Extracorporeal Shock Wave Combined with Teriparatide-Loaded Hydrogel Injection Promotes Segmental Bone Defects Healing in Osteoporosis

        Chen Qi,Xia Chen,Shi Binbin,Chen Chuyong,Yang Chen,Mao Guangfeng,Shi Fangfang 한국조직공학과 재생의학회 2021 조직공학과 재생의학 Vol.18 No.6

BACKGROUND: Osteoporosis is a systemic bone disease characterized by decreased bone density and deterioration of bone microstructure, leading to an increased probability of fragility fractures. Once segmental bone defect occurs, it is easy to cause delayed union and nonunion. METHODS: The aim of this study is to investigate the efficacy of extracorporeal shock wave (ESW) and teriparatide-loaded hydrogel (T-Gel) combined strategy on the cell activity and differentiation of osteoporosis derived bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (OP-BMSCs) in vitro and bone regeneration in osteoporotic segmental bone defects in vivo. RESULTS: In vitro, the strategy of combining ESW and T-Gel significantly enhanced OP-BMSCs proliferation, survival, migration, and osteogenic differentiation by up-regulating the alkaline phosphatase activity, mineralization, and expression of runt-related transcription factor-2, type I collagen, osteocalcin, and osteopontin. In the segmental bone defect models of osteoporotic rabbits, Micro-CT evaluation and histological observation demonstrated this ESW-combined with T-Gel injection significantly induced bone healing by enhancing the osteogenic activity of the local microenvironment in osteoporotic defects. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, ESW-combined with T-Gel injection could regulate the poor osteogenic microenvironment in osteoporotic defects and show potential for enhancing fragility fractures healing. • Serum Peroxiredoxin3 is a Useful Biomarker for Early Diagnosis and Assessemnt of Prognosis of Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Chinese Patients

        Shi, Liang,Wu, Li-Li,Yang, Jian-Rong,Chen, Xiao-Fei,Zhang, Yi,Chen, Zeng-Qiang,Liu, Cun-Li,Chi, Sheng-Ying,Zheng, Jia-Ying,Huang, Hai-Xia,Yu, Fu-Jun,Lin, Xiang-Yang Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.7

Background: Recently, peroxiredoxin3 (PRDX3) was identified as a novel molecular marker for the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, its potential clinical application as a serum marker for the early diagnosis and prognosis of HCC has not been investigated. Methods: PRDX3, alpha-fetaprotein (AFP), and other biochemical parameters were measured in serum samples from 297 Chinese patients, including 96 with HCC, 98 with liver cirrhosis (LC), and 103 healthy controls (HCs). Correlations between serum PRDX3 expression and clinicopathological variables and the relationship between serum PRDX3 expression and prognosis were analyzed. Results: Serum PRDX3 was significantly higher in HCC patients than in the LC and HC groups. The sensitivity and specificity of serum PRDX3 for the diagnosis of HCC were 85.9% and 75.3%, respectively, at a cutoff of 153.26 ng/mL, and the area under the curve was 0.865. Moreover, serum PRDX3 expression was strongly associated with AFP level, tumor diameter, TNM stage, and portal vein invasion. Kaplan-Meier curve analysis revealed that HCC patients with high serum PRDX3 expression had a shorter median survival time than those with low PRDX3 expression. Moreover, serum PRDX3 expression was an independent risk factor for overall survival. The inverse correlation between serum PRDX3 and patient survival remained significant in patients with early-stage HCC and in those with normal serum AFP levels. Conclusions: Serum PRDX3 can be used as a noninvasive biomarker for the diagnosis and/or prognosis of HCC.

