글로벌 대학에서 효과적인 영어강의를 위한 혼합형 학습 연구

전통적 교수법을 사용하는 영어수업의 경우, 학생들의 언어적인 장벽을 고려하면 전공내용을 효과적으로 전달하는 데에 큰 어려움이 있다. 또한, 단순히 영어로 명시적인 지식전달을 한다고 해서 영어능력과 전공지식이 더욱 향상 되거나, 글로벌 인재로서의 품성이 함양되는 것이 아니다. 본 연구에서는 혼합형 학습으로 기존의 교수법에 변화를 주어 영어강의의 효과성을 높이려 한 사례를 소개하고 효과성을 검증하였다. 이를 위해 지방 소재의 글로벌 대학에서 2016년 2학기(전통적 교수법으로 강의), 2017년 2학기(혼합형 학습 적용)에 영어강의를 열고 수강생 총 94명(2016년 24명, 2017년 70명)에 대한 데이터를 추출하였다. 혼합형 학습의 효과성 분석을 위하여 두 강의에 대한 수업만족도와 학업성취도를 비교분석 하였으며, 혼합형학습의 학업성취도에 영향을 미치는 요인을 검증하기 위하여 2017년 수강생의 데이터로 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 혼합형 학습이 수업만족도에는 유의한 차이를 만들어내지 않았지만, 학업성취도는 유의하게 향상시킨 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 혼합형 학습에서 학업 성취도에 영향을 미치는 요인으로는 수강생의 GPA와 수업태도가 유의미한 것으로 나타났다. Using traditional pedagogy for English-medium instruction in Korea comes with great challenges. Conveying the subject content effectively is made difficult due to the perceived and actual language barriers in students. Moreover, this article argues that merely delivering content knowledge in the English language defeats the very purpose of English-medium instruction, which is to foster global leadership skills in students. This study evaluated the effectiveness of an English-mediated course conducted via blended learning format in a global university located in South Korea. A total of 94 students (24 students in 2016, 70 students in 2017) participated in a developmental psychology course taught in 2016 (traditional lecture format) and 2017 (blended learning format). Course satisfaction ratings and course grades from the two semesters were compared to ascertain the effectiveness of the blended learning format. R esults indicated no significant differences in the overall course satisfaction between the semesters, but showed a significant increase in course grades for students who participated in the blended learning course. Multiple regression analysis was further conducted for the blended learning course data in order to examine the factors that influenced student course grades. Students’ overall GPA and course attitude were found to be significant factors that influenced their academic achievement in blended learning.

Queueing models have been used to model library management system for about 40 years. While the analytic solutions of the models provide intuition to understand various performance measures of the library system, it is difficult to employ the queueing models to optimization problems due to its complexities. In this paper, we studies the optimization problems in library management by employing M/G/c/c queueing models. To estimate the probability that arrivals find all books unavailable(loss probability), Erlang loss formula in M/G/c/c queue is used. The mathematical model developed here is to decide number of books to buy to ensure a given service quality. Since Erlang loss formula is a nonlinear function of system loading and number of server, the problem belongs to the domain of nonlinear optimization problem. To find an optimal solution, a dynamic programming of the 0-1 Knapsack problem is employed.

The number of elderly populations in South Korea has increased by nearly 3 million in the last 10 years in 2020. This increasing trend is expected to continue. The increase in elderly population leads to an increase in the number of elderly drivers which also increases the risk of traffic accidents every year. Traffic accidents involving elderly pedestrians are increasing as well. However, Korean society has yet to recognize the seriousness of elderly-related traffic accidents. Recently, municipal governments have implemented various policies, such as voluntary return of licenses, for elderly drivers, but they have not been able to take proper measures. Pohang City is also conducting voluntary return of driver’s licenses to senior citizens aged 65 or older, but their effectiveness is low. Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, where Pohang belongs, is already super-aged with an aging rate of more than 20 percent. Therefore, it is essential to manage elderly people who are vulnerable to traffic accidents.
