        조종천의 (朝宗川) 수서곤충 (水棲昆蟲)

        This study was conducted for the species of aquatic insects in Jo Jong river on May 27th and July 28th, 1973. 1. The collected species are 40 species belonging 17 families and 7 orders. 2. The orders of Ephemeroptera and Tricoptera are more frequency than that of others. 3. The dominant Species are Epeorus latifolium, Stenopsyche griseipennis and Parastenopsyche sauteri and the rare species is Macronema radiatum. 4. By this results, it find that Epeorus latifolium, Stenopsyche griseipennis and Parastenopsyche sauteri are fond of the upper river, and Macronema radiat um isfond of the flat stream.

        억새초지의 탄소대사에 관한 연구

        For the assessment of the gross metabolism in a grassland of Miscanthus sinensis in Maseoguri area, the assimilation and dissimilation of carbon in this grassland were investigated. T he results obtained in this study can be summarized as follows: 1. The photosynthetic rate at 300 ppm CO₂ and 30℃ was saturated with a light of about 50 klux in the field. 2. The photosynthetic rate at 50 klux and 30℃ was not saturated with a CO₂ concentration is the atmosphere. 3. The optimal temperature for photosynthesis was found to be approximately 35℃. 4. The leaves of Miscanthus sinensis which were located at the 5th and 6th nodes showed the maximum photosynthetic rates. 5. The peak productivity of the above-ground parts was 30.66g/㎡/day from July to August and that of the under-ground parts was 3.76g/㎡/day from August to September. 6. The time periods required for decomposition of 50%, 95% and 99% of initial organic carbon in the litter were 0.9, 4.0 and 6.7 years, respectively.

        한국의 온도기후와 생물의 계절변화

        The phenological phenomena in terms of year day index (YDI) in South Korea were studied. The YDI was proposed here, because the remainer index such as Nuttonson`s index is unadequate for the interpretation on the phenological phenomena of early spring season in southern coastal area. The YDI was calculated by summing daily mean temperature of the yeat days (YD) above physical zero degree in centigrade, based on the data of the Monthly Weather Reports from 1967 to 1980 by the Central Meteocological Office. The pattern of YDI increase with the increase of YD was similar to that of the remainder index such as the Nuttonson`s index. The some YDI distribution maps were made by Yim and Kira (1975), dividing into 30`×40` meshes, in latitude and longitude, on the topographical map(1:500,000) of the Korea Peninsula. According to the year day of different localities flowering dates of Prunus yedoensis and other phenological phenomena in various species delayed about 3.5 day as the increase of 1 degree of latitude, which coincides with the Hopkins bioclimatic law. It was found that the YDI is useful to interprete the phenology of plant and animal species and to select the optimum range of cultivars in South Korea.

        Multilayered Cell Sheets of Cardiac Reprogrammed Cells for the Evaluation of Drug Cytotoxicity

        Background: Various cell-culture systems have been used to evaluate drug toxicity in vitro. However, factors that affect cytotoxicity outcomes in drug toxicity evaluation systems remain elusive. In this study, we used multilayered sheets of cardiac-mimetic cells, which were reprogrammed from human fibroblasts, to investigate the effects of the layer number on drug cytotoxicity outcomes. Methods: Cell sheets of cardiac-mimetic cells were fabricated by reprogramming of human fibroblasts into cardiac-mimetic cells via coculture with cardiac cells and electric stimulation, as previously described. Double-layered cell sheets were prepared by stacking the cell sheets. The mono- and double-layered cell sheets were treated with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), an anticancer drug, in vitro. Subsequently, apoptosis and lipid peroxidation were analyzed. Furthermore, effects of cardiac-mimetic cell density on cytotoxicity outcomes were evaluated by culturing cells in monolayer at various cell densities. Results: The double-layered cell sheets exhibited lower cytotoxicity in terms of apoptosis and lipid peroxidation than the mono-layered sheets at the same 5-FU dose. In addition, the double-layered cell sheets showed better preservation of mitochondrial function and plasma membrane integrity than the monolayer sheets. The lower cytotoxicity outcomes in the double-layered cell sheets may be due to the higher intercellular interactions, as the cytotoxicity of 5-FU decreased with cell density in monolayer cultures of cardiac-mimetic cells. Conclusion: The layer number of cardiac-mimetic cell sheets affects drug cytotoxicity outcomes in drug toxicity tests. The in vitro cellular configuration that more closely mimics the in vivo configuration in the evaluation systems seems to exhibit lower cytotoxicity in response to drug.