      • miR-340 Reverses Cisplatin Resistance of Hepatocellular Carcinoma Cell Lines by Targeting Nrf2-dependent Antioxidant Pathway

        Shi, Liang,Chen, Zhan-Guo,Wu, Li-li,Zheng, Jian-Jian,Yang, Jian-Rong,Chen, Xiao-Fei,Chen, Zeng-Qiang,Liu, Cun-Li,Chi, Sheng-Ying,Zheng, Jia-Ying,Huang, Hai-Xia,Lin, Xiang-Yang,Zheng, Fang Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.23

Many chemotherapeutic agents have been successfully used to treat hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC); however, the development of chemoresistance in liver cancer cells usually results in a relapse and worsening of prognosis. It has been demonstrated that DNA methylation and histone modification play crucial roles in chemotherapy resistance. Currently, extensive research has shown that there is another potential mechanism of gene expression control, which is mediated through the function of short noncoding RNAs, especially for microRNAs (miRNAs), but little is known about their roles in cancer cell drug resistance. In present study, by taking advantage of miRNA effects on the resistance of human hepatocellular carcinoma cells line to cisplatin, it has been demonstrated that miR-340 were significantly downregulated whereas Nrf2 was upregulated in HepG2/CDDP (cisplatin) cells, compared with parental HepG2 cells. Bioinformatics analysis and luciferase assays of Nrf2-3'-untranslated region-based reporter constructor indicated that Nrf2 was the direct target gene of miR-340, miR-340 mimics suppressing Nrf2-dependent antioxidant pathway and enhancing the sensitivity of HepG2/CDDP cells to cisplatin. Interestingly, transfection with miR-340 mimics combined with miR-340 inhibitors reactivated the Nrf2 related pathway and restored the resistance of HepG2/CDDP cells to CDDP. Collectively, the results first suggested that lower expression of miR-340 is involved in the development of CDDP resistance in hepatocellular carcinoma cell line, at least partly due to regulating Nrf2-dependent antioxidant pathway.

Facile Synthesis of Graphene–Enwrapped Ag3PO4 Composites with Highly Efficient Visible Light Photocatalytic Performance

        Shi Lei,Da Chen,Wenting Xie,Jing Zhang,Guangxing Ping,Meiqiang Fan,Laishun Qin,Liqun Bai,Zhi Chen,Chunju Lv,Kangying Shu 성균관대학교(자연과학캠퍼스) 성균나노과학기술원 2016 NANO Vol.11 No.1

In this work, thermally exfoliated graphene nanosheets (GNS) were employed to prepare novel Ag3PO4–GNS composite photocatalysts by a facile chemical precipitation approach. The asprepared Ag3PO4–GNS composite photocatalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Raman spectroscopy, thermogravimetric (TG) analysis, ultraviolet-visible diffuse re-flectance spectroscopy (DRS) and photoluminescence (PL) spectra. It was found that the Ag3PO4 particles were well deposited on the surfaces of GNS. Compared with bare Ag3PO4 and Ag3PO4–rGO composite, the Ag3PO4–GNS composite exhibited enhanced photocatalytic activity for the photodegradation of rhodamine B (RhB) under visible light irradiation. The photocatalytic degradation rate of Ag3PO4–GNS composite was 1.7 times that of bare Ag3PO4 and about 1.3 times that of Ag3PO4–rGO for the degradation of RhB. Furthermore, the photocatalytic stability of Ag3PO4–GNS composite was also greatly enhanced. This enhanced photocatalytic activity and stability could be ascribed to the positive synergetic effects between the Ag3PO4 particles and GNS sheets, which could provide a greater number of active adsorption sites, suppress charge recombination and reduce the serious photocorrosion of Ag3PO4. Moreover, the photocatalytic degradation of RhB over Ag3PO4–GNS composites was also optimized, suggesting that the optimal amount of GNS in the composites was 11.4 wt.%. This work shows a great potential of Ag3PO4–GNS composite for environmental treatment of organic pollutants.

A Novel LQG Controller of Active Suspension System for Vehicle Roll Safety

        Shi-an Chen,Yu-meng Cai,Jian Wang,Ming Yao 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2018 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.16 No.5

To improve vehicle roll safety during steering operation at high running speed, a new design approach for Linear Quadratic Gaussian (LQG) controller of active suspension system is proposed. Key steps of the new approach are as follows: 1) The front axle steered angle is written into a differential equation in accord with the minimum phase system and combines with the original system into the augmented system equation; 2) positive infinitesimals respectively including controls are added to the index; Thirdly, weights of the evaluating indicators of the LQG controller are determined by using analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and normalization methods based on vehicle motion statistics under the double-lane change maneuver as the typical steering maneuver. Performance comparisons are implemented between the active suspension system and the passive one under the double-lane change, slalom and fish-hook maneuvers. Results verify that the active suspension system with the proposed controller can achieve better vehicle roll safety and has a good adaptability under different steering maneuvers.

