Rotating Biological Contactor (RBC) was tested for the treatment of artificial rearing water in a simulated aquaculture system. Performance of RBC on the removal of TAN and COD was evaluated by controlling hydraulic residence time (HRT). As HRT of RBC was increased, TAN removal rate and removal efficiency of RBC and TAN concentration of rearing water were increased, but COD removal rate was decreased. Total alkalinity consumption rate was increased by increasing HRT of RBC. Ratio between total alkalinity consumption rate and TAN removal rate was 7.73. HRT for maintaining lowest TAN and COD concentration of artificial rearing water was 14.6 minutes and at that condition TAN and COD concentration of the water was 1.28 and 5.59g/㎥, respectively.
알송이 모자반 , Sargassum confusum 을 이용한 Pb 및 Cr 의 생물학적 흡착 및 탈착

우리나라 인근 해역에서 가장 쉽게 채취할 수 있는 해조류 중의 하나인 S. confusum을 이용한 Pb 및 Cr의 생체흡착 실험을 수행 하였다. 두 중금속 모두 흡착 평형에는 15분 안에 도달하였으며, 평형 흡착량은 각각 197.5㎎ Pb/g biomass 및 133.1㎎ Cr/g biomass이었다. Pb 및 Cr의 생물학적 흡착은 Langmuir모델에 더 잘 적용되었다. Pb 흡착시에 Ca가 500m/L 존재하여도 20% 정도 흡착량이 감소하였고, Mg는 Pb 흡착에 전혀 영향을 미치지 않았다. Pb 및 Cr 흡착 후에 0.1 M HCl, 0.1M HNO₃및 0.1 M EDTA를 이용하여 탈착시 Pb의 탈착율은 93% 이상이었으나, Cr의 탈착율은 30% 이하였다. Pb 흡착 후에 0.1M HCl, 0.1 M HNO₃, 0.1 M EDTA 및 0.1 M NaOH를 이용하여 탈착실험을 수행하고 다시 재흡착을 시키는 과정을 6회 반복한 결과 최대 누적 흡착량은 761.4㎎/g biomass였고. HCl 및 HNO₃를 이용한 경우에 Pb의 탈착 및 S. confusum의 재생에 있어 매우 효과적이었다. The adsorption parameters for Pb and Cr were determined according to the Langmuir and Freundlich model. Biosorption of Pb and Cr was increased with the increase of pH value. Pb and Cr adsorbed by S. confusum could be recovered by desorption process with 0.1 M HCl, 0.1 M HNO₃and 0.1 M EDTA. The ratio of Pb desorption was above 93%, whereas the ratio of Cr desorption was below 30%.

Biosorption of Pb to Sargassum horneri was evaluated. An adsorption equilibrium was reached in about 15 min. for Pb und Pb uptake was 185.5 ㎎ Pb/g biomass. When Ca and ㎎ concentration increases in Pb solution, Pb was selectively adsorbed. The Pb adsorbed by S. horneri could be recovered by desorption process, and the desorption efficiency of Pb by 0.1 M HCl, 0.1 M HNO₃, and 0.1 M EDTA was above 95, whereas the elution by 0.1 M NaOH was less efficient in the desorption of Pb. S. horned was reused 6 cycle repeatedly after adsorption/desorption and the sum of uptake was 636.6 ㎎ Pb/g biomass.

A study was carried out to investigate the losses of sediment at a paddy plot located at the southern Korea. The observed amount of precipitation, irrigation, runoff for the experimental paddy plot during the cropping period were 1,030, 566, and 701 mm in 1999 and 1,214, 413, and 710 mm in 2000, respectively. The observed sediment losses from the plot during cropping period were 1,221.3 kg ha^-1 in 1999 and 1,274 kg/ha kg ha^-1 in 2000, respectively.

Biosorption of Pb and Cr was increased with an increase in pH value. Pb and Cr adsorbed by S. sagamianum could be recovered by desorption process with 0.1M HCl, 0.1M HNO₃ and 0.1M EDTA and the efficiency of Pb desorption was above 90%, whereas the efficiency of Cr desorption was below 51%.

In order to investigate the effects of moisture content and compaction energy on the unconfined compressive strength of soil-cement mixtures, a labortory test for soil-cement mixtures was performed at three levels of cement content, five levels of moisture content and six levels of compaction energy. The results are summarized as follows: 1. The unconfined compressive strength of soil-cement mixtures was increased with the compaction energy increased. The increase of unconfined compressive strength was clearly observed until the compaction number became twenty-five, and also the effect of compaction was remarkable when cement content was in high level. 2. The maximum unconfined compressive strength was observed when moisture content of the soil-cement mixtures was higher than the optimum moisture content. 3. The effect of compaction was more conspicuously observed in the case which moisture content was higher than the optimum. 4. The specific gravity of soil-cement mixtures was almost proportionally increased until cement content was increased to 8 percent, but it was kept approximately constant at the cement content of above 8 percent.
질화세균군이 고정화된 PVA (Polyvinyl Alcohol) bead 제조 및 암모니아성 질소 제거

Immobilized nitrifier bead in airlift bioreactor were used to remove high levels of ammonia nitrogen from synthetic wastewater. Polyvinylalcohol (PVA) bead for immmobilization of nitrifier consortium were prepared by PVA-boric acid method by varying concentration of PVA and nitrifier consortium. By determining viscosity, sphercity and tailing, the characteristics of prepared beads were investigated and the continous immobilization process was developed. Synthetic wastewater containg 25g/㎥ of ammonia nitrogen could be treated within 0.5 hour and the highest removal rate of ammonia nitrogen was 934.2g/㎥ ·day.

Nitrifier consortium immobilized in polyvinyl alcohol was used for the removal of ammonia nitrogen from synthetic aquaculture water in the airlift bioreactor. At the aeration rate of 0.15 vvm and bead packing volume fraction of 20%, airlift bioreactor was operated effectively for a removal of ammonia nitrogen and for a stability of operation. Ammonia nitrogen removal rate by airlift bioreactor was continuously increased with decreasing hydraulic residence time. At the HRT(hydraulic residence time) of 0.3 hour, ammonia nitrogen removal rate was 84.3 g/㎥·d and the highest ammonia nitrogen removal rate was 130.8 g/㎥·d when HRT was 0.1 hour.
