        The aim of this paper is to show that {-ji} is the marker including the process of thinking about the assimilation of knowledge between the speaker and the listener. In other words, {-ji} is the marker expressing that the speaker’s knowledge status is [assimilated information (including the process of thinking)]. At the same time, it premises [the justification of acceptance (via thinking)] in the listener’s case. Either side of these two core meanings of {-ji} can be raised by the context or by the types of knowledge. The usage of {-ji} can be differentiated by the raised core meaning and by the way that the meaning of the declarative/interrogative sentence works. In result, the epistemic modality and the deontic modality of {-ji} will be unified into two core meanings.

        This study aims to present a logical model applicable to the process of dividing sentences containing prenominal clauses in Korean; it will be the first step for the process of machine translation of Korean-to-English. I applied a problem solving method which breaks a bigger problem down into subproblems to the process of dealing with the issue of segmenting a complex sentence containing prenominal clauses. ⓐ The method to recognize the number of the sentences containing prenominal clauses and realize the scope of each embedded clause. ⓑ The method to judge the prenominal clause type of each embedded clause and restore them to complete simple sentences.

        `X잡이`의 구성 요소 `잡이`의 의미 분류와 의미 파생 양상

        This study is conducted to classify various derived words of "X-Jabi", a secondary words of Jabi by figuring out a variety of meanings of Jabi constituting words of "a X-Jabi " form and reviewing the patterns of the derived meanings. The meaning of Jabi in an original form is most closely interpreted into verb "Jobda". Thus, the meaning of the original Jabi were analyzed into four meanings: ① a "behavior of catching X", ② an "object of catching X", "③ a "man of catching X" and ④ "handle". This suggests that the meaning of the original Jabi made by a noun derived suffix "-i". It appears that of the various original words of Jabi, only Jabi meaning a man has derived a variety of meanings. In the original Jabi that refers to "a man", there are 2 types of first - derived meaning: ⑤ a "man in charge of X in works or events" and ⑥ a "functional expert in X field.` The semantic features of original Jabi are analyzed into a [man in charge of X in a society] [for making a living]. Of these semantic features, a semantic derivation is generated after a feature [man in charge of X in a society] is emerged, that is, ⑤ a man in charge of X in works or events." A man who catches "X" in the original Jabi is analyzed as a man who takes charge of "X" in the society for making a living in terms of semantic features. Of these two features, the rest one is ⑥ Jabi of "a functional expert in X field". From the Jabi derived in 1st derivation, 2nd meaning is individually derived. As ⑤ "such a man who takes charge of X in works or events", the 1st derived Jabi leads to the 2nd derivation. The features of such a man who takes charge of X in works or events are emerged, succeeding to ⑦ a man with features related to X, and ⑥ a "functional expert in X field` succeeded, and ⑧ it was derived as "skills or technologies that the expert display."

        피부감작능 평가를 위한 BrdU-FCM 국소림프절시험법 기법 이전을 위한 제 조건

        Local lymph node assay (LLNA) using mice has been adopted as an alternative model for testing skin sensitization to chemicals. Modification of LLNA was recently reported through combination of BrdU incorporation and flow cytometric analysis, which was designated as LLNA:BrdU-FCM. We introduce how LLNA:BrdU-FCM could be successfully established in a naive laboratory where the method was never experienced. Nine week old female BALB/c mice, 5 mice per group, were used and grouped into non-treatment, BrdU only-treatment, acetone-olive oil (AOO) vehicle-treatment, and 5, 10, 25% α-hexylcinamaldehyde (HCA) positive control. BrdU solution was injected intraperitoneally one day after three consecutive application of AOO or HCA on dorsum area of both ears. Auricular lymph node was collected from both ears one day after the BrdU injection. Thereafter flow cytometric staining procedures were followed. Various parameters related with calculation of stimulation index were analyzed including number of lymphocytes, BrdU incorporation%, and number of BrdU incorporated lymphocytes. The critical procedures for successful establishment were as followings; quality control of every quantitative apparatus, appropriate application of test compounds on dorsum of mouse ear, precise injection of BrdU, accurate preparation of single cell suspension and counting of lymph node cells, and experienced operation of flow cytometer. Face-to-face training from an experienced lead laboratory and preparation of very detailed standard operational procedures could play the most important role for the establishment. Based on Performance Standards for Assessment of Proposed Similar or Modified Test Methods by OECD, the LLNA:BrdU-FCM could be a good alternative method for screening skin sensitizers.

