URANUS (Ubiquitous, Robust, Accident-forgiving, Non-proliferating, Ultra-lasting and Sustainer) has been developed with 35MWe (100MWth) operating without primary coolant pump, capitalizing on natural circulation capability of lead-bismuth eutectic (LBE) for long-life small and robust power units. To ensure the structural integrity, the large safety margin against Safe Shutdown Earthquake, 0.3g, and furthermore the cost effectiveness for URANUS, three-dimensional seismic base isolation design has been developed. The analytical model has been developed and seismic time history analyses have been carried out. The advantage for using three-dimensional seismic base isolation for URANUS has been discussed.

A singular perturbation method is applied to design a control system in P-DEMO fast nuclear reactor power plant. The basic concept of singular perturbation method is causing a multi-time-scale behavior of dynamic system characterized by the presence of both slow and fast transients in the system response to external stimuli. The controller is designed from the simplified fast nuclear reactor system model which has been approximated and changed into singular perturbation standard form. Optimal control design may then proceed for each lower order system. and the results combined to yield a composite control for the original system. In this paper a structural safety evaluation was performed for the pressurizer spray line and spray nozzle under operating condition of lower temperature than low-temperature alarm setpoint. Current differential temperature was 18℉ and present is 54℉ during pressurizer spray. In order to evaluate structural integrity on that system with the present condition, thermal fatigue and thermal stress were analyzed using ANSYS code and accordance with ASME section III relating sections of the piping and nozzles. The results of thermal fatigue and thermal stress are acceptable with well below design criteria which 3 times of allowable stress and ASME Sec III Appendix I-9 S-N fatigue curve, respectively.

In this study, the effects of triaxial stress was investigated in terms of primary water stress corrosion susceptibility. Thermally aged Alloy 600 specimens were prepared via accelerated heat treatment at 400 ℃ which is one of the highest temperature which will not cause the formation of excessive carbides or precipitates which will not be formed at nuclear power plant primary circuit environment. Triaxial stress was then applied by making round notch at the surface of round tensile specimen. The crack initiation time ere measured in-situ by direct current potential drop method during slow strain rate test at primary water condition. At the notched specimen, cracks were mainly observed at the region where shear stress is focused. Also, the stair shape of fracture surface was observed, which might cause by enhanced localized plasticity and multiple number of activated slip system under triaxial stress state.
