Vol.6 No.1
In this study, we reviewed the practical procedures of Korea and the United States regarding the evidence number, and find ways to improve the evidence number currently used in the investigation practice by confirming that it needs to be supplemented in relation to chain of custody. In the current criminal justice system in Korea, if it is not proved that the identity of the existence and condition of the evidence at the time of collection was maintained without interruption, that is, if the chain of custody is not secured, there is a risk that the evidence will not obtain its admissibility to be presented in the court or even if the evidence is presented as evidence, its probative value will decrease. In the case of Korea, however, the evidence number has not been discussed much regarding the integrity of such evidence. Considering that the beginning of the chain of custody for the integrity of evidence is the unique number of the evidence first given in the crime scene, it seems necessary to be improved.
Antioxidant Activities of Liquid-Exfoliated Transition Metal Dichalcogenides
Vol.2016 No.1
Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) such as MoS2, WS2, MoSe2, and WSe2 were effectively exfoliated into monolayered TMDs in water by sonication and cascade centrifugation. TMD monolayers had 50~150 nm in lateral size. In addition, TMD monolayer showed strong photoluminescence in visible range. It was also found that all types of TMD monolayers showed much higher antioxidant activities than Trolox that is a well-known antioxidant of vitamin E. Moreover, all of TMD monolayers showed outstanding sustainability and photo-/thermal-stabilities in antioxidant activities as compared to Trolox.
Biocompatible Transition Metal Dichalcogenide Antioxidants for Cellular ROS Scavenging
Vol.2018 No.0
The regulation of the reactive oxygen species (ROS) concentration in the human body is very important because it can cause oxidative stress and inflammation in the human body, leading to many diseases. We present a new approach for the simultaneous exfoliation and functionalization of transition metal dichalcogenide nanosheets (TMD NSs), including MoS2, WS2, MoSe2, and WSe2, in an aqueous solution, and demonstrate their application for the prolonged and effective scavenging of various ROS. TMD NSs were exfoliated and functionalized by a diblock copolymer, poly(ε-caprolactone)-b-poly(ethylene glycol) (PCL-b-PEG), and the resulting TMD NSs showed excellent antioxidant activities for superoxide, hydroxyl, and ABTS radicals. The experiment and DFT simulation results found that the ROS scavenging took place through electron transfer from the TMD NSs to the ROS. Finally, the TMD NSs antioxidants were able to scavenge cellular ROS in HaCaT human keratinocytes without any cytotoxicity.
Graphene oxide on silver nanoshell as a SERRS nanoprobe for optical detection of cancer cells
Vol.2015 No.1
We have synthesized an outstanding nanoprobe composed of graphene oxide (GO) and silver nanoshell, which exhibited remarkable signal amplification by strong surface-enhanced resonance Raman scattering (SERRS). Silver nanoshell formed on the surface of silica nanoparticles by an amine-assisted reduction method, followed by its encapsulation with 4,7,10-trioxa-1,13-tri decanediamine (TEG)-functionalized GO that has strong resonance Raman scattering (denoted “GONS”). The developed GONS nanoprobe showed so intense and simple Raman signal to allow the sensitive detection of a target. At last, GONS was applied to the specific targeting of cancer cells.
2D tungsten oxide/palladium oxide nanohybrids for visible light-driven Suzuki reactions
Vol.2019 No.0
We developed a simple and novel method to synthesize nanohybrid photocatalysts (PdO@WO3) composed of tungsten oxide nanosheets (WO3 NSs) and palladium oxide nanoparticles (PdO NPs) for photocatalytic Suzuki reactions under visible light irradiation. The WO3 NSs were transformed from metallic tungsten disulfide nanosheets (WS2 NSs) by the simultaneous formation of PdO NPs on the nanosheet surface. The conversion yield of WO3 NSs from WS2 NSs increased with increasing the coverage of PdO NPs on the surface. The PdO@WO3 hybrid exhibited excellent photocatalytic activity and recyclability in the C-C coupling reactions of various aryl halides and boronic acids under visible light irradiation.
2D transition metal dichalcogenide nanomedicines for sepsis treatment
Vol.2020 No.-
It is of great significance to reduce the imflammation caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS) for sepsis treatment. Herein, biocompatible transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) nanosheets were exploited as stable and powerful antioxidants for sepsis treatment. To this end, TMD nanosheets were exfoliated and functionalized by an amphiphilic polymer in an aqueous solution. The exfoliated TMD nanosheets showed unique cellular scavenging activities for various types of ROS and nitric oxide (NO) in BMDMs stimulated by lipopolysaccharide. It was found that WS2 nanosheets exhibited the highest activity for reduction of inflammatory factors in the living cells via intracellular ROS scavenging. In addition, WS2 nanosheets showed the excellent performance in sepsis-induced mouse models, leading to an increase in their survival rate.

Vol.26 No.1
The present study aims to develop a simulation of water jet from a fire monitor working in a ship in seaways. The physics was simulated using Unity engine, composed of water jet trajectory and ship motion in waves. Regarding ship motion, the time history of the translational acceleration and rotation of the ship mass center were estimated based on the standards of ship motion and attitude by US Navy. The water jet behavior was simulated by implanting fluid motion library based on the particle approach. The water jet parameters were tuned by an empirical formula for water jet trajectory. Decrease of fire suppression performance in seaways was quantified by the delivery rate of the water particles to the fire source region.
Metals-mediated fluorescence responses of functionalized graphene oxide to neurotransmitters
Vol.2014 No.1
Graphene oxide (GO) was functionalized with nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA) (NTA-GO) in which four metal ions including Co2+, Ni2+, Zn2+ and Cu2+ were chelated, leading to a different degree of quenching on its fluorescence. The metal-modulated fluorescence of NTA-GO showed unique responses to several neurotransmitters including glutamic acid (Glu), adenosine 5′-triphosphate (ATP), adenosine 5′-diphosphate (ADP), dopamine (Dopa), and norepinephrine (NorEpi). In particular, Cu-NTAGO was able to recognize NorEpi selectively via its turn-on fluorescence in the presence of NorEpi. Finally, Cu-NTA-GO was applied to the selective detection of NorEpi secreted from PC-12 cells.
