes, and coping skills to effectively cope with COVID-related challenges and stressors and possible future outbreaks of novel contagious diseases and crisis situations.
