This paper presents to analyze patterns from single and complex malodors using gas sensor array based on metal oxide semiconductors. The aim of research is to identify and discriminate single malodors such as NH3, CH3SH and H2S and their mixtures according to concentration levels. Measurement system for analyzing patterns from malodors is constructed by an array of metal oxide semiconductor sensors which are available commercially together with associate electronics. The patterns from sensory system are analyzed by Principal Component Analysis (PCA) which is simple statistical pattern recognition technique. Throughout the experimental trails, we confirmed the experimental procedure for measurement system such as sensors calibration time and gas flow rate, and discriminated malodors using pattern analysis technique.

고객을 지속적으로 충성하도록 잡아 두는 방법은 무엇이 있을까? 그것은 고객이 지불한 금액 대비 고객이 얻는 가치가 더 클 때 만족감을 느끼게 되고 기꺼이 재구매를 하게 될 것이다. 좀더 구체적으로 말하면, 차별화된 제품과 서비스로 고객이 높은 가격을 주고도 충분히 구매할 의사가 있는 제품을 만들어 내야 하는 것이다. 그야말로 의도된 품질의 제품을 의도된 가격으로 적기에 만들어 낼 수 있는 능력이 필요한 것이다. 사실 기업의 수익구조를 지속적으로 유지하는 길은 이렇듯 시장을 리딩하는 제품과 서비스를 발굴해 내는 것도 있겠지만, 또 다른 방법은 지불하지 않아도 될 품질낭비 비용(COPQ: Cost of Poor Quality)을 획기적으로 줄여 원가를 절감하는 방안도 있다. 오늘날 보통의 기업들은 산업 평균 품질수준이 3~4 시그마 수준이라고 하며 3시그마 이하의 기업은 생존하지 못한다고 한다. 3시그마인 기업의 경우 불량률이 백만개 당 66,800개로 백분율로는 6.68%(양품율은 93.32%)가 되며 품질 낭비 비용은 매출액의 25-40%에 달하는 것으로 알려져 있으니 어떻게 경쟁에서 이길 수 있겠는가? 바로 이 품질낭비 비용을 획기적으로 줄이는 활동이 6시그마인 것이다. 백만개 당 3.4개의 불량만을 생산하는 6시그마 수준의 품질은 거의 무결점에 가까운 것이며 기업이 궁극적으로 추구해야 할 최고의 가치이다. 인간은 전통적으로 변화를 싫어한다고 한다. 6시그마가 조직의 문화로 정착되기 위해서는 챔피언과 마스터 블랙벨트, 블랙벨트들이 중심이 되어 열정과 정성으로 다듬고 가꾸어 나가야 한다. It`s saying that the most powerful species in the world is neither the strongest nor the fastest but the one which can be adapted to the changeable environment can survive for the longest time. As British biologist Charles Robert Darwin(1809~1882) referred at evolution theory, the most powerful survival method to preserve species is facing to changeable environment wisely and this is why all the enterprises try to keep the change continually. One of the most remarkable management renovation methodology is 6 Sigma. 6 Sigma which began from manufacturing industry is being widely applied to even the service and medical industry including research-development, business indirectness, finance and IT. 6 Sigma defines nature of matter from VOC & VOB point of view and settles it by statistical means so that it makes qualified management with high confidence possible with removing COPQ(Cost Of Poor Quality) through accumulated data analysis and intensively settling by finding core factor for the goal achievement.

MPEG-V(ISO/IEC 23005) standardizes normative sensory effects metadata and sensory devices command for adapting the sensory effects between the virtual world and the real world. MPEG-V(Virtual) standardization has been carried out by 3DG(Dimensional Graphics) ad-hoc group inside MPEG Working Group(ISO IEC JTC1/SC29/WG11). For the scent effect, one of the sensory effects within MPEG-V, we proposed an olfactory interaction model including electronic nose and scent display to the ad-hoc group. Recently, we proposed types and elements related to the electronic nose as a sensor defined in MPEG-V standard for olfactory interaction. At the 114th MPEG meeting, the types and elements were consequently reflected on MPEG-V CD(Committee Draft) 4th edition. In this paper, we implement an electronic nose system applicable to MPEG-V standard by using MPEG-V schema, encoder, and decoder in order to assess their adequacy.
MPEG-UD 표준 요소 검증을 위한 콘텍스트 기반 추천 시스템 구현

The MPEG user description (MPEG-UD) which is a standard under exploration to ensure interoperability among customized recommendation services has been contributed since MPEG 104th meeting at 2013. Twenty-two use cases that were divided into different applications have been proposed in the MEPG meetings. Most of use cases were referred to specific and restricted regarding to applications, it appears to miss an overall and explicit infra-structure. In this paper we describe a reference model, namely methodology overcome aforementioned problems. Thereafter, we have applied reference model to context-based recommendation system to demonstrate the methodology and MPEG-UD schemas. In addition, we propose a development process of recommendation system in compliance with MPEG-UD.
유클리디언 거리 기반의 단계적 소거 방법을 통한 화학센서 어레이 성능 최적화

In order to prevent drink-driving by detecting concentration of alcohol from driver`s exhale breath, twenty chemical sensors fabricated. The one of purposes for sensor array which consists of those sensors is to discriminate between target gas(alcohol) and interference gases(CH3CH2OH, CO, NOx, Toluene, and Xylene). Wilks`s lambda was presented to achieve above purpose and optimal sensors were selected using the method. In this paper, step-wise sensor elimination based on Euclidean distance was investigated for selecting optimal sensors and compared with a result of Wilks`s lambda method. The selectivity and sensitivity of sensor array were used for comparing performance of sensor array as a result of two methods. The data acquired from selected sensor were analyzed by pattern analysis methods, principal component analysis and Sammon`s mapping to analyze cluster tendency in the low space (2D). The sensor array by stepwise sensor elimination method had a better sensitivity and selectivity compared to a result of Wilks`s lambda method.

Sensor arrays based on chemical sensors produce multidimensional patterns of data that may be used discriminate between different chemicals. For the human observer, visualization of multidimensional data is difficult, since the eye and brain pro-cess visual information in two or three dimensions. To devise a simple means of data inspection from the response of sensor arrays, PCA (Principal Component Analysis) or Sammon`s nonlinear mapping technique can be applied. The PCA, which is a well-known statistical method and widely used in data analysis, has disadvantages including data distortion and the axes for plotting the dimensionally reduced data have no physical meaning in terms of how different one cluster is from another. In this paper, we have investigated two techniques and proposed a combination technique of PCA and nonlinear Sammom mapping for visualization of multidimensional patterns to two dimensions using data sets from odor sensing system. We conclude the combination technique has shown more advantages comparing with the PCA and Sammon nonlinear technique individually.