Bayberry Tannin as Stabilizer for the Synthesis of Highly Active and Reusable Heterogeneous Pd Catalysts and Their Application in the Catalytic Hydrogenation of Olefins

Chen, Chen,Lv, Guang,Huang, Xin,Liao, Xue Pin,Zhang, Wen Hua,Shi, Bi Korean Chemical Society 2012 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.33 No.2

In this study, the homogenous Pd nanoparticles (Pd NPs) were first prepared with bayberry tannin (BT) as the stabilizers. Subsequently, the obtained bayberry tannin-stabilized Pd nanoparticles (BT-Pd) were immobilized onto ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ to prepare heterogeneous ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$-BT-Pd catalysts. Fourier Transformation Infrared Spectrum (FTIR) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) analyses confirmed that the Pd NPs were well stabilized by the phenolic hydroxyl groups of BT. Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) observation indicated that the diameter of the Pd NPs can be effectively controlled in the range of 4.2-16.0 nm by varying the amount of BT. It is found that the ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$-BT-Pd catalysts exhibit highly activity for various olefin hydrogenations. For example, the initial TOF (turnover frequency) of the ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$-BT-Pd in the allyl alcohol hydrogenation is as high as $12804 mol{\cdot}mol^{-1}{\cdot}h^{-1}$. Furthermore, the ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$-BT-Pd can be reused 5 times without significant loss of activity, exhibiting a superior reusability as compared with conventionally prepared ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$-Pd catalysts.

Visual and olfactory sensory responses of the butterfly Papilio maackii during foraging and courtship

        Chen Shunan,Li Mingtao,Liu Ji,Feng Ying,Yao Jun,Shi Lei,Chen Xiaoming 한국곤충학회 2021 Entomological Research Vol.51 No.10

Colors and chemicals are the most important cues for butterflies to localize mating partners and food. In this study, we used artificial flowers with different colors and plastic butterfly wing mimics to separate the impact of colors from other cues on foraging and courtship of the butterfly Papilio maackii. We found that males relied more on visual cues during foraging and courtship, but females responded more to olfactory signals. Males visited artificial flowers more frequently than females. However, when honey was applied on artificial flowers, the frequency of female’s flower visits increased and was much higher than that of male’s, suggesting that females may have stronger olfactory than visual senses. During courtship, females were passive, whereas males were very active in chasing females and driving away other males. Similar to courtship among butterflies in a natural population, males showed recognition ability to butterfly wing mimics, indicating that males could accurately identify mates using colors only without any chemical cues. We also analyzed volatiles and identified five types of male-specific chemicals while no female-specific chemicals were identified, suggesting that females might have used these male-specific volatiles to recognize and accepted males during courtship. Pollination of the plant Primula sieboldii mainly depends on P. maackii, and the plant has flowers with purple and mauve colors. Coincidently, P. maackii showed color preference to blue and purple, suggesting that the butterfly and plants might have coevolved during the long course of interactions.

      • Observation of multi-channel non-local transport in J-TEXT plasmas

        Shi, Yuejiang,Chen, Zhongyong,Yang, Zhoujun,Shi, Peng,Zhao, Kaijun,Diamond, Patrick H.,Kwon, JaeMin,Yan, Wei,Zhou, Hao,Pan, Xiaoming,Cheng, Zhifeng,Chen, Zhiping,Yang, SeongMoo,Zhang, Chi,Li, Da,Dong, IOP 2018 Nuclear fusion. Fusion nucléaire. &n.Illiga Vol.58 No.4

In cold pulse experiments in J-TEXT, not only are rapid electron temperature increases in the core observed, but also steep rises in the inner density are found. Moreover, some evidence of acceleration of the core toroidal rotation is also observed during the non-local transport process of electron temperature. These new findings of cold pulse experiments in J-TEXT suggest that turbulence spreading is a possible mechanism for the non-local transport dynamics.
