The anterior interosseous nerve syndrome is a compressive neuropathy of a motor branch of the median nerve, caused by tendinous bands (deep head of pronator teres, arcade of flexor superficialis, thickened lacertus fibrosus etc, trauma, enlarged bursae, tumors, anomalous muscles such as Gantser's muscle or palmaris brevis. On clinical examination, there is weakness or paralysis of the flexor pollicis longus, flexor digitorum profundus of the index finger, and the pronator quadratus muscles with a history of pain in the proximal forearm. The patients will assume a weakness of pinch or an unusual posture of pinch without sensory deficit because of loss of function of these muscles, hyperextending the interphalangeal joint of the thumb and the distal interphalangeal joint of the index finger. We experienced two cases of anterior interosseous nerve syndrome with typical clinical manifestations, confirmed by electrodiagnostic studies. In both cases causative anatomical structures were released through surgical exploration. A case was caused by a sharp edge of the flexor superficialis arcade, another case by the tendinous portion of deep head of pronator teres muscle and a thickened lacertus fibrosus. Both cases revealed partial recoveries after postoperative 3 months.

The purpose of this study is to examine the impacts of the utilitarian, hedonic and symbolic benefits of consuming sportswear on consumers’ purchase intention and willingness to pay. Also, the potential moderating role of the type of brands (i.e., luxury vs. regular brands) is examined. A multiple regression was performed to examine the impacts of the perceived utilitarian-, hedonic-, and symbolic benefits on individuals’ purchase intention, while controlling for descriptive norm, financial constraints, prior brand attitude and familiarity, prestige sensitivity, fashion consciousness, and demographics. It appeared that respondents who indicated that the advertised sportswear fulfilled their hedonic, utilitarian, and symbolic benefit had greater purchase intention. A log-linear regression analysis was performed to examine the impacts of the perceived utilitarian-, hedonic-, and symbolic benefits on individuals’ willingness to pay for sportswear, while controlling for the descriptive norm, financial constraints, prior brand attitude and familiarity, prestige sensitivity, fashion consciousness, and demographics. As respondents’ willingness to pay was logarithmically transformed in order to correct its skewed bias from the normal distribution, the findings indicated that those who indicated that the utilitarian and symbolic benefits were fulfilled were likely to pay 35% and 19.4%, respectively, more for the sportswear. In order to explore the potential moderating role of the type of brands, we examined the influences of utilitarian, hedonic, and symbolic benefits on purchase intention and willingness to pay for two split samples—one for the two luxury sportswear brands, and the other for the regular sportswear brands. After estimating coefficients for luxury and regular sportswear brands, respectively, a series of z-tests was performed to examine whether the magnitude of coefficients varied across the luxury vs. regular brands. The impacts of hedonic and symbolic benefits on purchase intention were greater for the luxury brands than for the regular brands, whereas the opposite pattern was observed for the utilitarian benefits. Similar patterns of relationships were observed for consumers’ willingness to pay, although the hedonic benefits did not have any significant impact. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed along with future research directions.

The vibration of a flexible cantilever tube with nonlinear constraints when it is subjected to flow internally with fluids is examined by experimental and theoretical analysis. These kinds of studies have been performed to find the existence of chaotic motion. In this paper, the important parameters of the system leading to such a chaotic motion such as Young's modulus and the coefficient of viscoelastic damping are discussed. The parameters are investigated by means of system identification so that comparisons are made between numerical analysis using the design parameters and the experimental results. The chaotic region led by several period-doubling bifurcations beyond the Hopf bifurcation is also re-established with phase portraits, bifurcation diagram and Lyapunov exponent so that one can define optimal parameters for system design.

The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a scale for measuring sport traits. A mixed-analysis method was conducted for scale development including 6 stages. In the first stage, preliminary f actors were extracted f rom previous l iterature. As a result, 1 0 sport t rait f actors related to the sport definition were derived. In the second stage, two expert consultation meetings were held to ensure content validity. Through the first expert meeting, relevant factors and questions were compiled and modified. The second expert meeting examined the factor structure, and scale items were modified based on the feedback. As a result, 5 sport traits and 29 items were developed: competition, regularity, playfulness, physicality, and institutionalization. In the third stage, a pilot test was conducted with 50 participants. A final scale consisted of 5 sport traits and 19 items based upon the results of the pilot study. In the fourth stage, using 440 participants, descriptive analyses and reliability analyses were conducted to evaluate the internal consistency of items in the main study. In the fifth stage, a confirmatory factor analysis was used to analyze convergent validity and discriminant validity of the scale. In the final stage, in order to verify the criterion validity of the scale, the effects of 5 traits on sport value were examined using a multiple regression analysis. Results indicated that all sport traits had a significant effect on the sport value. Therefore, the validity and reliability of sport traits scale developed in this study were verified.

N/A Vascular endothelial cells were isolated from freshly obtained human umbilical cords by trypsin or collagenase digestion of the interior of the umbilical vein. Selective isolation of endothelial cells were identified through histologic examination of the cord vein before and after the enzyme digestion, The eluent cells were grown in culture as a homogenous population and subcultured for periods of up to 2 months. The cultured human endothelial cells grew as monolayers of closely opposed, large, polygonal shape with indistinct cell borders, whereas mixed human smooth muscle cells and fibroblasts grew as overlapping layers of parallel arrays of slender, spindle-shaped cells. Cultured endothelial cells also expressed factor VIII antigen. This study demonstrated that it is possible to culture morphologically and immunologically identifiable human endothelial cells eluted from the umbilical vein for periods of up to 2 months.
