Mechanical, Thermal, and Swelling Properties of Cross-linked Hydrogels Based on Oxidized Cellulose Nanowhiskers and Chitosan/poly(vinyl alcohol) Blends

        Chao Sheng,Yiming Zhou,Xinyu Zhang,Guoxin Xue 한국섬유공학회 2018 Fibers and polymers Vol.19 No.10

Cross-linked hydrogels of chitosan/poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/oxidized cellulose nanowhiskers (CNWs) were prepared by using oxidized CNWs as a cross-linker. The effects of the oxidation level of CNWs on the swelling behavior, thermal stability, viscoelastic properties and compressive strength of the hydrogels were studied. Chemical cross-links, hydrogen bonds, as well as nanofiller reinforcement between the three materials played a major role in determining the properties of the hydrogels. Swelling test results showed that the incorporation of oxidized CNWs decreased the water absorbability of the hydrogels due to the increase in cross-linking degree. Viscoelastic properties of the hydrogels with oxidized CNWs was increased by 537 % in storage modulus, from 4.65 kPa to 29.6 kPa. Compressive strength of 181.5 kPa at 50 % strain was observed from the cross-linked hydrogels, compared with 21.2 kPa of the non-cross-linked hydrogels. The thermal experiments showed that the chemical cross-linking slightly increase the resistance toward thermal degradation of the hydrogels.

Cultural creative design industries play animportant role in breaking through thepredicament when products are short ofdistinctive features. A thorough study oncultural creative industries has not been donein terms of sustainable development due toprevious focus on environment policy. Throughparticipation in the survey and in-depthinterviews with the temple and businesses;first we learned that the tourists joined thepilgrimage tended to rubberneck and pray andmost of the tourists purchased the localproducts of Dajia. Second, in regard ofinnovation of traditional culture, there is nosufficient integration of tourism, transportationand accommodation facilities which makes itdifficult for the tourists to stay for a longerperiod. Third, in terms of cultural creativity, the businesses agreed on the positive benefitcultural creative products have brought to thelocal economy although some products havenot been changed to keep the traditionalculture.

      • Research on Fracture of Aluminum Foil in Microscale Laser Peen Forming

        Chao Zheng,Sheng Sun,Jing Liu,Zhong Ji 한국소성가공학회 2010 기타자료 Vol.2010 No.6

A novel numerical method for dynamic fracture in microscale laser peen forming (μLPF) of aluminum foils was presented and the role of the die diameter on fracture behavior at the ultra high strain rate was investigated via both experimental and numerical methods. μLPF is a process in which the plastic deformation is generated through laserinduced shock wave and compressive residual stresses can be imparted to improve the fatigue life of micro parts. During μLPF, the pressure exerted on the target is higher than 1 GPa and the strain rate is greater than 10? s-1, so the mechanical behavior of materials in this dynamic process is very different from that under static or quasi-static conditions. In the present study, the finite element method with grain and grain boundary elements was used to analyze the μLPF process of aluminum foils with a thickness of 60 μm. The onset and propagation of crack were simulated in this way that the specified nodes were tied together until the equivalent plastic strain exceeded a certain value. Under a given value of plastic strain, the influence of die diameters of 0.6, 1.0, and 1.6 mm on the fracture mode of the material was predicted. A series of experiments were carried out to verify the numerical model. The geometrical morphologies of fracture regions were observed via optical microscope and scan electron microscope. In results from both experiments and simulations, the size of the die diameter affects the location of the fracture: (I) Fracture appeared at the entrance of the die for die diameters of 0.6 and 1.0 mm. (II) Fracture occurred near the centre of the formed dome for 1.6 mm die diameter. The generation mechanism of two fracture modes was explained. This work provides a preliminary insight into the fracture behavior of materials under the ultra high strain rate and lays the ground work for more in-depth simulations in the future study.

