Anh Son Hoang,Thi Huong Tran,Hong Nhung Nguyen,Hong Son Vu,Thanh Phong Vo,Chi Phan,Thanh Vinh Nguyen 한국화학공학회 2015 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.32 No.8
A new method for semi-synthesis of alkyl salicylaldoximes from cardanol is reported. Cardanol was extracted from decarboxylation process of cashew nutshell liquid, an abundant agricultural by-product. Molecular structures, physical and chemical properties of cardanol and oxime derivatives were confirmed by spectroscopic analyses. The produced oximes were successfully employed to extract copper(II) cation from aqueous copper salt solutions, offering a practical and economical pathway to effectively recover metals using agricultural by-products.

This work examined the corrosion protection performance of benzoate loaded hydrotalcite/graphene oxide (HT/GO-BZ) for carbon steel. HT/GO-BZ was fabricated by the co-precipitation method and characterized by infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and scanning electronic microscopy. The corrosion inhibition action of HT/GO-BZ on carbon steel in 0.1 M NaCl solution was evaluated by electrochemical measurements. The benzoate content in HT/GO-BZ was determined by UV-Vis spectroscopy. Subsequently, the effect of HT/GO-BZ on the corrosion resistance of the water-based epoxy coating was investigated by the salt spray test. The obtained results demonstrated the intercalation of benzoate and GO in the hydrotalcite structure. The benzoate content in HT/GO-BZ was about 16%. The polarization curves of the carbon steel electrode revealed anodic corrosion inhibition activity of HT/GO-BZ and the inhibition efficiency was about 95.2% at a concentration of 3g/L. The GO present in HT/GO-BZ enhanced the inhibition effect of HT-BZ. The presence of HT/GO-BZ improved the corrosion resistance of the waterborne epoxy coating.

In this letter, we propose a spatially adaptive noise removal algorithm using local statistics. The proposed algorithm is consisted of two stages such as noise detection and removal. In order to solve the trade-off between the effective noise suppression and the over-smoothness of the reconstructed image, local statistics such as local maximum and the local weighted activity is defined. With the local statistics, the noise detection function is defined and a modified Gaussian filter is used to suppress the detected noise components. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

In this study, we use high-throughput sequencing-based metagenomic methods to investigate the differences in seasonal structures of the bacterial community and the abundance and diversity of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and mobile genetic elements (MGEs) in both shrimp ponds and river water samples downstream of the Day River, Ninh Binh, Vietnam. The structure of the central bacterial community, ARGs, and MGEs was found to be regardless of the seasons and locations. The predominant phyla found in all samples was Proteobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Actinobacteria. Multi-drug resistance (MDR) genes and transposases are the most dominant ARG types and MGEs, respectively. Our data showed a higher abundance of bacterial communities, ARGs, and MGEs in the river water during the rainy season. There is a significant correlation between the abundance of ARGs, MGEs, and environmental factors. Our results indicate that water environments containing ARGs/MGEs carrying bacteria pose a risk to shrimp and human health, especially during the rainfall-polluted water season.

The paper aims to examine the relationship between the Board of Directors’ characteristics and the timeliness of financial statements of listed firms in Vietnam. Accordingly, research data was collected from the FiinPro Platform database system, which included financial statements of 548 organizations listed on the Hochiminh Stock Exchange and the Hanoi Stock Exchange from 2013 to 2018. The paper employs the OLS regression method with a strong standard error method and FGLS to handle the problem of variable variance and autocorrelation. The research results show that the following three factors have significant impacts on the timeliness of financial statements: the duality of Chairman, the age of Chairman, and the change of members of the Board of Directors. The findings suggest that the duality of the Chairman of the Board of Directors will lead to a decrease in control effectiveness, adversely affecting the timeliness of the financial statements. In addition, the change of members in the Board of Directors will lead to a positive change in the timely provision of information. The age of the Chairman of the Board of Directors also positively impacts the timeliness of financial statements.

