Fruit growth and development is regulated by cell expansion, which is a culmination of balanced cell stiffening and loosening. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are crucial factors regulating cell expansion. In the present study, we investigated how cell wall expansion is regulated by ROS homeostasis in two Asian pear (Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai) cultivars with different maturity periods. ROS production, lignin contents, peroxidase activity, and gene expression levels were measured during pear fruit development and ripening. An increase in fruit fresh weight was observed 72 and 87 days after full bloom (DAFB) in early-maturing cultivar ‘Wonhwang’ and late-maturing cultivar ‘Niitaka’, respectively; the former exhibited higher weights than the latter until 132 DAFB. In both cultivars, ROS (O2•– and H2O2) content gradually decreased up to 132 DAFB; higher levels were detected in ‘Niitaka’ than in ‘Wonhwang’, which was consistent with the superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity. H2O2-induced lignin content decreased after maintaining a high level up to 87 DAFB in ‘Niitaka’, whereas it continued to decrease during fruit development and ripening after 57 DAFB in ‘Wonhwang’. In ‘Niitaka’, activities of lignin biosynthesis-related enzymes, guaiacol peroxidase (GPOX) and coniferyl alcohol peroxidase (CPOX), rapidly decreased from 102 to 132 DAFB, but remained higher than those in ‘Wonhwang’; this result was consistent with the expression patterns of peroxidase genes (PpPOX1 and PpPOX4). The expression level of the cell wall loosening-related gene, expansin 1 (PpEXP1), was elevated only in the middle stage of fruit development and ripening, while the expression level of xyloglucan endotransglucosylases 1 (PpXET1) rapidly increased after 57 and 87 DAFB in ‘Wonhwang’ and ‘Niitaka’, respectively. These results indicate that ROS-mediated lignin synthesis through peroxidase is associated with cell wall expansion in Pyrus pyrifolia.

The purpose of this paper is to compare and analyze how the films “Deer’s Blood” and “Yacoubian Building”, produced in Egypt, express Islamic fundamentalism, and how characters in these films perceive it. Accordingly, this paper analyzes the text of two films, classifies the characters into ‘multifaced/dynamic’ and ‘planar/stereotypical’ character types, and analyzes expressions and perceptions of Islamic fundamentalism. This paper finds that there are two differences in the way the two films show Islamic fundamentalist figures. The first is that “Deer’s Blood” only treats religious leaders and Muslims who have a fundamentalist disposition negatively, while “Yacoubian Building” criticizes fundamentalists and ethically denigrates all religious leaders regardless of their fundamentalist disposition. The second is that “Deer’s Blood” focuses on personal motives, while “Yacoubian Building” emphasizes social motives in describing ordinary characters who have been transformed into fundamentalists.

이기종 시스템들간의 멀티미디어 문서 교환을 목적으로 제정된 국제 표준이 SGML(Standard Generalized Markup Language)이다[2]. 이 SGML 문서를 만들기 위해서는 DTD(Document Type Definition)의 생성이 이루어져야 하며, 이 DTD는 문서의 논리구조에 따라 각각 다르게 생성되기 때문에 여러 개의 데이터베이스(Database)를 구축하게 된다. 그러므로 구축하는데 비용이 증가되며 검색하는데 비효율적이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 유사한 논리구조를 가지는 문서에 대하여 그들 각각의 DTD를 하나로 통합할 수 있는 통합 DTD 작성 알고리즘을 제안한다. 이러한 알고리즘에 따라 적용하게 되면 하나의 논리 구조를 가지는 SGML 문서의 데이터베이스만을 구축하므로 효율적인 검색 환경을 제공할 수 있다. 이를 위해 본 논문에서는 국내 학회의 논문지에 게재된 논문을 대상으로 적용하여 통합 DTD를 생성하였고 이의 따른 효용성을 입증하였다.
