        Numerical calculation has been performed to investigate the effect of inlet configuration on the<br/> growth rate of GaN layer on the heated susceptor. The conventional single inlet, where the gas is<br/> mixed by force in the inlet, is compared with separated flow inlet. Two-parallel gas flow H2 and<br/> NH3<br/> are separated by a plate with finite length which are also parallel to the susceptor. The effect<br/> of separated plate length, carrier gas and flow rate of each precursor on the mixing of reactant<br/> gases and growth rate were investigated. Furthermore the three dimensional model is employed to<br/> predict the transverse variation of growth rate.

        의사소통능력 향상을 위한 어린이 영어캠프에 관한 연구

        This study investigates the English camp for children on the basis of the development of communicative competence. One hundred twenty students participated in the camp during the summer vacation for 2 weeks and experienced the intensive English learning program. Participants were asked to reside in the university dormitory with native speakers and bilingual college students. For the study, pre-and post surveys were administrated to measure learners' English proficiency as well as affective variables using the AMTB (Attitudes and Motivation test Battery), WTC (Willingness to Communicate) scale and SMAS (Stephen Mutigroup Acculturation Test). The results of this study indicated that learners' English proficiency and motivation/attitudes were increased significantly after the participation in the English camp. Participants' acculturation level to the English culture was increased, but WTC in English was not significantly increased Furthermore, participants' affective skills were compared to English proficiency test results and it suggests that learners' AMTB and SMAS are regarded as significant factors to facilitate English communicative competence.

        영어의 번역과 오역사례 연구

        This paper, by analyzing the mistranslated materials done by some students and translators at different levels, aims at discovering some major causes of mistranslation or misinterpretation in turning the source text in English into the target Korean version, and offering several general suggestions to be of help for better translation. According to Wikipedia, ``translation`` is the interpretation of the meaning of a text in one language (the "source text") and the production, in another language, of an equivalent text (the "target text," or "translation") that communicates the same message. Translation must take into account a number of constraints, including context, the rules of grammar of the two languages, their writing conventions, their idioms and the like. The translator`s grammatical and pragmatic competence in the two languages is unavoidably requisite for a better and more correct translation, which raises the very causes of mistranslation. A column in ``HangyeoreSinmun``, one of major Korean newspapers, revealed an alarming problem in the translated versions far beyond seriousness with the headline ``No Translated Works Keep Credibility and Recommendation``. Consequently, one factor that should always be seriously considered is the favorable attitude of translators, to say nothing of their grammatical and pragmatic competence in two languages, idiomatic usage, ways of expression, parameters and the like, so as to make the translated version equivalent to the source text, creating the phrase "One translates best into the language that one knows best." One possible suggestion for the enhancement of the level of the art of translation could be to set up a professional organization, national or government-supported, to grade and publicize the levels of translated works.

        대화격률과 함축에 관한 연구

        The purpose of this paper is to review Grice's conversational maxims and to characterize the implicature. Grice proposes the Cooperative Principle (CP) and four maxims (Quality, Quantity, Relation, Manner). The assumption that speaker and hearer are both observing the CP and its component maxims permits the exploitation of these maxims to generate conversational implicature, a conveyed message which is meant without being said. Implicature results from an effort to resolve the bottleneck by controlling the informativeness of an utterance depending on the context, and by leaving some part of the speaker's message unuttered. As pointed out by Yun (1993), the Politeness Principle (PP) does not exist apart from the CP, but rather exists as one of the maxims of the CP in pragmatics. The Politeness maxim is more or less universal, but the degree of its application varies according to the culture. This study suggests that Politeness 3 maxim (Modesty) is considered the most important kind of maxim in Korea. This study demonstrates the application of the CP and the pragmatic inference derived therefrom in discussing English and Korean examples. It reveals that sometimes the maxims of the CP work together, reinforcing each other. It also shows that clashes between the maxims occur very often, while one maxim takes priority over the other. It is noted that the interaction between the maxims can make communication successful via implicature. By exploring implied meanings and indirect speech acts in utterance, this paper attempts to contribute to a better understanding of socio-cultural factors in human verbal communication.

        국내 유학생 멘토의 영어회화 멘토링 프로그램 참가에 관한 연구

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of mentoring participation of international student mentors in a college English conversation mentoring program in Korea. For the study, 5 international students participated in the English conversation camp as mentors, while 20 Korean students participated in the camp as mentees for 2 weeks. The mentoring program for international student mentors has set for both of mentors and mentees to develop the core competencies such as communicative competency, self-development competency and global competency. The effect of mentoring participation of international student mentors was investigated by mentors' daily reports, reflection papers and pre and post surveys. The mentors’ daily reports were summarized by Word Cloud and showed that international student mentors spent most of mentoring time by doing ‘presentation practice’, ‘cultural exchange activity’ and ‘English pronunciation practice’ for mentees. The survey results indicated that both of mentors and mentees showed the high satisfaction on a mentoring program. International student mentors also mentioned their English competence in speaking has been developed by mentoring participation. In addition, the survey on core competency of participants showed the increase of global competence, communicative competence and self-development competence. The further pedagogical implication is discussed in the study.
