한국 신문의 뉴스 생산문화에 대한 비판적 연구: 중앙일간지의 조직문화와 기사생산의 문제를 중심으로

This study examines the news production cultures of Korean daily newspapers. Especially, it focuses on organizational cultures and their influences on news production in Korean major national daily newspapers. For this, this study executes depth interviews with nine young ex-journalists that once worked for the newspapers. As results, most of the problematic organizational cultures of Korean newspapers that previous studies have found out still powerfully work. Particularly, ‘hierarchical/obedient culture’ with ‘closed/nonreflective culture’ and ‘unsystematic /disorganized culture’ plays a key role in making other problematic cultures appear and work such as ‘capital-obedient culture,’ ‘non-developing professionality culture,’ ‘uncommunicative culture,’ and ‘uncooperative culture.’ These cultures, in dependent and interdependent ways, powerfully influence the organization operation of the daily newspaper companies and the overall production process of their news, and then sully the principles and quality of journalism in various aspects. These results show that the problematic organizational cultures cause the problems of the daily newspaper in terms of journalism such as partisanship, instigation, sensationalism, advertising, inaccuracy, unprofessionalism, and immorality. In conclusion, the crisis of Korean daily newspapers primarily comes from the problems of journalism, not from the maladaptation for digital environments, and then the solution of the journalism problems began to germinate in innovating the problematic organizational cultures, rather then in adapting digital environments.

In vitro Antagonism between Cefotaxime and Anti- Rickettsial Antibiotics against Orientia tsutsugamushi

We have investigated the in vitro antimicrobial effects of antibiotic combinations against Orientia tsutsugamushi, the causativeagent of scrub typhus. ECV304 cells were infected with the Boryong strain of O. tsutsugamushi and incubated in a medium containingdoxycycline (4 μg/mL), azithromycin (0.5 μg/mL), rifampin (4 μg/mL), ciprofloxacin (25 μg/mL), gentamicin (5 μg/mL),cefotaxime (2 μg/mL), or combinations of these agents for 7 days, after which immunofluorescent staining for O. tsutsugamushiwas performed. The percentages of infective foci in cultures containing antibiotics compared to those in cultures without antibioticswere 6.2% for doxycycline, 9.6% for azithromycin, 8.8% for rifampin, 96.6% for cefotaxime, 29.7% for doxycyclineplus cefotaxime, 23.6% for azithromycin plus cefotaxime, and 41.4% for rifampin plus cefotaxime. These findings show an invitro antagonism between anti-rickettsial agents and cefotaxime against O. tsutsugamushi. These results suggest that the efficacyof antibiotic combinations involving cefotaxime for the treatment of patients with scrub typhus, particularly those with severepneumonia, needs to be investigated.

As housing costs rise and the housing market becomes unstable, there is an accelerated transition from Chonse to monthly rent, causing housing instability and increasing the burden of housing costs on lessees. By ensuring the lessee's right to renew the lease, the lease guarantee period has been increased from two years to four years. Increases in rent or security deposits upon contract renewal are limited to 1/20 of the agreed amount. Consequently, the lessor has a great deal of complaints. In the lessee's situation, Chonse is hard to find, and the Chonse price increases sharply. The lessor also finds it difficult to raise the lease fee. Moreover, even after the lessor purchases the house, the lessor has difficulty moving in due to the lessee's application for contract renewal. The lessor also suffers greatly. The timely sale of a home as needed, the completion of residence requirements that are exempt from transfer taxes, and the retroactive application of two rental laws (the 「Housing Lease Protection Act」 and Real Estate Transaction Reporting Act). Therefore, the lessor's property rights are being violated. Both parties express concern about tax burden due to actual transaction report of Chonse and monthly fee. It may not be possible for the assignee to reside in their newly acquired home if the lessee residing there applies to renew their lease to the lessor (a seller) prior to registration of ownership transfer. In accordance with current law, the transfer of ownership takes effect only after registration, and the assignee inherits the status of the lessor. Due to this, the assignee of the leased house had the right to refuse contract renewals. The lessor's right to refuse renewal does not expire, even if ownership of the leased object changes after the application right to renewal is exercised. The lessor can also refuse to renew the lease. Consequently, the lessor is legally and effectively entitled to refuse renewal within the period stipulated by law. The lessor can also exercise the renewal refusal right of the previous lessor. The lease contract will thus be terminated in the non-renewal state during the original contract expiry period. The amended 「Housing Lease Protection Act」 led to many disputes over the rights of lessees to renew their leases. A typical situation is when a lessee exercises their right to renew their lease where the new lessor acquires ownership of the house from the previous lessor, and on the basis of the actual residence, the new lessor rejects the lessee's renewal application. Although the purpose of the amendment of the 「Housing Lease Protection Act」 was to protect the lessee, the only effect was to increase the pain of the lessee as the Chonse price increased at once for four years. The amended 「Housing Lease Protection Act」 has only been enacted recently, and a number of lower court decisions have been issued, but This was first Supreme Court ruling. If there is a legitimate reason under the「Housing Lease Protection Act」After exercising the Application right of contract renewal, within the renewal refusal period of the old lessor the transferee who has succeeded to the leasehold status must be able to exercise the right of refusal of contract renewal for the purpose of Actually Reside. A full review of the 「Housing Lease Protection Act」 is also necessary in the future, as well as a discussion about the need for a 「Housing Lease Protection Act」.

