Niki de Saint Phalle maintained ongoing communication with the public with great humanity, focusing on environmentally-friendly work. De Saint Phalle was an artist who boldly displayed new techniques by introducing the flatness of painting to human figure sculpture. She observed nature with a pure soul and dared to use bright, strong primary colors. She was chosen because such colors were directly used in body art. Among them, this study attempted to analyze the formative features of the images, focusing on those from the middle and late periods, which escaped from the era of resistance. This study aimed to expand body art as a new beauty art genre and search for future-oriented directions for further development by analyzing the shapes and colors of environmentally-friendly organic bodies and applying the diverse derived motives to the design of body art images through Niki de Saint Phalle’s work. For this, choreographers were made to dance after being body-painted through collaboration among art, beauty and dance genres, which in turn helped them communicate with the audience and improve intimacy, further increasing the value of body art. In the future, there should be further attempts for collaboration with the performing arts such as fashion and architecture.

Drawing upon Jacques Derrida’s “deconstructionist” concept of body art, this thesis attempts to examine “deconstructionism” from a different, unique perspective. From this, it is hoped that varied interpretations of its meaning and expression can be appreciated. Derrida’s ‘deconstruction’ concept encourages artists to explore a new way of thinking that makes the viewer feel as if “one is always on the move” through the use of thoughtful and detailed analysis of the objects without excluding its concepts and language. Body art has its limitations and drawbacks- namely, a temporary product of art, a limited exposure of object (model), and an inability to preserve art for a long period of time. The study of body art needs to develop a new relationship f imaginative expression from the traditional shapes through insights of Derrida’s theory of ‘deconstruction’. It re-defines the conformity in shape, freedom in imaginative expression, colorful illustration of setting design and exhibition, and a prolonged means of preserving the art product. It allows the artist to “deconstruct” objects by manipulating its surface and skin, then develop and expand its products in order to pave the way to the next step, which enhances the beauty of body art. body art provides a unique artistic sense of ermanently preserving body art, shedding new insight and giving a greater appreciation of body art.

The adoption of object is the extension of the expressive realm and thinking system. In fact, it was an innovative incident that transformed the formative principles of the fine arts. Since ready-made goods were introduced by Dadaists in the early 20th century, the meaning of the object has developed in a highly diverse fashion. A century later, the ‘object’ is one of the key words in cosmetology. For cosmetologists, creativity is a critical mental factor that can become new inspiration for hairstyling, makeup and nail art. They target the creation of new beauty arts by applying diverse objects to the human body. In terms of research methods, this study attempted to analyze materials that can create beauty arts through diverse literature reviews and object-related exhibitions and work. In the beauty arts, object becomes a means to expand materials, types and functions as a change in stimulating aesthetic perceptions. It is anticipated that this study can facilitate the search for future-oriented directions in body art, hair shows, nail arts and beauty makeup and further increase their artistic values through a paradigm shift based on the diversity of beauty objects.

Purpose of the Research the research aims to evaluate urban renewal program of large-scale low-density apartment complexes for 100,000 households in the Southeastern area of Seoul in terms of residential environment quality, housing supply effect, and sound urban development. And, the research identifies public responses on the planning process and proposes to improve urban renewal program by compare before and after under the existing low. To improve quality of residential environment, it focuses on the quality of residential environment above a certain level. Then, in terms of strengthening the housing supply effect, it emphasizes stabilization of housing market and benefits of the residents. Next, to induce sound urban development, it checks the consistency with balanced regional development and urban management policies of Seoul Metropolitan government. 2. Reseach findings:Positive and negative aspects of urban renewal program, and effects of public responses Positive aspects include realization of high-density land use suitable to the areal characteristics, supply of plenty of housing stocks (33,000 housing units), and raise up of regional image. Negative aspects contain large-scale reduction of small-size housing stocks (39,000 units) resulting in the shortage of affordable housing and deepening of regional disparity widening income ifferential between southeastern part of Seoul and the rest. Effects of public responses includes application of F.A,R. 270~285% downed from 400% by Seoul Metropolitan Government, induction of forming pedestrian green network on the ground level by accommodating underground parking garage in the planning process. and installment of Committee on Time Adjustment of Urban Renewal Projects from 2002 to 2004, preventing concentration of many renewal projects at the same time and dispersing them. At first, in order to keep residential environment at a certain level maximum of F.A.R. applies below 250 percent while mailtaining existing zoning. This rule must keep even when incentive is given due to the provision of public rental housing. Then, it is encouraged development of adequate density in the existing superblock with each side less than 250m by laying out roads appropriately. Next, current system is amended to secure affordable housing in response to the recent housing demand. In terms of the regulation for size distribution, it is proposed to be amended to floor space less than 40㎡(60%) and less than 60㎡(40%) from that less than 60㎡(60%) and less than 85㎡(40%), while the public take the whole responsibility for public rental housing. Then, there still exists several large-scale low-density apartment complexes designated as urban renewal area and 59,000 housing units are estimated to be constructed by these complexes. Thus, the research suggests the installment of Committee on Time Adjustment of Urban Renewal Projects and the size of renewal should be no more than 3,000 units. Finally, Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) should pursue affordable housing policy in the southeastern area of Seoul for the balanced regional development, especially promoting supply with small-sized housing. Thus, SMG should give priority on affordable housing policy in this area.
