From 1927 to 1940, many movies were imported into Korea. Most of them were made in USA. brought into Korea via Japan. As a result, so many companies for film import and distribution were built. As it were, it was a golden time for film merchant in Korea. The film distributors worked mainly in seoul, the capital of the colony, but they need another film dealers in province. Local film distributors rented films from the merchant in Seoul, and made a tour for film screening, which was called sun-up. In short, the film distribution in 1920~30s of Korea has bipolar structure. In late 1930s, a golden time for film merchant went to its end. The government imposed legal controls on the import and screening of western film. Such policy was connected with a series of the support for japanese major film company. As a result, peolple of colony were deprived of their right to enjoy films which were not made in japan.

식민지 조선의 외국영화 -1920년대 경성의 조선인 영화관에서의 외화 상영

1920년대 경성에서는 수많은 영화들이 상영되었으며 그 대부분은 미국산이었다. 이렇게 많은 영화들이 수입 상영될 수 있었던 것은 미국 영화산업의 적극적인 노력 때문이었다. 1916년 이래로 세계 배급망을 구축하려는 지속적인 노력의 결과 조선시장 또한 이에 편입되기에 이르렀던 것이다. 따라서 1920년대 경성의 조선인 극장가는 미국영화계의 흐름에 따라 함께 변화해갔다. 10년간 일어난 가장 중요한 변화는 연속 중심에서 장편 중심으로의 전환이었다. 이는 특약중심에서 자유계약 중심으로의 전환, 유니버살 중심에서 파라마운트를 비롯한 새롭게 부상했던 메이저 영화사들 중심으로의 전환과 함께 했다. 그 결과로, 조선관객들은 이 과정에서 당대의 주요한 미국영화들과 빠짐없이 대면할 수 있었다. 경성의 세 극장은 10여 년 동안 끊임없이 경쟁했다. 1920년대 초 우미관은 유니버살과의 특약을 통해 가장 앞서 나갔지만, 단성사에 특약을 빼앗긴 이후에는 계속 하락세였다. 조선극장은 ``파라마운트 봉절장``을 내걸고 장편 중심의 프로그램을 운영하면서 단성사와 경쟁했다. 단성사는 유니버살과의 특약을 맺는 동시에 장편 수급에도 적극적으로 나서면서 당시의 극장가에서 승자로 남을 수 있었다. In 1920s of Seoul, many foreign films were screened in Korea, most of which were from USA. After 1916, American film industry had tried to control directly its market over the world, and therethrough many branches of American majors began to be established in big cities of East Asia, for example, Tokyo. In the changes, Korea came to be included in the world film market which was centered on USA. Therefore, the changes in Korean theaters had the same way of that in USA. The most important change was the standing out of feature films, which substituted for serial films. It was accompanied by the changes from special contract to free contract, which means decline of Universal and rise of Paramount. The Korean movie fans could enjoy most of important American films of 1920s. Keywords: American, Korean film theater, serial film, feature film, Universal, Paramount The three Korean film theater, Umikwan, Dansungsa, Choseon Keukjang, competed against each other throughout 1920s. In early 1920s, Umikwan gained the lead by making special contract with Universal, but after Dansungsa`s taking over the contract in 1923, ranking of Korean theaters was changed. The tactic of Choseon Keukjang was releasing Paramount films, and it could make maintain the position of No.2. Dansungsa was the winner of the competition, because it released majority of American feature films except Paramount and it had been continuous contact with Universal at the same time.

1920s’ Joseon, discourse on Foreign Film increased in great number. It centers on American film. Diverse information about American fim was loaded on newspapers everyday. It seems that everyone is enthusiastic about American Fim. But, there was attack and denial to American film, too. Some focused its not being artistic, some focused its America-centerd ideology, and some focused its bourgois ideology. Nevertheless, the attack was not so strong. Why the film discours was formed around America film? It has several reasons: American film’s domination of world; lack of Joseon film; rejection to Japanese film and altering to American Film, etc. But most of all, the important reason was prevalent longing to USA and its modern culture.

