      • Graphene oxide assisted spontaneous growth of V2O5 nanowires at room temperature.

        <P>Graphene-decorated single crystalline V2O5 nanowires (G-VONs) have been synthesized by mixing graphene oxide (GO) and V2O5 suspensions at room temperature. In this process, V2O5 nanowires (VONs) are formed spontaneously from commercial V2O5 particles with the aid of GO. The as-formed one dimensional G-VONs were characterized by using a X-ray diffractometer, a X-ray photoelectron spectrometer, a scanning electron microscope, and a transmission electron microscope. GO plays a vital role in the VON formation with the simultaneous reduction of GO. A single G-VON showed superior electrical conductivity compared with that of the pure VONs obtained from the sol-gel method. This could be ascribed to the insertion of rGO sheets into the V2O5 layered structure, which was further confirmed by electron energy loss spectroscopy.</P>

      • Leadbetterella byssophila gen. nov., sp. nov., isolated from cotton-waste composts for the cultivation of oyster mushroom

        <P>A bacterial strain, designated 4M15<SUP>T</SUP>, was isolated from cotton-waste composts used as mushroom cultivation in South Korea. Properties of this isolate were studied on the basis of physiological and biochemical characteristics, fatty acid profile, isoprenoid quinone, DNA G+C content and phylogenetic position based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis. The strain was found to form a distinct phylogenetic lineage related to the family ‘<I>Flexibacteraceae</I>’ within the phylum ‘<I>Bacteroidetes</I>’. No recognized species showed >85 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to strain 4M15<SUP>T</SUP>. The fatty acid profile of strain 4M15<SUP>T</SUP> included C16 : 1<I>ω</I>7<I>c</I>/iso-C15 : 0 2-OH (30·5 %), iso-C15 : 0 (24·2 %), iso-C15 : 0 2-OH/C16 : 1<I>ω</I>7<I>c</I> (15·9), iso-C17 : 0 3-OH (10·5 %) and C16 : 0 (5·6 %). The major isoprenoid quinone was menaquinone MK-7. The DNA G+C content was 33·0 mol%. Cells were Gram-negative, strictly aerobic, rod-shaped, non-motile, catalase-positive, oxidase-positive and flexirubin-positive. The strain hydrolysed aesculin, gelatin, starch and tyrosine. Several phenotypic tests could be used to differentiate strain 4M15<SUP>T</SUP> from other members of the family ‘<I>Flexibacteraceae</I>’. On the basis of the data presented, strain 4M15<SUP>T</SUP> should be assigned to the phylum ‘<I>Bacteroidetes</I>’ as a novel genus and species, for which the name <I>Leadbetterella byssophila</I> gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 4M15<SUP>T</SUP> (=KACC 11308<SUP>T</SUP>=DSM 17132<SUP>T</SUP>).</P>

      • 活性炭에 依한 파라니트로페놀의 吸着特性

        Adsorption on activated carbon on the basis of an effective and widely used process for removing phenolic compounds from umnicipal and industrial waste waters has been studied. Although many adsorption studies have been reported concerning the removal of phenolic compounds from aqueous solution, there remains much to be solved. The liquid-solid reaction encountered in this study is usually complicated by the presence of resistances as a result of film diffusion across the external solid surface and particle diffusion through the pore of solid, it becomes necessary to establish the operating conditions that minimize the influences of film and particle diffusions. This study was attempted to eliminate these diffusional effects and to determine the rates of removal of para-nitrophenol by differential bed reactor approach. The results were as follows. 1) Under the conditions of flow rate of 450㎤/min, of average particle diameter of 0.387mm, and of reactor LD of 34mm, the diffusional resistances were minimized and the initial rate of para-nitrophenol removal was maximized. 2) The reaction kinetics study in this experiment showed that r = 0.111 C_e^1.184 - 0.0229 C_i^1.173q_e^0.187 3) The equilibrium adsorption studies supported the existence of the empirical Freundlich isotherm. The isotherm could be expressed as follows. q_s = 70.583C_s^1/1.521

        뇌폐흡충증으로 진단된 뇌농양 1례 보고

        Cerebral paragonimiasis, occurring as an extrapulmonary infestation, is one of the important intracranial lesions in Korea. In this paper we report a case of cerebral paragonimiasis which showed very similar C-T findings to pyogenic brain absence and was verified by pathologic research. Though we don't have much experiences in the diagnosis of the cereal paragonimiasis with C-T Scan, we found out some differences between pyogenic abscess and that due to cerebral paragonimiasis in several aspects.

