Developing an approach for fast estimation of range of ion in interaction with material using the Geant4 toolkit in combination with the neural network

        Moshkbar-Bakhshayesh Khalil,Mohtashami Soroush 한국원자력학회 2022 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.54 No.11

Precise modelling of the interaction of ions with materials is important for many applications including material characterization, ion implantation in devices, thermonuclear fusion, hadron therapy, secondary particle production (e.g. neutron), etc. In this study, a new approach using the Geant4 toolkit in combination with the Bayesian regularization (BR) learning algorithm of the feed-forward neural network (FFNN) is developed to estimate the range of ions in materials accurately and quickly. The different incident ions at different energies are interacted with the target materials. The Geant4 is utilized to model the interactions and to calculate the range of the ions. Afterward, the appropriate architecture of the FFNN-BR with the relevant input features is utilized to learn the modelled ranges and to estimate the new ranges for the new cases. The notable achievements of the proposed approach are: 1- The range of ions in different materials is given as quickly as possible and the time required for estimating the ranges can be neglected (i.e. less than 0.01 s by a typical personal computer). 2- The proposed approach can generalize its ability for estimating the new untrained cases. 3- There is no need for a pre-made lookup table for the estimation of the range values.

The ensemble approach in comparison with the diverse feature selection techniques for estimating NPPs parameters using the different learning algorithms of the feed-forward neural network

Khalil Moshkbar-Bakhshayesh 한국원자력학회 2021 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.53 No.12

Several reasons such as no free lunch theorem indicate that there is not a universal Feature selection (FS)technique that outperforms other ones. Moreover, some approaches such as using synthetic dataset, inpresence of large number of FS techniques, are very tedious and time consuming task. In this study totackle the issue of dependency of estimation accuracy on the selected FS technique, a methodology basedon the heterogeneous ensemble is proposed. The performance of the major learning algorithms of neuralnetwork (i.e. the FFNN-BR, the FFNN-LM) in combination with the diverse FS techniques (i.e. the NCA, theF-test, the Kendall's tau, the Pearson, the Spearman, and the Relief) and different combination techniquesof the heterogeneous ensemble (i.e. the Min, the Median, the Arithmetic mean, and the Geometric mean)are considered. The target parameters/transients of Bushehr nuclear power plant (BNPP) are examined asthe case study. The results show that the Min combination technique gives the more accurate estimation. Therefore, if the number of FS techniques is m and the number of learning algorithms is n, by the heterogeneous ensemble, the search space for acceptable estimation of the target parameters may bereduced from n m to n 1. The proposed methodology gives a simple and practical approach for morereliable and more accurate estimation of the target parameters compared to the methods such as the useof synthetic dataset or trial and error methods

Sandwich Intermediate Sitting-atop Complexation between Free Base meso-tetraarylporphyrins and Tellurium(IV) chloride

Dehghani, Hossein,Bakhshayesh, Sara,Shaterian, Maryam,Motamedi, Leila Korean Chemical Society 2010 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.31 No.4

Free base meso-tetraarylporphyrins ($H_2T(X)PP$) react with tellurium(IV) chloride ($TeCl_4$) in mild conditions for formation sandwich intermediate sitting-atop (i-SAT) complexes, [$TeCl_4(H_2T(X)PP)_2$]. $^1H$ NMR, $^{13}C$ NMR, UV-vis, FT-IR and elemental analysis were used for characterization of the products. In the proposed structure of the i-SAT complexes, four pyrroles of each porphyrin ring are tilted alternatively up and down and this appropriates suitable orientation of lone pairs of two pyrrolenine nitrogens for electron donation to a tellurium center. $^1H$ NMR and FT-IR results showed that in the produced complex, hydrogen atoms of porphyrin macrocycles remained on the pyrrole nitrogens.

Serum interleukin-1beta and tumor necrosis factor-alpha in febrile seizures: is there a link?

        Abolfazl Mahyar,Parviz Ayazi,Reza Orangpour,Mohammad Mahdi Daneshi-Kohan,Mohammad Reza Sarokhani,Amir Javadi,Mousa Talebi-Bakhshayesh 대한소아청소년과학회 2014 Clinical and Experimental Pediatrics (CEP) Vol.57 No.10

Purpose: Febrile seizures are induced by fever and are the most common type of seizures in children. Although numerous studies have been performed on febrile seizures, their pathophysiology remainsunclear. Recent studies have shown that cytokines may play a role in the pathogenesis of febrileseizures. The present study was conducted to identify potential links between serum interleukin-1beta(IL-1β), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), and febrile seizures. Methods: Ninety-two patients with simple or complex febrile seizures (46 patients per seizure type),and 46 controls with comparable age, sex, and severity of temperature were enrolled. Results: The median concentrations of serum IL-1β in the simple, complex febrile seizure, and controlgroups were 0.05, 0.1, and 0.67 pg/mL, respectively (P=0.001). Moreover, the median concentrationsof TNF-α in the simple, complex febrile seizure, and control groups were 2.5, 1, and 61.5 pg/mL,respectively (P=0.001). Furthermore, there were significant differences between the case groups inserum IL-1β and TNF-α levels (P<0.05). Conclusion: Unlike previous studies, our study does not support the hypothesis that increased IL-1βand TNF-α production is involved in the pathogenesis of febrile seizures.

Serum levels of interleukin-6 and interleukin-8 as diagnostic markers of acute pyelonephritis in children

        Abolfazl Mahyar,Parviz Ayazi,Mohammad Reza Maleki,Mohammad Mahdi Daneshi-Kohan,Hamid Reza Sarokhani,Hassan Jahani Hashemi,Mousa Talebi-Bakhshayesh 대한소아청소년과학회 2013 Clinical and Experimental Pediatrics (CEP) Vol.56 No.5

Purpose: Early diagnosis and treatment of acute pyelonephritis in children is of special importance in order to prevent serious complications. This study was conducted to determine the diagnostic value of serum interleukin (IL)-6 and IL-8 in children with acute pyelonephritis. Methods: Eighty-seven patients between 1 month to 12 years old with urinary tract infection (UTI)were divided into 2 groups based on the result of 99m-technetium dimercapto-succinic acid renal scan:acute pyelonephritis (n=37) and lower UTI (n=50) groups. White blood cell (WBC) count, neutrophil (Neutl)count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactive protein (CRP) concentration, platelet count, and serum IL-6 and IL-8 concentrations of both groups were measured and compared . Results: There was a significant difference between two groups regarding WBC count, Neutl count,ESR, and CRP concentration (P<0.05). In addition, the difference between the two groups regarding serum IL-6 and IL-8 concentrations was not significant (IL-6, 60 and 35.4 pg/mL and IL-8, 404 and 617 pg/mL, respectively). The sensitivity and specificity of serum IL-6 and IL-8 for diagnosis of acute pyelonephritis were 73%, 42% and 78%, 32%, respectively. Sensitivity, specificity, negative and positive predictive values of serum IL-6 and IL-8 were less than those of acute phase serum reactants such as CRP. Conclusion: This study showed that there was no significant difference between acute pyelonephritis and lower UTI groups regarding serum IL-6 and IL-8 levels. Therefore, despite confirming results of previous studies, it seems that IL-6 and IL-8 are not suitable markers for differentiating between acute pyelonephritis and lower UTI.