파시즘과 눈물

The Shinpa has been related with many kinds of political discourse in 20th Korea. It is especially suitable to Fascism, because it erases individual and society by focusing on family, is occupied with the evolutionist view of the world, and is fascinated by irrational power. The Park Administration took the Shinpa as the rhetoric of the fascist tyranny. It summoned the pain of national history, compared to family history. Shinpa was the main form of films in 1960-70s. It is the effect of the fascist rhetoric and evidence of the people's consent to the rhetoric. But Shinpa was also the representative form of rejection to the fascism. Sometimes, the tears of the subaltern outlaws means both the accusation of the pain of the proletarian life and the will of nationalist practice. But, the essential potential of Shinpa reside in the lowest plate of tears. In it, we meet a pure tears and a repeated rhythm of emotion, which have could been everything. We can say that it is ligne de fuite of Shinpa.

1950년대 대중서사와 남성성의 정치적 징후

이 글은 1950년대의 영화를 중심으로 한 대중서사가 재현했던 남성성의 정치적 의미를 논의하기 위한 것이다. 이 시기의 대중서사에서 남성인물들은 다른 시기였다면 신파적인 눈물을 흘렸을 만한 상황에 대해 다른 대응을 보여주곤 했다. 이러한 탈신파화는 크게 두 가지 양상으로 나타났다. 첫 번째는 〈지옥화〉로 대표되는 가족의 붕괴를 수반하는 개인들의 생존투쟁의 양상들에 대한 냉철한 관찰이며, 두 번째는 〈애인〉으로 대표되는 생존투쟁을 뛰어넘는 윤리적 고양으로서의 사랑에 대한 지향이다. 그렇다면 이러한 탈신파적 양상들이 가지는 정치적 의미는 무엇인가? 신파적인 것과 정치적인 것과의 연루는 정치적 주체성을 감상주의적 가족적 주체성으로 은유함으로써 이루어진다. 따라서 신파성은 정치적 공동체의 생존의 문제를 최고의 의제로 삼고, 이를 위해 집단내의 강력한 유기체적 단합을 요구하는 파시즘에 쉽게 연루된다. 반면에 〈지옥화〉는 가족을 개인으로 대체하고, 개인적인 ‘욕망의 자유’를 전경화함으로써 이러한 파시즘적 가능성을 차단하며, 〈애인〉은 집단적 생존에의 욕망의 대척점에 있는 개인적인 고양의 윤리를 제시함으로써, 파시즘적 정치화로부터 멀어진다. 특히 〈애인〉이 구축하는 ‘윤리적 자유’는 사적 욕망에 대한 자율적인 제한의 입법을 통해 출현하는 정치제도로서의 자유민주주의를 함축하는 것이기도 하다. 그러나 그러한 윤리적 자유의 차원만으로 시민성을 획득할 수 있는 것은 아니다. 생존의 욕망을 뛰어넘어 윤리를 추구하는 것이 자유가 되기 위해서는, 생존에 대한 욕망을 추구할 자유가 전제되어야 하기 때문이다. 따라서 1930년대의 〈사랑〉과 달리 〈애인〉이 자유민주주의적인 정치적 의미를 획득할 수 있는 것은, 바로 〈지옥화〉를 콘텍스트로 갖기 때문이라고 할 수 있다. I would discuss the political meanings of the masculinity represented in 1950s' popular narrative, especially in movies. In 1950s, we can nearly meet with Male Shinpa, one of the most important mode of Korean popular narrative. Then, why was that so? There were two important aspects of deshinpaniztion. One of them was observation of individual struggle for existence, and the other was ethical rising up beyond the struggle. Shinpa is apt to involved in fascism, because it constitutes strong familiar subjectivity, which is similar to fascist subjectivity. Wheres, the cases of deshinpaniztion were implicated in another politics, the liberal democracy. Jiog-hwa(The Flower in Hell) which belonged to the first cases of deshinpaniztion deconstructed shinpa by altered the subject of struggle from family to individual. Ae-in(Lover) which belonged to the second cases approached to the ideal of the liberal democracy by suggesting autonomous ethical subjectivity that is homologous to citizen.

