Natural gas and biomass represent non-conventional hydrocarbon feedstocks that ultimately require either dehydrogenation or deoxygenation for the synthesis of commodity chemicals and fuels. Co-processing of methane and biomass would enable the synthesis of fuels with a greater degree of saturation compared to those produced from methane or biomass alone. Methane dehydroaromatization (MDA) represents a direct route for methane activation to produce aromatics and hydrogen. In this work, co-processing of methane and oxygenates to couple deoxygenation and dehydrogenation reaction sequences was accomplished using Mo/HZSM-5 catalyst. The effect of oxygenates co-feeding on the product formation rate, selectivity and catalyst stability in the MDA reaction will be presented. The catalyst structure and active species will be characterized by a number of complementary techniques, allowing correlation of the catalytic behavior as a function of the physicochemical properties of the catalysts.
Robust Catalysts for Dehydrogenation of Alkylaromatics Using CO2 as a Soft Oxidant

Production of Alkenylaromatics such as styrene is very energy-consumable process. It iscommercially operated with a large excess of superheated steam as a diluent using potassiumpromoted iron oxide catalysts. Therefore lots of efforts have been for reduce it and replace with CO2. We have also studied that carbon dioxide can play a role as the soft oxidant in the oxidative conversions of several hydrocarbons. Moreover, it was found that CO2 can suppress the total oxidation in the oxidative coupling of methane and alkylaromatics together with the increase of selectivity and the low rate of coke formation.
Maleic Acid의 Pd/C 촉매상 저압 수소화 반응의 반응 기구에 관한 연구

Pb/C 촉매를 이용한 maleic acid의 수용액 중 저압 수소화 반응의 특성을 파악하기 위하여 수소압력, 반응온도, 반응물 농도, 촉매량 및 교반속도 등의 공정변수를 변화시켜 가면서 반응 속도와 생성물 분포에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. maleic acid의 수소화 반응에서 succinic acid, fumaric acid 및 malic acid가 얻어졌고 산업적 공정조건에서 물질전달의 제한을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 본래적인 반응특성을 보면, maleic acid의 수소화 반응에서 succinic acid와 fumaric acid의 생성속도가 수소압, 촉매양, 온도와 반응물 농도에 비례하여 증가하였으나 malic acid의 생성속도는 이와 다른 경향을 보였으며, 이로부터 maleic acid의 저압 수소화 반응에 대한 반응기구를 제시하였다. Hydrogenation reactions of maleic acid over Pd/C at a lower pressure were performed in aqueous solution while varying the hydrogen pressure, reaction temperature, reactant concentration, catalyst loading, and agitation speed and the effects on the reaction rate and product distribution were examined. Intrinsic reaction characteristics were studied from the results of reaction performed at higher agitation speed than that of industrial reaction condition. Succinic acid, fumaric acid and malic acid were obtained from the reaction. Both rates of formation of succinic acid and fumaric acid increased with hydrogen pressure and catalyst amount while that of malic acid a showed different trend, from which a mechanism for hydrogenation of maleic acid was suggested.

Over V-Sb-O/Al₂O₃ catalyst, substantially higher (~ 20 - 60% in relative) conversions of initial hydrocarbons and yields of corresponding alkenylbenzenes have been achieved under the dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene, iso- and n-propylbenzenes, 1,4-diethylbenzene and 4-ethyltoluene in the presence of carbon dioxide, compared to those in inert atmosphere, due to promotional oxidative functions of CO₂ to alleviate the dehydrogenation equilibrium as well as to maintain V-sites in active oxidation state, V^(5+).
방사성 유기요오드 제거를 위한 다공성 탄소복합체 제조 연구

핵폭발 또는 원전사고 시 누출될 수 있는 가스상 방사성요오드는 인체에 유해한 물질로 일부는 탄화수소와 결합하여 CH<sub>3</sub>I의 형태로 흡착제거가 어렵다. CH<sub>3</sub>I의 흡착제거 효율을 향상시키기 위하여 CH<sub>3</sub>I와 결합하여 안정한 형태의 암모늄염을 형성하는 TEDA(triethylenediamine)를 함침한 활성탄을 사용한다. 표면적이 크고 기공도가 조절된 활성탄, TEDA(triethylenediamine)의 함침 방법과 함침양의 최적화를 통한 탄소계 흡착제를 개발하기 위한 연구를 진행하였다. 활성탄의 표면적과 기공도를 향상시키기 위하여 steam과 CO<sub>2</sub>를 이용하여 최적의 활성화 조건을 확인하였다. 기존의 활성탄이 약 1000m2/g 정도의 표면적을 가지는데 비해 steam 활성화의 경우 mesopore가 발달된 활성탄으로 약 1430㎡/g의 표면적을 나타내었고, CO<sub>2</sub> 활성화의 경우 micropore가 발달된 활성탄으로 1770㎡/g의 표면적을 나타내었다. 또한 표면적이 높은 활성탄에 TEDA를 담지한 촉매를 사용하였을 때 CH<sub>3</sub>I의 흡착제거 효율이 향상됨을 확인 하였다.
실차시험 기반 CVT 차량의 내구 모드 구성에 관한 연구

Durability evaluation tests take a considerable amount of time and money during the development stage of automobile parts. Recently, as the demand for shared vehicles and special-purpose vehicles increases, the need for an endurance mode that is different from the conventional endurance test is required. In this study, the relative damage of a CVT-equipped shared vehicle and damage incurred when using a vehicle simulator are compared. The number of repetitions of the endurance test mode, which inflicts the same relative damage in the transmission input shaft and wheel driving shaft, were calculated. Finally, we present an effective method of validating the endurance mode of a shared vehicle.

In an automatic transmission vehicle, a torque converter is installed to reduce engine torque fluctuation and to improve the vehicle’s drivability and durability of drive system. In most operating conditions except starting and shifting, the damper clutch is engaged to enhance fuel economy. However, in response to the increasing demand for fuel economy, damper clutch engagement is required at a low gear step or the engagement force margin is reduced. Frequent lock-up and abnormal vibrations increase the slip of the friction surface, generating excessive heat. The friction coefficient consequently becomes small, which further exacerbates the slip phenomenon. In this study, the effect of the reduced friction coefficient due to the deterioration of the damper clutch on the stability of the judder is analyzed in terms of vehicle dynamics and vibrations. A method for early detection of judder stability degradation due to damper clutch deterioration is also described.
