Thin film ethanol sensors made from ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ decorated with multiwall carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs) were manufactured by the electron beam deposition method. The morphology of the decorated ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$/MWCNTs (25:1 weight ratios) nanocomposite powder was investigated using the scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction techniques. The thickness of thin films has been determined from ellipsometric measurements. The response of manufactured sensors was investigated at different temperatures of the sensor work body and concentration of gas vapors. Good response of prepared sensors to ethanol vapors already at work body temperature of $150^{\circ}C$ was shown.
Effect of N-acetyl-L-cysteine on human chronic myeloid leukemia cells KCL22 treated with mitomycin C
Simonyan, Anna,Hovhannisyan, Galina,Aroutiounian, Rouben,Kim, Jin Kyu The Ecological Society of Korea 2014 Journal of Ecology and Environment Vol.37 No.1
The effectiveness of N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) to protect blood cells against Mitomycin C (MMC) induced genotoxicity was investigated in human chronic myeloid leukemia cells (KCL22) using the alkaline comet assay. The comet assay was selected as sensitive and rapid method for analysis of DNA damage and repair in individual cells. NAC treatment alone did not produce any damage in KCL22 cell. But NAC was found to be effective in reducing genotoxic damage in KCL22 cells exposed to MMC. These results confirm the literature data that, given the safety and ability to reduce DNA damage. NAC may be useful to prevent drug-mediated genotoxicity.
Strain-induced islands and nanostructures shape transition's chronology on InAs (100) surface

The self-assembled strain-induced sub-micrometric islands and nanostructures are grown from In-As-Sb-P quaternary liquid phase on InAs (100) substrates in Stranski-Krastanow growth mode. Two samples are under consideration. The first sample consists of unencapsulated islands and lens-shape quantum dots (QDs) grown from expressly inhomogeneous liquid phase. The second sample is an n-InAs/p-InAsSbP heterostructure with QDs embedded in the p-n junction interface. The morphology, size and shape of the structures are investigated by high-resolution scanning electron (SEM) and transmission electron (TEM) microscopy. It is shown that islands, as they decrease in size, undergo shape transitions. Particularly, as the volume decreases, the following succession of shape transitions are detected: sub-micrometric truncated pyramid, {111} facetted pyramid, {111} and partially {105} facetted pyramid, completely unfacetted "pre-pyramid", hemisphere, lens-shaped QD, which then evolves again to nano-pyramid. A critical size of $5{\pm}2nm$ for the shape transformation of InAsSbP-based lens-shaped QD to nano-pyramid is experimentally measured and theoretically evaluated.
Quantum modulation of the channel charge and distributed capacitance of double gated nanosize FETs
Gasparyan, Ferdinand V.,Aroutiounian, Vladimir M. Techno-Press 2015 Advances in nano research Vol.3 No.1
The structure represents symmetrical metal electrode (gate 1) - front $SiO_2$ layer - n-Si nanowire FET - buried $SiO_2$ layer - metal electrode (gate 2). At the symmetrical gate voltages high conductive regions near the gate 1 - front $SiO_2$ and gate 2 - buried $SiO_2$ interfaces correspondingly, and low conductive region in the central region of the NW are formed. Possibilities of applications of nanosize FETs at the deep inversion and depletion as a distributed capacitance are demonstrated. Capacity density is an order to ${\sim}{\mu}F/cm^2$. The charge density, it distribution and capacity value in the nanowire can be controlled by a small changes in the gate voltages. at the non-symmetrical gate voltages high conductive regions will move to corresponding interfaces and low conductive region will modulate non-symmetrically. In this case source-drain current of the FET will redistributed and change current way. This gives opportunity to investigate surface and bulk transport processes in the nanosize inversion channel.

Today the biosafety evaluation, a common problem of vital importance, is basedon internationally proved test-systems, standards and techniques. The paradigm of biosafetyincludes multidisciplinary approach, a combination of physical, chemical and biological tests tomonitor the environmental level of pollutants and needs to be improved by modern approaches. The genetic risk of environmental pollutions has long been studied by many researchers. In thisstudy, used was the known sensitive plant test-system, clones of plant Tradescantia (spiderwort)able to detect gene mutations (frequency of mutational events and formation of micronuclei) incombination with chemical and, in some instances, with radiological measurements. In addition, male gametophyte generation of fruit trees was applied as bioindicators of genotoxicity. Theobtained results did not show any significant increase along with wind direction. As for the malegametophyte assay, the fertility of the investigated fruit-trees near to NPP did not significantlydiffer from that of the control point. The influence of the NPP on the male generative system of theinvestigated taxa of fruit trees for the investigated year was not revealed. The system describedneeds to be expanded by species of interest (human) as there is a difficulty to transfer the revealeddose correlations to humans. The development of this idea includes various levels: population(epidemiological studies), individual, cellular, molecular (DNA), etc.

Mycotoxins such as aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), ochratoxin A (OTA) and zearalenone (ZEA) are widespread contaminants of food and feedstuffs. It is very likely, that humans and animals are always exposed to mixtures of mycotoxins rather than to individual compounds. Therefore, risk assessments should consider mixture toxicity data. In the present study the combination of AFB1, OTA and ZEA was tested for genotoxicity in rat bone marrow and blood leukocytes after 15, 30 and 60 days treatment. The level of DNA damage was determined by the comet assay. The tail intensity and Olive tail moment in leukocytes and bone marrow cells were significantly higher than in controls. At the same time, the level of DNA damage in bone marrow cells was higher than in leukocytes. The data suggests that prolonged exposure to mycotoxins combination through food consumption can induce DNA damage contributing to the harmful effects in vivo.

The continuum elasticity model is applied to investigate quantitatively the growth features and nucleation mechanism of quantum dots, nanopits, and joint QDs-nanopits structures in GaInAlN quasyternary systems. We have shown that for GaInAlN material system at the critical strain of ${\varepsilon}^*=0.039$ the sign of critical energy and volume is changed. We assume that at ${\varepsilon}={\varepsilon}^*$ the mechanism of the nucleation is changed from the growth of quantum dots to the nucleation of nanopits. Obviously, at small misfit (${\varepsilon}$ < ${\varepsilon}^*$), the bulk nucleation mechanism dominates. However, at ${\varepsilon}$ > ${\varepsilon}^*$, when the energy barrier becomes negative as well as a larger misfit provides a low-barrier path for the formation of dislocations, the nucleation of pits becomes energetically preferable. The free energy of mixing for $Ga_{1-x-y}In_xAl_yN$ quasiternary system was calculated and studied and its 3D sketch was plotted.