1960년대 전반기 한국영화에서의 폭력과 정치

1960년대 전반기에 한국영화는 강력한 폭력을 전시하기 시작했으며, 이는 액션영화의 등장을 중심으로 했다. 그 폭력들은 국민국가의 형성이라는 정치적 맥락 속에 위치하고 있었으며, 국민적 폭력과 시민적 폭력의 두 가지 양상으로 나타났다. 국민/시민은 근대 국민국가의 주권자이기 때문이다. 그 본성상 국민적 폭력은 정치체 외부에 대한 배제를 특징으로 하는 반면, 시민적 폭력은 내부적인 분할과 차별을 특징으로 한다. 4?19직후의 영화들은 시민적 폭력만을 보여주었지만, 5?16이후에는 국민과 시민의 폭력이 모두 나타나기 시작했다. 이는 점차 주권이 정립, 강화되고 있었던 당시의 상황을 반영하고 있다. 액션영화의 하위 장르 중 전쟁물, 대륙물은 외부의 적에 대한 폭력을, 간첩물과 범죄물은 내부의 적에 대한 폭력을 중심으로 했다. 또한 범죄물이 시민적 폭력의 영화들이었다면, 나머지는 국민적 폭력의 영화들이었다. 이러한 액션영화의 번성은 주권적 폭력이 과도하고 위협적인 방식으로 작동하던 상황을 반영하고 있었다. 국민적 폭력과 시민적 폭력은 중첩됨으로써 더 위험한 것이 되곤 했는데, 사회적 분할에 대한 비판자들을 간첩으로 몰아갔던 공안사건들이 그 대표적 사례였다. 액션영화들에 있어서 양자의 중첩은 간첩물과 범죄물의 병치를 통해 반영되었다. 액션영화들은 폭력의 매혹과 공포를 동시에 제시했으며. 이를 통해 대중관객을 유혹하거나 협박함으로써 주권적 폭력으로 유인했다. 이 영화들이 어느 정도 흥행에 성공했던 것은 그러한 유인에 대중들이 어느 정도 호응하고 있었음을 의미한다. In the first half of 1960s, Korean movies began to exhibit strong violence, especially in action movies. The violence were in the political context of the formation of nation-state. Therefore, it appeared as two aspects, which were the violence of nation and that of citizen. Because the nation and citizen were two phases of the sovereignty. In its nature, nation’s violence is characterized with exclusion to the outside of political corps but citizen’s is segregation in it. The Movies after 4·19 showed only citizen’s violence but the movies after 5·16 showed two kinds of violence at once, which reflect the gradual consolidation of the sovereignty. Among the sub-genres of action movies, war movie and continental movie contains violence to the outer enemy, but spy movie and crime movie to the inner enemy. Crime movie concentrated on citizen’s violence but the others on nation’s. The strong violence of action movie were resonant with excessive and threatening use of sovereign’ violence. The violences often became dangerous by being mixed with each other, which lead to the exiles of the criticizer to the government and the socially weak. And the cohesion of the two was reflected on the juxtaposition of the spy movie and crime movie in the constellation of movies. Action movie attracted or threatened the mass-audience to join in and obey the violences and the success of the movies means that such attempt were successful.

임상연구 : 머리의 자세가 우측 쇄골하 중심정맥도관의 위치에 미치는 영향

Background: Confirmation of central venous catheter position with chest X-ray is recommended, but frequently omitted in clinical practice. It was suggested that the head posture during right subclavian catheterization affects the incidence of catheter malposition in infants. We evaluated the influence of the head posture on catheter position during right subclavian catheterization in adults. Methods: Two-hundred and seventy four patients scheduled for thoracic or neuro-surgery requiring central venous catheterization were enrolled. Patients were divided into 3 groups depending on the head posture during catheter insertion: the neutral group (n = 109), the turn away group (n = 72), and the turn toward group (n = 93). The catheter position was confirmed with postoperative chest X-ray. Results: Central venous catheterization was failed in 5 patients. There were no differences in the incidence of catheter malposition and the complications among the 3 groups. Conclusions: The head posture during right subclavian catheterization did not affect catheter malposition and immediate complication rates. (Korean J Anesthesiol 2007; 52: 627~9)

단순헤르페스뇌염에서 무증상 혈종

A 59-year old man was admitted for drowsiness and stiff neck. CSF examination showed lymphocytic pleocytosis and PCR for herpes simplex virus (HSV)-1 was positive in CSF. Brain MRI revealed enhanced lesions in left temporal lobe. His symptom improved with acyclovir. Follow-up studies showed red blood cells in CSF and a hematoma in the left temporal lobe. There was no additional symptom related to the hematoma. He was discharged after conservative care. Although rare, hematoma can develop in HSV-1 meningoencephalitis.