A Neurofeedback Protocol for Executive Function to Reduce Depression and Rumination: A Controlled Study

        Sheng-Hsiang Yu,Chao-Yuan Tseng,Wei-Lun Lin 대한정신약물학회 2020 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.18 No.3

Objective: Rumination is a maladaptive emotional-regulation strategy that is strongly associated with depression. Impaired executive function can lead to difficulties in disengaging from rumination, thus exacerbating depression. In this study, we inspect an electroencephalograph neurofeedback protocol that enhance the target peak alpha frequency (PAF) activation in the prefrontal region. We examine the protocol’s effects on depression and rumination. Methods: We randomly assigned 30 dysphoric participants into either the neurofeedback training group or the control group. We then evaluated their depression, rumination, and executive function at pre- and posttraining so as to examine the effects of the neurofeedback. Results: The results show that this neurofeedback protocol can specifically enhance participants’ target PAF. The participants’ executive function performances significantly improved after undergoing 20 neurofeedback sessions. Compared with those in the control group, those in the neurofeedback group had significantly fewer depressive symptoms and significantly reduced rumination. Moreover, as target PAF and executive function improved, depression and rumination both declined. Conclusion: Our data are in line with those of previous studies that indicated a relationship between upper-band alpha activity and executive function. This PAF neurofeedback can effectively enhance participants’ executive function, which can reduce rumination and ameliorate depression. This neurofeedback training is based on basic cognitive neuroscience, so it sheds light on depression’s pathological factors and etiology

      • Event-Triggered Media Stream Bandwidth Adjustment in IoT-Based Home Networks

        Chao-Yu Hsu,Chin-Lin Hu,Kun-Sheng Huang,Yung-Hui Chen,Jiun-Long Huang 한국통신학회 2020 한국통신학회 APNOMS Vol.2020 No.09

As the coming maturity of Internet of Things, many home-networked devices with various sensors are deployed in residential environments. It is important to accommodate many devices that compete for bandwidth allocation to transmit data inwards and outwards through a certain home network domain. This paper proposes a novel mechanism which can adjust media stream qualities and transmission bandwidth allocations to different devices. This mechanism is agile against dynamic changes of data workload and finite network resources between inside and outside of a home network. Practical demonstration exhibits that the effects are able to maintain differentiated media transfer services in IoT-based home networks.

Time-series Independent Component Analysis-aided Fault Detection for Running Gear Systems

        Chao Cheng,Sheng Yang,Yu Song,Gang Liu 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2022 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.20 No.9

By dealing with the non-Gaussian measurement and slow-change faults in running gear systems, this paper presents a fault detection (FD) scheme named time-series independent component analysis (TsICA), where the time-series characteristic is taken into account. Time-series algorithms can extract slow-change information in the data. The advantages of the proposed method are: 1) it can improve the FD power; 2) it considers the information in the data 3) it is suitable for non-Gaussian systems; 4) it is sensitive to slow-change faults; 5) it can effectively shorten the first time of fault detection. The feasibility of the proposed scheme is verified through a case study on running gear systems.

Evaluation of the sp3/sp2 ratio of DLC films by RF-PECVD and its quantitative relationship with optical band gap

        Sheng Hongxun,Xiong Wenwen,Zheng Songsheng,Chen Chao,He Song,Cheng Qijin 한국탄소학회 2021 Carbon Letters Vol.31 No.5

DLC has been attractive as semiconductor materials for solar cell due to its biological friendliness, fexible microstructures, and especially its tunable band gap. In order to fabricate high-efciency multiband gap solar cell, it is important to control the sp3 / sp2 bonds ratio of DLC flm corresponding to optical band gap (Eg). There are many references reporting the relations among the fabrication conditions, Eg, sp3 /sp2 , and ID/IG. However, a more comprehensive database is needed for controllable fabrication. Especially, the quantitative relationship of sp3 /sp2 ratio to Eg of DLC flm by PECVD is unclear. In this paper, 36 sets of DLC flms were fabricated by RF-PECVD. Characterization methods of XPS, Raman spectroscopy, and IR absorption have been used to determine the sp3 /sp2 ratio of DLC flms. UV/visible light absorption method has applied to evaluate Eg. The Eg obtained is in the range 1.45–3.0 eV. Our results agree well with the references. The XPS spectra gives a linear relationship as Eg=− 0.161 (±0.136)+26.095 (±1.704) · {sp3 (XPS)/sp2 }, the Raman spectra shows a linear function that Eg=1.327 (±0.046)+0.428 (±0.036) · (ID/IG), as well as the FTIR analysis demonstrates that Eg=− 0.492 (±0.093)+0.464 (±0.044) · {sp3 (FTIR)/sp2 }.