        감정 표현 관용구의 범위 설정

        This paper aims to establish the category of conventional expressions which denote emotional meanings definitely by considering the expressions’ typicality as a conventional expression and the typicality of meanings of ‘emotion’, and to present the list of the phrases qualified to be in that category. First, an emotion expression having combinational conventionality can be considered as a sort of a meaningful phrase unit. When a phrasal expression satisfying this condition expresses an ‘emotional’ meaning, it is probably a conventional emotion expression. Next, those expressions are divided into 2 kinds by semantic features: the typical conventional emotion expressions and the non-typical conventional emotion expressions. A typical conventional emotion expression could express its emotional meaning only as a whole phrase; Furthermore, the phrase itself includes a emotional meaning as a conventionally coded meaning; and, the phrase expresses non-intentional emotion caused by stimuli.

        Proanthocyanidins Suppresses Lipopolysaccharide-stimulated Inflammatory Responses via Heme Oxygenase-1 Induction in RAW264.7 Macrophages

        프로안토시아니딘(proanthocyanidins)은 식물계에 가장 풍부한 폴리페놀성 화합물로 다양한 고등식물의 뿌리, 잎, 열매, 나무껍질 등에 널리 존재할 뿐만 아니라 이러한 원료로 만들어진 차, 와인, 맥주 등과 같은 식품에도 상당량 함유되어 있다. 세포 및 실험동물을 이용한 다수의 연구보고에 의하면 프로안토시아니딘은 항산화활성 및 면역조절활성, DNA 복구 및 항종양 작용과 같은 인체 건강에 유익한 무수한 효과를 가지고 있는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 면역 세포 중 대식세포(macrophage)는 염증반응을 매개하는 중요한 세포로 외부 병원체 제거에 중요한 역할을 수행하고 있다. 그러나 대식세포가 만성 염증을 유발하고 비만, 당뇨병, 대사 증후군 및 암과 같은 다양한 질병에 관여한다는 것 또한 널리 보고되어왔다. 본 연구에서는 마우스의 대식세포주인 RAW264.7세포를 이용하여 프로안토시아니딘의 항염증활성의 일단이 Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1)의 유도에 의해서 매개됨을 밝혔다. RAW264.7세포에 프로안토시아니딘을 처리한 결과 세포독성을 보이지 않은 농도에서 HO-1의 발현을 증강시켰다. 또한 프로안토시아니딘의 처리는 HO-1의 발현을 조절하는 핵심 전사인자인 Nrf (nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor)-2의 핵으로의 이동을 유의적으로 증가시켰다. 프로안토시아닌딘의 처리는 LPS (lipopolysaccharide)에 의해 유도된 NO (nitric oxide)의 생성 및 iNOS (inducible NO synthase)의 발현과 염증성 사이토카인의 생성 및 발현도 유의적으로 억제 하였다. 이러한 결과는 프로안토시아니딘의 항염증제제로서의 개발 가능성을 제시하는 결과이다. Proanthocyanidins are naturally occurring polyphenolic compounds abundant in many vegetables, plant skins (rind/bark), seeds, flowers, fruits, and nuts. Numerous in vitro and in vivo studies have demonstrated myriad effects potentially beneficial to human health, such as antioxidation, immunomodulation, DNA repair, and antitumor activity. Among immune cells, macrophages are crucial players in a variety of inflammatory responses to environmental conditions. However, it has been widely reported that macrophages cause chronic inflammation and are involved in a variety of diseases, such as obesity, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and cancer. In this study, we report the suppressive effect of proanthocyanidins via the heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1)-related system, on the immune response of the LPS-stimulated mouse macrophage cell line RAW264.7. Increased HO-1 expression at mRNA and protein levels were found in proanthocyanidins-treated RAW264.7 cells. Further, proanthocyanidins enhanced nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2 translocation into the nucleus. RAW264.7 cells were treated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) with or without proanthocyanidins, and inflammatory mediator expression levels were assessed. Proanthocyanidins treatment resulted in the attenuation of nitric oxide production and inducible nitric oxide synthase expression in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. In addition, mRNA and protein expression of proinflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-6, was inhibited by proanthocyanidins treatment in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. These findings support proanthocyanidins as a promising anti-inflammatory agent.