        소아에 발생한 사대척색종 : 증례보고 A case Report

        The authors present a case of clival chordoma in a 13-year-old girl who presented with gradual onset of headache, diplopia and eyeball pain. On plain skull X-rays, there was mild bony erosion at the dorsum sella and clivus without calcification. CT scan revealed low density lesion without contrast enhancement. Angiography showed round posterior displacement of vertebral and basilar arteries, which is compatible with clival mass, without tumor staining.

        뇌하수체경을 침범한 Histiocytosis X : 증례 보고 Case Report

        A case of histiocytosis X with the involvement of pituitary stalk in a 5 year old boy was described. He presented with diabetes insipidus and the endocrinological study showed growth hormone deficiency. On computerized tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, the pituitary stalk was abnormally thick. Overlooking of the skull lesion on plain X-ray film led to an erroneous diagnosis of 'germ cell tumor'. Gross total removal of the lesion and chemotherapy were performed. In the differential diagnosis of suprasellar masses, this disease entity should be included. The importance of histological diagnosis of the infundibular lesion in cases of central diabetes insipidus is also emphasized.

        The arsenic(v) removal from aqueous solutions was undertaken with anion exchange resins using an intergral bed reactor ranging from 2.0㎝ to 8.0㎝ in height. The concentration in the feed solutions varied from 4.04mg As^5+/l to 20.37mg As^5+/l. Generally, the liquid-solid type reaction is complicated by the presence of resistance as a result of film diffusion across the external solid surface. Therefore, this diffusion influence should be minimized to establish the optimal operating conditions as much as possible. Under the condition of flow rate of 418㎤, the diffusional resistance was minimized and the initial rate of arsenic(v) removal was maximized. The effect of pH on the removal of arsenic(v) was investigated and it was found that maximum adsorption occurred above pH 7.0. Therefore, the pH was adjusted at 7.3 in subsequent experiments. From batch studies an empirical Freundlich isotherm could be expressed as follows : q_e = 12.3C_e^(1/1.01) The reaction kinetics studied in this experiment may be summarized as follows : r = 0.087 C_a^1.3 - 0.320 q_a^0.21

        마취된 흰쥐 해마신경세포에서 Neurobiotion 이온주입으로 인한 신경세포의 생리적 특성의 변화

        마취된 흰쥐를 사용하여 해마의 CA영역에 위치한 피라밋 세포들의 세포막 특성을 in vivo의 세포내 기록법에 의해서 관찰한 후 2.5% neurobiotin을 세포내 기록용 미세전극에 채워 세포내로 충진시킨후 충진전과 동일한 실험순서로 반응을 다시 관찰하고 ABC kit를 이용하여 면역조직염색을 행하여 형태학적인 관찰을 하였다. 피라밋세포의 세포내 반응 특성은 높은 휴지막 세포막전위, 낮은 input resistance 그리고 큰 활동전위를 가졌다. neurobiotin 충진 전·후에 따른 세포막 특성의 변화는 sustained AHP의 duration과 amplitude, input resistance. 그리고 세포외 및 세포내 자극에 따른 AP 수에서 유의한 차이를 보였고(P<0.05). 세포외 자극에 의한 억제는 주로 전반부에 나타났으며 CA3 영역에 위치한 이 세포의 형태학적 관찰 결과 세포체는 피라밋층에서 분명한 피라미드 형태를 띄고 있었고, 기저 및 선단 가지가 각각 백색판층 및 섬유방-분자층까지 뻗어 있어으며 축삭은 겉질을 향해 기저가지 돌기면에서 수직으로 뻗어 있었다. 해마의 주세포인 피라밋세포의 세포막 특성과 세포내 염색지시체(marker)로 주로 쓰이는 neurobiotin에 의해 세포막 특성중 일부가 변화됨을 알 수 있었고, 뇌내의 신경세포연결망이 완전히 보존되어 세포들 사이에 시냅스관계를 추측할 수 있는 in vivo 실험 모델이 응용될 수 있음을 제시하였다. Pyramidal cells in the hippocampal CA area were recorded from and filled with neurobiotin in anesthetized rats. The extent of their dendrites and the electropharmacological properties of membrane as well as the effect before and after neurobiotion injection were examined. Pyramidal cells had a high resting membrane potential, a low input resistance, and a large amplitude action potential. A afterhyperpolarization was followed a single action potential. Most pyramidal cells did not display a spontaneous firing. Pyramidal cell displayed weak inward rectification and anodal break excitation in response to negative current injection into the cell. Membrane properties of recorded neurons before and after neurobiotin injection with consecutive current injection were compared. Some properties were significantly increased after labelling(P>0.05) ; the duration and amplitude of sustained AHP, input resistance, and the number of action potentials for simultaneous intra-and extracellular stimulations. Neurobiotin-filled neurons showed pyramidal morphology. Cells were generally bipolar dendrite processes ramifying in stratum lacunosum-moleculare, radiatum, and oriens.