Subcutaneous injection sites impact brain uptake of blood-brain barrier impermeable paclitaxel

Purpose Systemic absorption is the process of drug movement from the site of drug administration to systemic circulation for therapeutic efficacy. Systemic absorption and distribution of therapeutics are affected by the route of administration and may further vary with different sites for the same route. Paclitaxel (PTX) remains one of the most powerful chemotherapeutic drugs to treat various tumors. Nevertheless, PTX has not been used to treat brain tumors because of its blood-brain barrier (BBB) impermeability and lack of drug accumulation in the brain. This study aimed to investigate systemic absorption and brain uptake of PTX following subcutaneous (SC) injection at different sites. Methods A hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) polymer was used to prepare the PTX-HPMC hydrogel. The PTXHPMC hydrogel was characterized by sol-gel transition, drug release, and in situ hydrogel formation. Systemic absorption and distribution in the brain were investigated in mice after subcutaneous injection at three different sites (flank, head, and abdomen). The PTX concentrations in the plasma and brain homogenates were quantified using LC-MS/MS using the liquidliquid extraction method. Results The PTX-HPMC hydrogel showed sol-gel transition at 37 ℃ and bi-phase release with burst and sustained release. Systemic absorption in the plasma at all SC injection sites showed no significant differences. However, the distribution to the brain after SC injection at the head was 2.5 times higher than at the flank, suggesting an injection site-dependent distribution of PTX. Conclusion Differences in blood and lymph flow among SC sites are expected to contribute to PTX distribution. SC injection into the head may be a promising route for drug delivery to brain.

언론의 ‘4차 산업혁명’ 담론에 대한 비판적 연구 조선일보를 중심으로

This study explores the way that Korean media frame the present and future of our society through producing cognitive and interpretive frame of The Fourth Industrial Revolution. It does critical discourse analysis for the editorials of Chosun Ilbo. The results are as followings. Firstly, the editorials of Chosun Ilbo include competition/fall/crisis discourse that many countries fiercely compete to survive for The Fourth Industrial Revolution and Korea falls behind the competition and is in crisis. Secondly, those contain anti-regulation/anti-politics/anti-union discourse that the reasons for Korea to be in crisis are many national corporate regulations and labor market rigidity that political circle especially progressive groups, unions, and some parts of civic groups hold on to. Thirdly, those produce deregulation/pro-business/pro-market discourse that the solution to overcome the crisis and win the competition for The Fourth Industrial Revolution is to weaken or remove national corporate regulations and to incorporate public domains into market. Those discourses that Chosun Ilbo spreads reproduce and strengthen the dominant ideologies such as nation leading developmentalism, technological deterministic optimism and neoliberalism. Especially those strongly frame that the process and result of The Fourth Industrial Revolution are recognized and interpreted from the perspective of neo-liberalism. In other words, Chosun Ilbo through the discourses of The Fourth Industrial Revolution makes us to imagine and lead not to new society but to the society that is more and more reinforced by existing social system, especially neo-liberalism.
