Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) power plant converts coal to syngas, which is mainly composed of hydrogen and carbon monoxide, by the gasification process and produces electric power by the gas and steam turbine combined cycle power plant. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of using syngas in a gas turbine, originally designed for natural gas fuel, on its performance. A commercial gas turbine is selected and variations of its performance characteristics due to adopting syngas is analyzed by simulating off-design gas turbine operation. Since the heating value of the syngas is lower, compared to natural gas, IGCC plants require much larger fuel flow rate. This increases the gas flow rate to the turbine and the pressure ratio, leading to far larger power output and higher thermal efficiency. Examination of using two different syngases reveals that the gas turbine performance varies much with the fuel composition.

Recently, algae concentration in the river and lake has been increasing continuously and in a rapid speed. Algae can be a discomfort to people and the secretion of toxic substances can adversely affect the ecosystem. There is a need to develop and apply improved water quality technologies in the environment to help to reduce the confusion that provoke the algae in the ecosystem. We studied the optimal conditions of Daphnia to apply it in the field of water improvement, by determining the optimum conditions that can be cultured in Daphnia, via the control of oxygen supply temperature and food to apply in fields of culture techniques. In this study it was found that the best set feeding food is 22 ml, with a final population of 1960 inds/L. In the aeration of the experiment, it was found that the most efficient DO concentration was 5.2 mg/L with an individual number of Daphnia of 1,200 inds/L. Regarding the water temperature, it was found that a range from 24℃ to 26℃ was the most appropriate the temperature of room cultured that doesn`t effect the scattering to increase the activity was determined to be 25℃.

Background/Aims: Conventional triple therapy (CT) for Helicobacter pylori infection fails in up to one-third of patients. Sequential therapy (ST) seem be more effective than CT in other countries. However, there is no systemic literature review that directly compares CT and ST in Korea. The aim of this study was to compare ST with CT for H. pylori infection in Korea. Methods: Six randomized, prospective controlled trials were used to compare 10-day ST and 7- to 14-day CT in treatment-naive patients with documented H. pylori infection in Korea. Pooled eradication rates and OR with 95% CI were calculated. Results: The intention-to-treat eradication rates of H. pylori involving 1,529 patients were 79.7% (95% CI, 76.8-82.5%) for ST (n=754) and 68.1% (95% CI, 64.8-71.4%) for CT (n=775) (OR, 1.838; p<0.001). The per-protocol eradication rate of H. pylori involving 1,366 patients was 86.4% (95% CI, 83.3-88.5%) for ST (n=682) and 76.0% (95% CI, 72.8-79.2%) for CT (n=684) (OR, 1.974; p<0.001). Conclusions: Ten-day ST was superior to CT in terms of eradicating H. pylori infection. Therefore, ST should be considered as a first-line therapy in Korea. However, ST did not achieve a sufficient eradication rate. More effective therapy should be developed. (Korean J Gastroenterol 2013;62:267-271)

In the power generation industry, various efforts are needed to cope with tightening regulation on carbon dioxide emission. Integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) is a relatively environmentally friendly power generation method using coal. Moreover, pre-combustion $CO_2$ capture is possible in the IGCC system. Therefore, much effort is being made to develop advanced IGCC systems. However, removal of $CO_2$ prior to the gas turbine may affect the system performance and operation because the fuel flow, which is supplied to the gas turbine, is reduced in comparison with normal IGCC plants. This study predicts, through a parametric analysis, system performances of both an IGCC plant using normal syngas and a plant with $CO_2$ capture. Performance characteristics are compared and influence of $CO_2$ capture is discussed. By removing $CO_2$ from the syngas, the heating value of the fuel increases, and thus the required fuel flow to the gas turbine is reduced. The resulting reduction in turbine flow lowers the compressor pressure ratio, which alleviates the compressor surge problem. The performance of the bottoming cycle is not influenced much.
클레부딘 근육병증이 발생한 만성 B형간염 환자들에서 엔테카비어 전환 치료의 효과

Background/Aims: Clevudine is a potent antiviral agent against HBV. However, long-term clevudine therapy may cause myopathy. This study was carried out to identify the efficacy of entecavir switching therapy in chronic hepatitis B patients experiencing clevudine-induced myopathy. Methods: One hundred forty six patients with chronic hepatitis B treated with 30 mg of clevudine per day for 73 weeks (range, 36-132 weeks) were enrolled. Among them, clevudine-induced myopathy occurred in 21 patients (14.4%) which was diagnosed if the patients had symptoms related to myopathy with concurrent CK and AST elevation. All the patients who were diagnosed as clevudine-induced myopathy stopped the therapy, and 17 patients (81%) were switched to entecavir 0.5 mg. Results: The patients with clevudine-induced myopathy were switched to entecavir 0.5 mg for median 68 weeks, and all of them showed disappearance of clinical myopathic symptoms and normalization of CK and AST level within median 2.2 months. Eight patients (47%) were HBeAg positive before entecavir treatment, and HBeAg seroconversion was achieved in 2 patients (25%). HBV DNA level was elevated in 3 patients (17.6%) at the time when the patients were diagnosed as myopathy, all of them achieved virological response with entecavir switching therapy. ALT level was elevated in 3 patients (17.6%) before entecavir treatment, all of them showed normalization of ALT level. During entecavir therapy, genotypic resistance to entecavir or virological breakthrough was not noted. Conclusions: In chronic hepatitis B patients experiencing clevudine-induced myopathy, switching to entecavir 0.5 mg per day showed a resolution of myopathy and adequate viral suppression.
