Objective: Unperforated and perforated acute appendicitis need to be differentiated because appendicitis with a free perforation requires an emergency operation to prevent contamination inside the bowel from spreading into the peritoneal cavity. The sensitivity of imaging tests is not reliable enough alone for determining the existence of a perforation. The aim of this study was to determine the differences in laboratory values between unperforated and perforated acute appendicitis to help distinguish perforated acute appendicitis. Methods: The laboratory values and demographic data of a total of 175 patients who visited the emergency room and were diagnosed with acute appendicitis were collected. The time elapsed from symptom presentation to the ER visit, length of admission, patient demographics, and laboratory values, including sex, age, leukocyte count, neutrophil %, neutrophil count, C-reactive protein (CRP), platelet count, prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time, international normalized ratio (INR), serum glucose, blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, total and direct bilirubin, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, and gamma-glutamyltransferase were analyzed. Results: The factors associated with appendix perforations were an elevated leukocyte count, neutrophil count, neutrophil %, CRP, serum glucose and total bilirubin; and delayed PT and INR. Conclusion: Acute appendicitis patients without definite imaging evidence of the perforation but with the laboratory values suggesting a perforation, such as elevated leukocyte count, neutrophil count, neutrophil %, CRP, serum glucose, and total bilirubin; and delayed PT, and INR should raise concern for a possible undiscovered perforation.

The current paper presents the results of parametric analyses on the stress intensity factor (SIF) of railways with inclined cracks under rolling contact fatigue (RCF). A 3D finite element (FE) model was proposed to demonstrate the shear mechanism in RCF. The feasibility of the suggested numerical model was verified through the SIF (K) obtained from advanced 3D FE analysis compared with existing 2D FE results. Based on the series of FE analyses, the sensitivity analysis on the cracked depth, surface/crack friction coefficients, and inclined angle, which mainly affected SIF history at the cracked tip, was examined. SIF distributions for various locations of the wheel along the cracked tip were also presented.

Many researchers have proved that risk measurement of information systems is a very effective tool for improving confidence of information systems. However, information system risk in Korea still includes many subjective judgements. This study deals with applying a quantitative model to improve risk measurement of information system quality. First of all, we have come up with solutions to improve the evaluation efficiency on risk measurement. We have merged the risk guidelines of COBIT and CMM, and developed a quantified evaluation scheme that call by risk point. We have proved the validity of this model by interviews with experts and by case studies.

Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship (QSAR) have been established of 57 fluorovinyloxyacetamides compounds to correlate and predict EC50 values. Genetic algorithm (GA) and multiple linear regression analysis were used to select the descriptors and to generate the equations that relate the structural features to the biological activities. This equation consists of three descriptors calculated from the molecular structures with molecular mechanics and quantum-chemical methods. The results of MLR and GA show that dipole moment of z-axis, radius of gyration and logP play an important role in growth inhibition of barnyard grass.

In multibody dynamic analysis, one of the most important problems is to reduce computation times for real-time simulation. This paper presents the derivation procedure of equations of motion of a 6${\times}$6 autonomous vehicle in terms of chassis local coordinates which do not require coordinates transformation matrix to enhance efficiency for real-time dynamic analysis. Also, equations of motion are derived using the VT(velocity transformation) technique and symbolic computation method coded by MATLAB. The Jacobian matrix of the equations of motion of a system is derived from symbolic operations to apply the implicit integration method. The analysis results were compared with ADAMS results to verify the accuracy and approve the feasibility of real time analysis.