      • Fibulin-5 is a Prognostic Marker that Contributes to Proliferation and Invasion of Human Glioma Cells

        Sheng, Xu-Dong,Chen, Hu,Wang, Hui,Ding, Zhi-Bin,Xu, Gang-Zhu,Zhang, Jun-Feng,Lu, Wen-Chao,Wu, Tao,Zhao, Ling Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.2

Fibulin-5 has recently been considered as a potential tumor suppressor in human cancers. Several studies have shown that it is down-regulated in a variety of tumor types and inhibits tumor growth and metastasis. This study was aimed to investigate the clinical significance of fibulin-5 in glioma and its role in cell proliferation and invasion. We found that the expression of fibulin-5 in glioma tissues was significantly lower than those in normal brain (NB) tissues. Negative expression was significantly correlated with advanced clinical stage (grade III+IV). Furthermore, Fibulin-5 negative expression was correlated with a shorter overall survival of glioma patients. Multivariate Cox repression analysis indicated that fibulin-5 was an independent factor for predicting overall survival of glioma patients. Overexpression obviously inhibited cell proliferation in U251 and U87 cells. Furthermore, it significantly reduced the number of migrating and invading glioma cells. In conclusion, impaired expression of fibulin-5 is correlated with the advanced tumor stage in glioma. Otherwise, Fibulin-5 is an independent prognostic marker for predicting overall survival of glioma patients. Mechanistically, it may function as a tumor suppressor via inhibiting cell proliferation and invasion in gliomas.

Family with Sequence Similarity 83 Member H Promotes the Viability and Metastasis of Cervical Cancer Cells and Indicates a Poor Prognosis

        Chao Chen,Hua-Feng Li,Yu-Jie Hu,Meng-Jie Jiang,Qing-Sheng Liu,Jia Zhou 연세대학교의과대학 2019 Yonsei medical journal Vol.60 No.7

Purpose: Family with sequence similarity 83 member H (FAM83H) plays key roles in tumorigenesis. However, the specific rolesof FAM83H in cervical cancer (CC) have not been well studied. Materials and Methods: The RNA-seq data of 306 CC tissues and three normal samples downloaded from The Cancer GenomeAtlas were used to analyze the expression of FAM83H. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to draw survival curves. Associationsbetween FAM83H expression and clinicopathological factors were analyzed by chi-square test. Cox proportional hazards modelwas used to analyze prognostic factors. Loss-of-function assays were conducted to discover the biological functions of FAM83Hin cell proliferation, colony formation, invasion, and migration. Real-time Quantitative Reverse Transcription PCR (qRT-PCR)and Western blotting were used to measure the expression levels of FAM83H in CC cell lines. Results: Our results demonstrated that FAM83H is overexpressed in CC tissues and that high FAM83H expression is associatedwith worse overall survival (OS). High FAM83H expression in CC was associated with clinical stage, pathologic tumor, and pathologicnode. Univariate analysis suggested that FAM83H expression was significantly related to the OS of CC patients. Althoughmultivariate analysis showed that FAM83H expression was not an independent prognostic factor for the OS of CC patients, the effectsof FAM83H on CC cell growth and motility was significant. Loss-of-function experiments demonstrated that knockdown ofFAM83H inhibited proliferation, colony formation, migration, and invasion of CC cells by inactivating PI3K/AKT pathway. Conclusion: FAM83H might play a crucial role in CC progression and could act as a novel therapeutic target in CC.
