Objectives: This study aimed to demonstrate the bone mineral density (BMD) and body composition in postmenopausal women with knee osteoarthritis (OA) who underwent surgical treatment, such as total knee arthroplasty, osteotomy, or meniscectomy. Methods: A total of 254 women with OA aged 50 years who underwent surgical treatment were enrolled in this study. We evaluated obesity-related factors, muscle components, and BMD using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Results: No significant differences were noted in the BMD of the hip joint between the symptomatic side of the leg with knee OA and the contralateral side. However, when comparing the BMD of each component, the results indicated a significantly higher BMD in the obesity group based on body mass index (BMI). When defining sarcopenic obesity (SO) using various indicators of obesity (BMI, the estimated visceral adipose tissue area, android/gynoid ratio, and total body fat percentage), the prevalence of SO in the OA group who underwent surgical treatment ranged from 22.0% to 49.6%.Conclusions: This study investigated obesity-related factors in patients with advanced knee OA who underwent surgery, revealing a high prevalence of overweight/obese individuals, the presence of SO, and a complex relationship between obesity, body composition, and bone density, highlighting the potential protective effects of weight-bearing on bone health while exploring the impact of sarcopenia on bone density differences in the context of OA. Depending on various definitions of obesity, diverse proportions of SO in patients with OA have been observed, and further detailed research is required to understand its impact on the condition.

<P>Resistive switching (RS) memory devices are fabricated using solution processed graphene-zinc oxide (G-ZnO) and polystyrene (PS). G-ZnO is synthesized through solution processing at a low temperature. G-ZnO or G-ZnO:PS blended solution in a ratio of 1:5 by weight is spin-coated as the RS layer, and aluminum (Al) is adopted as the top and bottom electrode. Through UV-visible absorption, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive diffraction, and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, G-ZnO and G-ZnO:PS films are confirmed as well-blended thin films. In the RS operation, the on/off ratio of low resistive state (LRS) and high resistive state (HRS) of G-ZnO device is approximately 10(4), which is increases to 10(8) in G-ZnO:PS device. PS, the insulating polymer, helps to improve the on/off ratio by reducing the off current in HRS. By analyzing the I-V curves in the HRS of G-ZnO device, the conduction mechanism is changed from ohmic conduction to space charge limited current (SCLC) in G-ZnO, while G-ZnO:PS shows the formation of a conductive path in insulators.</P>

김채원(Chaewon Kim),정유경(Yugyeong Jung),정규원(Gyuwon Jung),우운택(Woontack Wo),이의진(Uichine Lee) 한국HCI학회 2021 한국HCI학회 학술대회 Vol.2021 No.1
Toward Natural and Intelligible Speech Synthesis : An Empirical Study on Transfer Learning
Chaewon Kang,Jeewoo Yoon,Daeun Lee,Migyeong Kang,Seohyun Lim,Juho Jung,Sejung Son,Jinyoung Han 한국방송·미디어공학회 2023 한국방송공학회 학술발표대회 논문집 Vol.2023 No.6
To synthesize natural and intelligible speech with a small amount of data, transfer learning with well-maintained and pre-trained data has been known to be useful. However, little attention has been paid to answer the following research questions with empirically-grounded evidence, How much pre-trained (source) speech data (e.g., 10 K utterances or 10 hours) used in transfer learning is enough for generating natural and intelligible speech? and For generating natural and intelligible speech, how much (target) speech data should at least be provided?, which are essential for the quality of speech synthesis. To answer these questions, this paper conducts extensive experiments on speech synthesis with multiple source and target data with different lengths, speakers, and languages. We show that intelligible and natural speech can be synthesized with only 500 utterances of target data using transfer learning. Our work also reveals that at least 5000 utterances of source pre-trained data are required to synthesize decent speech.
A Recent Review of the Management of Postmenopausal Symptoms in Breast Cancer Survivors
Chaewon Kim,Yoojin Na,Sanghee Lee,Jung Yoon Park,Youn-Jee Chung,Jaeyen Song,Mee-Ran Kim 대한폐경학회 2023 대한폐경학회지 Vol.29 No.3
The treatment strategy for postmenopausal symptoms resulting from estrogen deficiency in breast cancer survivors receiving endocrine therapy should differ from that in normal women. Several nonhormonal pharmacological therapies can be used to treat vasomotor symptoms. Cognitive-behavioral therapy can help alleviate psychophysiological symptoms, including depression and sleep disorders. Topical vaginal estrogen and moisturizers may aid in treating genitourinary symptoms. Additionally, chronic conditions must be individually managed. Prevention of osteoporosis should always be included in the management, and physicians should be alert to possible cardiovascular risk and cognitive function changes.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A highly efficient transparent heater was intensively studied by optimizing a solution-processed indium tin oxide nanoparticles (ITO-NPs) film with oxygen vacancy control. To control the oxygen vacancy, ITO-NPs layers coated onto glass substrates was annealed under various atmospheric conditions such as vacuum, air, and argon (Ar). In result, all the solution-processed ITO films achieved high transparency of more than 96% in the visible range (500–730 nm) with respect to the glass substrate. As well, sheet resistance (Rs) decreased with increasing temperature and the lowest Rs (309.4 Ω/□) was achieved by annealing at 600 °C under Ar atmosphere. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis revealed that the highest concentration of oxygen vacancies occurred under Ar atmosphere resulting in the highest carrier mobility and lowest Rs. Furthermore, application of the ITO-NPs films to transparent heater was attempted. In result, when applying 15 V, ITO-NPs film annealed under Ar atmosphere, showing the lowest Rs, exhibited the highest temperature (215.1 °C) among the samples. Also, highly thermal efficiency of 162.9 °C/(W/cm2) were achieved from the optimized sample. Thus, we suggest that the optimized ITO-NPs film was applicable to highly efficient transparent heater.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Highly efficient transparent heater was made with solution-processed ITO-NPs film. </LI> <LI> Oxygen vacancy of ITO film was optimized with heat-treatment under Ar atmosphere. </LI> <LI> The lowest Rs(309.4 Ω/□) and highest T550(96%) were achieved with Ar atmosphere. </LI> <LI> High heat-generating temperature (215.1 °C) was achieved with Ar atmosphere. </LI> <LI> Highly thermal efficiency (162.9 °C/(W/cm2)) was achieved with Ar atmosphere. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
