Investigation of human papillomavirus prevalence in married women and molecular characterization and phylogenetic analysis of the virus

        Ayse Erdem Yayla,Berrin Goktug Kadioglu,Ayse Aydin,Osman Aktas 대한산부인과학회 2019 Obstetrics & Gynecology Science Vol.62 No.4

ObjectiveHuman papillomaviruses (HPVs) are among the agents responsible for infection and cancer of the skin and mucousmembranes in the human body. The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency and type distribution of HPVsin married female patients with gynecological complaints, who had visited the Maternity Hospital in Erzurum, Turkey. MethodsIn this study, 263 cervical swab samples were taken from married women using the Pap smear method and wereinvestigated for positive reactivity against HPV. The L1 gene region of HPV was investigated using molecular methods. For this purpose, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays and sequence analysis of positive samples were performed. Phylogenetic analyses were performed using a bioinformatics approach after sequencing. ResultsHPV-DNA was detected in 17 (6.5%) samples. Highest positive reactivity to HPV-DNA was found in the 35–44 agegroup at 9.2%. Fourteen out of seventeen positive samples were included in the phylogenetic analysis. All isolatesclustered in the Alphapapillomavirus genus. Six samples were found to be HPV 70 positive, four were HPV 16 positive, and the rest were HPV 54, 72, 81, and 114 positive. When genotyping data were evaluated according to the riskgroup, we found that 28.6% of the 14 samples were found to be high risk-HPV, and 71.4% were low risk-HPV. ConclusionAs per our knowledge, this is the first report on the phylogenetic analysis of HPV genotypes isolated from women inTurkey. The prevalence of low- and-high risk HPV was determined in married women in Erzurum, and these resultscontribute to the epidemiological data on the distribution of HPV types for this region.

Investigation of the effects of temporomandibular joint arthrocentesis on blood volume of the retinal structures

Keskinruzgar, Aydin,Cankal, Dilek Aynur,Koparal, Mahmut,Simsek, Ali,Karadag, Ayse Sevgi The Korean Dental Society of Anesthsiology 2019 Journal of Dental Anesthesia and Pain Medicine Vol.19 No.1

Objective: Arthrocentesis is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that is used to alleviate the symptoms of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of arthrocentesis on the blood supply to the retinal structures. Materials and Methods: Arthrocentesis was performed on 20 patients with TMJ disorders, and choroidal thickness (CT) in patients was measured to evaluate retinal blood circulation. The blood volume of the retinal structures was evaluated ipsilaterally before and after arthrocentesis, and these measurements were then compared with measurements obtained from the contralateral side. Results: Before arthrocentesis, there were no differences in retinal blood volumes between the ipsilateral and contralateral sides (P = 0.96). When ipsilateral CT measurements taken before and after arthrocentesis were compared, retinal blood supply was found to have significantly decreased after arthrocentesis (P = 0.04). When contralateral CT measurements taken before and after arthrocentesis were compared, retinal blood supply was also found to have decreased after arthrocentesis, but not significantly (P = 0.19). Conclusion: The solution of local anesthesia with epinephrine applied before the arthrocentesis procedure was found to reduce the blood volume of the retinal structures. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study that has investigated the blood volume of the retinal structures following arthrocentesis.

Imipenem-Resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa : Risk Factors for Nosocomial Infections

        Pinar Onguru,Ayse Erbay,Hurrem Bodur,Gulseren Baran,Esragul Akinci,Neriman Balaban,Mustafa Aydin Cevik 대한의학회 2008 Journal of Korean medical science Vol.23 No.6

The aim of this study was to determine the risk factors for nosocomial infections of imipenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (IRPA). A prospective case-control study was performed at a tertiary care hospital in Ankara from January to December 2004. The patients with nosocomial P. aeruginosa infection were included in the study. The features of the patients with IRPA infections were compared to those with imipenem-sensitive P. aeruginosa (ISPA) infections. Only the first isolation of P. aeruginosa was considered. Nosocomial infections were defined according to Center for Disease Control (CDC) criteria. IRPA was isolated from 75 (44.1%) patients, and ISPA was isolated from 95 (55.9%) patients during the study period. IRPA were most frequently isolated from endotracheal aspirate (19%) cultures (p= 0.048), whereas ISPA were most frequently isolated from urine (28%) cultures (p= 0.023). In multivariate analysis, a longer duration of hospital stay until P. aeruginosa isolation (odds ratio [OR], 1.027; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.002-1.054, p=0.034), arterial catheter administration (OR, 2.508; 95% CI, 1.062-5.920, p=0.036), vancomycin (OR, 2.882; 95% CI, 1.130-7.349, p=0.027), piperacillin-tazobactam (OR, 6.425; 95% CI, 2.187-18.875, p=0.001), and imipenem (OR, 3.580; 95% CI, 1.252- 10.245, p=0.017) treatment within the 14 days before isolation of IRPA were independently associated with imipenem resistance. It was concluded that treatment with imipenem, vancomycin and piperacillin-tazobactam were major risk factors for IRPA infections in hospitalized patients. The nosocomial occurrence of IRPA was also strongly related to the duration of hospital stay, arterial catheter administration.

Effects of oleaster flour supplementation in total phenolic contents, antioxidant capacities and their bioaccessibilities of cookies

        Yasemin Sahan,Emine Aydin,Ayse Inkaya Dundar,Dilek Dulger Altiner,Guler Celik,Duygu Gocmen 한국식품과학회 2019 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.28 No.5

In presented study total phenolic contents, antioxidant capacities and their bioaccessibilities from cookies supplemented with oleaster flour were investigated. Oleaster flours (OFs) were produced using two different methods (peeled oleaster flour: POF and unpeeled oleaster flour: UPOF) from two different genotypes. OFs were used to replace wheat flour in the cookie formulation (control) at the levels of 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25% (w/w). According to the results, enrichment of OFs clearly increased total phenolic contents, antioxidant capacities and bioaccessibilities of cookies. The highest bioaccessible antioxidant capacities (ABTS, CUPRAC, and FRAP) of the samples were obtained from cookie samples enriched with 25% UPOF-1. In conclusion, the increases in phenolic contents, antioxidant capacities, and bioaccessibilities from cookies supplemented with OFs suggest the potential enhancement of beneficial health effect of cookie due to increased content of bioactive compounds present in oleaster flour.
