An accident involving a boiler can result in a disaster since it handles high-pressurized steam so that it may cause an explosion. Therefore, the boiler is very susceptible to industrial accidents. This thesis aimed to develop counter-plans to prevent industrial accidents involved the boiler. At first, after collecting accident cases involving boilers, a survey on the trait of them was carried out. And, on the other hand, a qualitative analysis was conducted to draw out hazardous components in the boiler itself, and their inherent relative importance was assessed. Through this procedure, 'negligence of unsafe condition' was noted as the major cause for unsafe acts, whereas 'fault in work procedure' for unsafe condition. In the meanwhile, results of a hazard analysis using FMEA technique ranked gas safety devices, a switch preventing gas from under-pressurization, protect relays high. In particular, it was pointed out that the water feeding and steam subsystem has more components in hazard than other subsystems. Considering these analyses results, counter-plans to improve safety management was suggested also.

Purpose: After the first subcutaneous mastectomy with nipple preservation in 1974 at the Nottingham Breast Clinic in United Kingdom, many studies have shown that skin-sparing mastectomy (SSM) with the preservation of the nipple-areola complex (NAC) is an oncologically safe procedure with good cosmetic outcomes in selected mastectomy patients. However, the clinical indications for NAC preservation have not yet been precisely defined. This study was performed to investigate the predictive factors for NAC-based neoplastic involvement to determine the indications for NAC preservation. Methods: A retrospective study of 198 patients with invasive breast cancer who underwent modified radical mastectomy (MRM) at the Department of Surgery at Chonnam University Hospital from April of 2004 to April of 2006 was performed. Patients with bilateral breast cancer were excluded from the study. The predictive factors analyzed for NAC involvement were the hormone receptor status, tumor size, tumor localization, multiplicity, axillary lymph node status, nuclear grade, tumor-nipple distance (TND), and lymphovascular invasion (LVI). Results: The overall frequency of malignant NAC involvement was 19 out of the 198 patients (9.5%) as determined by definitive histology. Significant differences were found for tumor size (P=0.015), axillary lymph node status (P=0.008), TND (P=0.044), and LVI (P=0.014). There were no significant differences for the hormone receptor status, multiplicity, nuclear grade, and localization. Conclusion: Although the sample size in this study was small, the findings suggest that the clinical contraindications for NAC preservation should include tumors >2.4 cm, a positive axillary lymph node status, TND <4 cm, and positive LVI. NAC preservation can be offered in selected patients after preoperative or intraoperative evaluation of the tumor size, axillary node status, TND, and LVI.

The effects of carbon, silicon on the structure and hardness at the time of Spheroidal Graphite Cast Iron production were studied in two stages, before and after inoculation. The Fading phenomena were also researched and the arrived conclusions are as follows; (1) The effects of carbon and silicon on the before inoculation structure were equal. It is expedited to graphitize and ferritize as the percentage of carbon and silicon were increased, and thus the density and hardness were decreased. (2) The effect of silicon on the after inoculation structure is greater than that of carbon; the more silicon was contained in the structure, the more it was expedited to graphitize and ferritize and hardness decreased. (3) Fading time was longer at the hyper-eutectic than at the hypo-eutectic, especially silicon-content became higer and the fading time was longer. (4) At the range of silicon-content 2.4% to 3.0%, carbon-content 3.1% to 3.7%, the fading time was 10 to 15 minutes, and it was flaked completely after 25 minutes from the inoculation. Therefore, hardness was not changed at all until 15 minutes after inoculation and sharply decreased thereafter.
OSEK/VDX 기반 차량전장용 소프트웨어 안전성 검증기법

차량전장용 시스템에서 소프트웨어가 차지하는 비율이 최대 85%에 이르고 있음에 따라, 전장용 소프트웨어의 안전성이 차량의 안전성에 미치는 영향 또한 증가일로에 있다. 하드웨어 안전성에 대한 표준과 검증절차, 검증방식 등은 표준화되어 있으나, 소프트웨어 안전성에 대한 인식과 분석 절차, 방법에 대한 체계적인 접근방식이 정립되어 있지 못한 상황이다. 본 연구에서는 OSEK/VDX 기반 차량전장용 소프트웨어를 사례로 하여 (1) 안전 요구사항의 도출과정을 보이고, (2) 분석된 안전요구사항을 적용 가능한 검증방식에 따라 분류, (3) 검증 기법을 적용하여 잠재적인 안전성 문제를 검출하는 과정을 보였다. 제안된 방식은 일반적인 내장형 소프트웨어의 안전성 검증에 확장ㆍ적용될 수 있다.
Metal-coated Polyether Ether Ketone Monopolar Plates for Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell

For the polymer electrolyte fuel cell application, novel multilayer metal-coated polyether ether ketone (PEEK) monopolar plates were developed via electroless plating and electroplating process. The coating layers consisted of 7 µm thick Ni–P layer on a PEEK surface, 7 µm thick Cu layer on it, and 500 nm thick Au layer on the top surface. With metal-coated PEEK monopolar plates on both anode and cathode side, the current density of a single cell at 0.6 V was found to be 734 mA/cm2, which is about 85% using the conventional plates (869 mA/cm2).
