Vol.26 No.2

This study was based on the fact that the physical and motor performance of CP (Cerebral Palsy; CP) is closely related to the quality of life (QOL), and the objective was to clarify the relationship between the whole range of ROM (ROM) and the Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQOL). As a result, cervical spine (rotation), shoulder (flexion & extension, abduction & adduction) of the upper body ROM showed a significant correlation (.366~.448) with physical functioning (P<.05). Lower body hip (flexion & extension) and Physical functioning, hip (abduction & adduction) with Physical functioning, Social functioning, Mental health, Physical Summary Score, and Mental Summary Score, correspondingly showed a positive correlations (.278~.541)(P<.05). And knee (internal rotation & external rotation) showed a significant correlation (.278 ~ .350) with physical functioning, mental health, and mental summary score (p<.05). Finally, ankle (dorsiflexion & plantarflexion) showed a positive correlation (.331~.455) with Physical functioning, Vitality, Social functioning, Role emotional, Mental health and Mental Summary Score (p<.05). In addition, the Mental Summary Score was closely related to ankle (dorsiflexion & plantarflexion) and shoulder (flexion & extension) (p<.05) and was a predictor variable that could account for 30% of the mental summary score. In conclusion, ROM of the lower body, rather than upper, of adult CP showed a close relationship with HRQOL in the whole body ROM of the adult CP, and it became clear that it has a great influence on the mental summary score. And also, ankle and shoulder ROMs were found to be important predictors of the Mental Summary Score.

        유정완(You, Jung-Wan),김아람(Kim, A-Ram),심유진(Shim, Yoo-Jin),김규태(Kim, Kyu-Tae) 한국체육과학회 2017 한국체육과학회지 Vol.26 No.3

The purpose of this study is to identify the physical and physiological factors that affect the performance of the du-athlon competition for college triathlon athletes. Subjects were 12 healthy male college students from the triathlon club. Each race performance is composed of first run 4.3km, bike 36.9km, and the second run 4.5km, total distance of 45.7km which is the official race record of the du-athlon. The experiment consisted of ① an incremental load running test using a treadmill (Run Test), ② a gradual submaximal bike test of running and cycling using a treadmill and a bicycle ergometer a (Run-Cycle Test), and ③ cycling and running gradual submaximal test (Cycle-Run Test) was conducted three times. Examining the Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis of the physical and physiological factors affecting race results, of the maximum speed of the treadmill measured in the Run Test and the two measurements in CE from the Cycle-Run Test were detected as factors affecting the race performance. The correlation coefficient was 0.82 and detected two measurements can be used to predict race outcomes by 84%. In conclusion, from the results of this experiment, maximum power at maximum speed of treadmill in running race and effective endurance was needed in the bike race for du-athlon competition. Especially, for cycle race, which takes up most part of the du-athlon race, it appears that the power which can sustain a constant load for a long time and long distance is thought to be important.

        대학생의 운동습관이 보행운동에 미치는 영향

        유정완(You, Jung-Wan),김아람(Kim, A-Ram),백승희(Baek, Seung-Hui) 한국체육과학회 2018 한국체육과학회지 Vol.27 No.6

This study was conducted on 10 male students; 5 who were exercising regularly 4 days or more weekly with exercise habits as exercise group, and 5 male students who exercise less than once a week without exercise habits as non-exercise group. The purpose of this study was to investigate if there is any difference between the locomotive movements of a young adult in accordance with the movement habits, what causes the difference, and to verify what it means from physiological perspective. While the stride length slightly increased during exercise in both condition for exercise group, the non-exercise group showed a slight increase in 80m walking but decrease in 100m waling(p<.05). During 80m resting/walking and 100m resting/walking, the average heart rate was significantly higher for the non-exercise group than for the exercise group(p<.05). The HR of non - exercise group was significantly higher than that of exercise group in 80m walking(p<.05), and the HR of the non-exercise group kept increasing compared to little change for the exercise group. Also, 100m walking showed the same tendency when walking at 80m(p<.05). 100m walking was significantly higher in non - exercise group than in exercise group during latter trend(p<.05). Especially during 100m waling, the HR was significantly lowered to show a significant difference(p<.05). Both the grip strength and one-legged stand tend to be higher in the exercise group, but the significant difference was recognized. Back muscle strength, knee extension power and sit-ups were significantly higher in the exercise group than in the non-exercise group(p<.05). There was a significant positive correlation between knee extension power and stride change(p<.05, r=.69). In Conclusion, Considering the effect of age and declining muscle strength and declining strength of modern young adults, the walking problems in youth cannot be avoided. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen walking ability by deepening the understanding of the problem of walking and exercise regularly from adolescence.