We examine the stock market performance of Vietnam’s listed firms in response to the country’s approval of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). Employing an event study methodology, we first calculate the abnormal returns of all listed Vietnamese firms around the CPTPP’s approval date. Then, we attempt to link these abnormal returns to firms’ characteristics. We find evidence that the announcement of the CPTPP’s approval is associated with positive abnormal returns for Vietnam’s listed firms. We also find considerable heterogeneity in the magnitude and pace of the impacts of the CPTPP’s approval on market returns across Vietnam’s two stock exchanges. However, we fail to reject the null hypothesis that the market did not react to the CPTPP’s approval at the sectoral level.

Urea and its substituted derivatives are playing important role in chemical industry for many decades [1]. However, for a long time, these useful substances have been prepared by the coupling reaction between amines and phosgene. In order to avoid using harmful agent, greener and economic routes have been investigated by numerous researchers. During the last decades, enormous works have been done on finding a homogenous catalyst for this transformation, however, heterogeneous catalysts still have not intensively developed - only a few active solid bases have been published such as CeO2, Cs2CO3 in NMP and PEG/KOH system [2]. Here we present a novel heterogeneous catalyst system comprising polystyrene- anchored matrices and basic ionic liquids as simple but highly regenerative catalyst for the synthesis of diureas from direct coupling reactions of various amines and CO2.
The Influence of Hydrotalcite Intercalated with Benzoate on UV Stability of Acrylic Coating
Thuy Duong Nguyen,Anh Son Nguyen,Thu Thuy Thai,Gia Vu Pham,Thi Xuan Hang To,Marie-Georges Olivier 한국부식방식학회 2020 Corrosion Science and Technology Vol.19 No.1
It is important to realize that benzoate was intercalated into hydrotalcite (HTC-Bz) by the co-precipitationmethod. In this case, acrylic coating with 0.5 wt% HTC-Bz was deposited on carbon steel using the spincoating method. Next, the HTC-Bz structure was characterized by Field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). In fact, an ultravioletvision spectroscopy (UV-Vis) was used to determine the benzoate content in HTC-Bz, and the UV absorptionability of HTC-Bz. Using electrochemical techniques, water contact angle measurement, and thermal-gravimetricanalysis, we compared the protective properties before and after QUV test, hydrophobicity and the thermalstability of acrylic coating containing HTC-Bz. The obtained results showed that HTC-Bz with a plate-likestructure was successfully synthesized; benzoate was intercalated into the interlayer of hydrotalcite witha concentration of 28 wt%. Additionally, it was noted that HTC-Bz has an UV absorption peak at 225nm. In conclusion, the addition of HTC-Bz enhanced the UV stability, hydrophobicity and the thermal stabilityof acrylic coating.

One major concern of Seoul City is the premature failure occurrence such as fatigue cracking and rutting in the pavement. Due to the acceleration at intersections and low vehicle speed at bus stops that cause higher shear and critical strain on the pavement. Because of this, there is a need to develop a new mixture that can withstand bus stop and intersection traffic while preventing premature failure. In this study, a high modulus asphalt mixture was adapted and developed to address the cracking and rutting concerns at bus stops and intersections of Seoul City. Indirect tensile (IDT) and beam fatigue testing were conducted to determine the fatigue performance of the high modulus asphalt mixture (HMB). In addition, the behaviour of the HMB considering loading speed and temperature were investigated using the IDT dynamic modulus test. It was found that the HMB performs 3 and 1.5 times better compared to conventional asphalt using IDT and beam fatigue test respectively. Moreover, it was observed that modulus value of HMB is two times better at low frequency (high temperature) compared to conventional asphalt. The dynamic modulus value of the HMB was then used as input for bus stop and intersection scenario analyses. It was found that HMB can reduce the total thickness of the pavement around 4 to 6cm compared to the conventional asphalt. It can be concluded that because of the better fatigue and rutting performance and high modulus value of HMB at low frequency, it can perform better in bus stops and intersections. It is recommended to conduct field construction to further evaluate the performance of HMB asphalt mixtures in the field.