      • Repression of VvpM Protease Expression by Quorum Sensing and the cAMP-cAMP Receptor Protein Complex in <i>Vibrio vulnificus</i>

        Kim, Jeong-A,Lee, Mi-Ae,Jung, You-Chul,Jang, Bo-Ram,Lee, Kyu-Ho American Society for Microbiology 2018 Journal of Bacteriology Vol.200 No.7

<P>IMPORTANCE An opportunistic human pathogen, Vibrio vulnificus produces multiple extracellular proteases that are involved in diverse interactions with a host. The total exoproteolytic activity is detected mainly in the supernatants of the high-cell-density cultures. However, some proteolytic activity derived from a metalloprotease, VvpM, was present in the supernatants of the low-cell-density cultures sampled at the early growth period. In this study, we present the regulatory mechanism for VvpM expression via repression by at least two transcription factors. This type of transcriptional regulation is the exact opposite of those for expression of the other V. vulnificus exoproteases. Differential regulation of each exoprotease's production then facilitates the pathogen's participation in the distinct interactions with a host.</P>

        김아람(Kim, A-Ram),유정완(You, Jung-Wan) 한국체육과학회 2018 한국체육과학회지 Vol.27 No.6

The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for preventing male osteoporosis by analyzing the effects of hip joint isokinetic muscular function on lumbar and thigh bone density of middle-aged men. The subject of this study consisted of 23 middle-aged men in S-si and measured loading rate of hip joint 45dge/sec, 300dge/sec using multi-frequency impedance device(Inbody 4.0, Biospace Co.) for measuring body composition, dual energy x-ray bone densitometer(PRODIGY, GE Medical Systems Lunar) for measuring thigh bone density, and Biodex system 3 for measuring isokinetic muscular function. This study used SPSS 21.0 version for statistical processing. The isokinetic strength variable that made the biggest effect on thigh bone density of middle-aged men was the right muscle strength(extension muscle strength: r=.633, p<.01, flexion muscle strength: r=.585, p<.01), and muscle endurance had no correlation. According to the regression analysis, flexion muscle strength showed higher explanation power for thigh bone density among isokinetic muscular strength variables(muscle power: 69.9% vs 22.7%, muscle endurance: 17.9% vs -). Independent variables that make a significant effect on hip joint flexion muscle were in the order of femur, neck, troch, and BMD, and regression equation of hip joint isokinetic strength is -13.645+337.710(Neck BMD)-228.744(Troch BMD) and 70%(67% according to the modified coefficient of determination) is being explained by the independent variable included in the model.

      • EFFECT OF PURIFIED ALGINATE MICROCAPSULES ON THE REGENERATION OF CHONDROCYTES

        Hwang, Ji Hye,Kim, On You,Kim, A Ram,Bae, Ji Yeon,Jeong, Su Mi,Shim, Jung Bo,Yoon, Kun Ho,Lee, Dongwon,Khang, Gilson National Taiwan University 2012 Biomedical engineering Vol.24 No.3

<P> Adult articular cartilage tissue has poor capability of self-repair. Therefore, a variety of tissue engineering approaches are motivated by the clinical need for articular repair. Alginate has been used as a biomaterial for cartilage regeneration. The alginate is a natural polymer that is extracted from seaweeds and purification. However, the main drawback is the immune rejection in vivo. To overcome this problem, we have developed the biocompability of alginate using modified Korbutt method. After alginate was purified, purified alginate microcapsules were used in cartilage regeneration. Chondrocytes were seeded in purified and nonpurified alginate microcapsules, and then cell viability, proliferation and phenotype were analyzed by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5 diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. Reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was conducted to confirm mRNA expression on collagen type I and collagen type II for chondrocytes phenotype. Hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) and Safranin-O histological staining showed tissue growth at the interface during the first 10 days. In this study, chondrocytes in purified alginate microcapsules had higher cell viability, proliferation and more phenotype expression than those in nonpurified alginate microcapsules. The results suggest that the purified alginate microcapsule is useful for cartilage regeneration. </P>

김보라 ( Bo Ra Kim ),고혜연 ( Hae Youn Ko ),한선영 ( Sun Young Han ),김희은 ( Hee Eun Kim ),정은하 ( Eun Ha Jung ),유아람 ( A Ram You ),하원호 ( Won Ho Ha ),권호근 ( Ho Keun Kwon ),김백일 ( Baek Il Kim ) 대한예방치과·구강보건학회 2015 大韓口腔保健學會誌 Vol.39 No.4

Objectives: This clinical study aimed to investigate if dentifrices containing policresulen would help to control dental plaque and gingivitis. Methods: Seventy-eight eligible adults participated in this double-blind and randomized clinical study after an initial oral examination, calculus removal, and tooth prophylaxis. Two weeks after the procedure, the participants were assigned to three groups using the following dentifrices: (1) a dentifrice containing 0.22% NaF (control group); (2) a dentifrice containing 0.22% NaF and 100 ppm policresulen (policresulen group); and (3) a dentifrice containing 0.22% NaF, 100 ppm policresulen, and 1.00% bamboo salt (policresulen/bamboo group). The participants used only the provided dentifrice (for 1 min, twice a day, over 8 weeks) when brushing their teeth and followed their normal brushing habits. Dental plaque accumulation and gingivitis measurements were conducted using the Turesky modification of the Quigley- Hein plaque index (PI), the Loe and Silness gingival index (GI), and the percent bleeding on probing (%BOP) to obtain baseline data and 4- and 8-week data after grouping. Results: A total of 73 participants aged 35.92±11.46 years (mean±SD) completed the study. The results after 8 weeks demonstrated statistically significant group-by-time interactions for PI, GI, and %BOP (P<0.001). The PI observed in the control groups increased over time up to 6%, while that observed in the dentifrice groups containing policresulen decreased by 5% (P<0.001). For GI and %BOP, the control group exhibited significantly higher values after 8 weeks, while the policresulen and the policresulen/ bamboo groups revealed similar index values as the baseline after 4 and 8 weeks. The changes in all indices were significantly different between the control and the two experimental groups. There were no significant differences in the results obtained from the policresulen/bamboo group and the results obtained from the policresulen group. Conclusions: Use of dentifrices containing policresulen over 8 weeks demonstrated anti-plaque and anti-gingivitis efficacy compared to a control dentifrice.

      • Interleukin-10–producing CD5+ B cells inhibit mast cells during immunoglobulin E–mediated allergic responses

        Kim, Hyuk Soon,Kim, A-Ram,Kim, Do Kyun,Kim, Hyun Woo,Park, Young Hwan,Jang, Geun Hyo,Kim, Bokyung,Park, Yeong Min,You, Jueng Soo,Kim, Hyung Sik,Beaven, Michael A.,Kim, Young Mi,Choi, Wahn Soo AAAS 2015 Science signaling Vol.8 No.368

<P>Subsets of B cells inhibit various immune responses through their production of the cytokine interleukin-10 (IL-10). We found that IL-10-producing CD5(+) B cells suppressed the immunoglobulin E (IgE)- and antigen-mediated activation of mast cells in vitro as well as allergic responses in mice in an IL-10-dependent manner. Furthermore, the suppressive effect of these B cells on mast cells in vitro and in vivo depended on direct cell-to-cell contact through the costimulatory receptor CD40 on CD5(+) B cells and the CD40 ligand on mast cells. This contact enhanced the production of IL-10 by the CD5(+) B cells. Through activation of the Janus-activated kinase-signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 pathway, IL-10 decreased the abundance of the kinases Fyn and Fgr and inhibited the activation of the downstream kinase Syk in mast cells. Together, these findings suggest that an important function of IL-10-producing CD5(+) B cells is inhibiting mast cells and IgE-mediated allergic responses.</P>

        Won-Ho Ha,Jae-Hyun Ahn,A-Ram You,Ji-Hye Kim,Min-Jeong Cho,Seung-Chul Shin 대한예방치과학회 2013 International Journal of Clinical Preventive Denti Vol.9 No.4

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the stain removal, calculus deposit inhibition, and cleaning effect for teeth surface and interdental region by using toothpaste containing Pyrophosphate and soft granule (Zeolite-M). Methods: 1) For the study, general toothpaste was prepared as control and 2 kinds of test toothpastes were prepared. Test toothpaste-1(T1) containing Pyrophosphate and test toothpaste-2 (T2) containing Pyrophosphate and soft granule (Zeolite-M, Ultra White BallⓇ). 2) In-vitro study: The stain removal and interdental cleaning effect were measured using stained Hydroxyapatite tablet, and 20 subjects’ teeth surface and interdental cleaning effect by brushing was evaluated with test toothpaste. 3) Clinical study: The study was performed on 88 subjects. Calculus index and Stain index were measured during 8 week. Results: 1) T2 showed the highest stain removal and cleaning effect for teeth surface and interdental region. The results of the experiment were statistically significant (p<0.05). 2) After using toothpastes 4 weeks, subjects using T2 showed less tartar deposit than using control, and after 8 weeks, T2 statistically inhibit tartar formation than T1 and control (p<0.05). 3) Using T2 longer than 4 weeks could be accepted as a highly effective way to stain removal. Conclusion: T2 showed significantly effective on plaque, stain removal, calculus deposit inhibition and cleaning for teeth surface and interdental region than control toothpastes. Therefore, toothpaste containing pyrophosphate and soft granule is recommendable to prevent calculus formation and teeth staining. The subjects using T 2 can feel whitening efficacy and satisfaction of cleaning more than placebo and T1.
