        The Parable of Minas in Luke 19:11-27: A Parodied Parable of the Roman Imperial Patronage System

        This article explores what implications the parable of minas retains and how Luke presents the parable to the Lukan audience. From a narrative perspective this parable is woven into Luke’s tapestry and forms an integral part of his overall narrative strategy. At the end of the travel narrative the parable of minas sets an important foundation for Luke’s alternative vision of the prevalent socio-economic patronage system in the Roman Empire in a parodied way. This article argues that the noble-birth king in the parable should be understood as a counter image of Jesus in relation to the Roman imperial patronage system and the parable itself retains a connotation of parody. The author observes various rhetorical devices, such as repetition (with variation), parallelism, chiasm etc., which serves effectively to reveal the image of the noble-birth king as a counter image of Jesus. Several key coherences between the parable of minas and the other related discourses in Luke, from the prologue to the parable of minas, show that the parable is intimately related to Luke’s alternative vision to the worldly patronage system. By hearing Luke’s Gospel as a whole and the parable addressed in a parodied way, the audience could have understood who Jesus is in relation to the imperial patronage system more clearly and how they follow him as minor mediators of the Kingdom of God.

        자율 운항 선박의 인공지능: 잠재적 사이버 위협과 보안

        Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology is a major technology that develops smart ships into autonomous ships in the marine industry. Autonomous ships recognize a situation with the information collected without human judgment which allow them to operate on their own. Existing ship systems, like control systems on land, are not designed for security against cyberattacks. As a result, there are infringements on numerous data collected inside and outside the ship and potential cyber threats to AI technology to be applied to the ship. For the safety of autonomous ships, it is necessary to focus not only on the cybersecurity of the ship system, but also on the cybersecurity of AI technology. In this paper, we analyzed potential cyber threats that could arise in AI technologies to be applied to existing ship systems and autonomous ships, and derived categories that require security risks and the security of autonomous ships. Based on the derived results, it presents future directions for cybersecurity research on autonomous ships and contributes to improving cybersecurity.

        그림책을 활용한 환경교육이 초등학교 저학년 학생의 환경보전지식과 환경 친화적 태도에 미치는 영향

        본 연구에서는 그림책을 활용한 환경교육이 초등학교 저학년 학생의 환경보전지식과 환경 친화적 태도에 미치는 영향에 대하여 알아보고자 하였다. 본 연구를 위하여 충청북도 청주시에 위치한 G초등학교 1학년 1개 학급 23명을 연구 집단으로, 다른 1개 학급 23명을 비교집단으로 선정하였고 연구 집단의 학생들을 대상으로 그림책을 활용한환경 교육을 실시하고 비교집단에는 일반 환경 수업을 실시하였다. 본 연구를 수행하기 위해 환경보전지식과 환경 친화적 태도에 대한 사전·사후 검사를 실시하고 그 결과를 분석하여 결론을 도출하였다. 본 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 그림책을 활용한 환경교육은 초등학교 저학년 학생들의 환경보전지식을 향상시키는데 효과적이었다. 둘째, 그림책을 활용한 환경교육은 초등학교 저학년 학생의 환경 친화적 태도를 향상시켰다. 인지적, 정의적, 행동적 영역으로 나누어 환경 친화적 태도를 분석한 결과 그림책을 활용한 환경교육을 실시하기 전보다 실시한 후의 실험집단의 환경 친화적 태도가 영역별로 모두 향상되었다. 셋째, 그림책을 활용한 환경교육에 대한 참여 학생(23명)의 수업에 대한 인식을 조사한 결과연구 집단 학생들 중 87%의 학생들이 그림책을 활용한 수업에 만족한다고 답했으며, 역시 87%의학생들이 수업이 흥미로웠다고 답했다. 그리고 96%의 학생들이 수업에 열심히 참여했다고 답했다. 본 연구를 통하여 그림책을 활용한 환경교육은 초등학교 저학년 학생의 환경보전지식과 환경 친화적 태도에 긍정적인 효과를 준다는 사실을 발견할 수 있었고, 이는 그림책을 활용한 환경교육을초등학교 저학년 학생들을 대상으로 교육현장에 적극 활용해 볼 필요가 있음을 시사한다 In this study, we tried to find out the impact of environmental education using picture books on environmental conservation knowledge and environmental-friendly attitudes of lower-grade elementary school students. For this study, 23 people in one first-year class of G Elementary School located in C City were selected as an experimental group, 23 people in the other class were selected as a comparative group, and environmental education using picture books was conducted for students in the experimental group, and general environmental classes were conducted in the comparison group. In order to conduct this study, preliminary and follow-up tests on environmental conservation knowledge and environmentally friendly attitudes were conducted and the results were analyzed. The conclusions of this study are as follows. First, environmental education using picture books was effective in improving the environmental preservation knowledge of lower-grade elementary school students. For lower-grade elementary school students with weak literacy, picture books improved their understanding of water conservation, air conservation, soil conservation, and garbage separation, which showed statistically significant differences. Second, environmental education using picture books improved the environmentally friendly attitude of lower-grade elementary school students. As a result of analyzing environmentally friendly attitudes by dividing them into cognitive, affective, and behavioral areas, the experimental group's environmentally friendly attitudes improved by area compared to before conducting environmental education using picture books. Third, 87% of the students in the experimental group said they were satisfied with the class using picture books, and 87% said the class was interesting. And 96 percent of the students said they participated in the class hard. Students' satisfaction, interest, and participation in class are believed to be high because they can naturally think about the environment using picture books and connect environmental education by discovering interest and interest in picture books. Through this study, it was found that environmental education using picture books has a positive effect on environmental preservation knowledge and environmental-friendly attitudes of lower elementary school students, suggesting that it is necessary to actively utilize environmental education using picture books in the educational field.

        신입사원의 주도적 성격이 정보추구행동을 통해 조직사회화에 미치는 영향: 팀개방성과 리더행동의 조절효과

        The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among newcomers’ proactive personality, information seeking behavior and organizational socialization. Specifically, This study investigated not only the main effect of newcomers’ proactive personality on information seeking behaviors which related to job and relationship building, and organizational socialization but also the moderating roles of team climate and leader behaviors on the relationships between proactive personality and information seeking behaviors, and between information seeking behaviors and organizational socialization. Online survey was conducted to 151 korean employees working for at least 3 months to 6 months and 151data were obtained for statistical analysis. Three steps of analysis procedures were carried out. First, correlation analysis was conducted and the results showed that there were positive relationship among main variables such as proactive personality, information seeking behavior, organizational socialization and etc. Second, the results of structural equitation model analyses showed that newcomers’ information seeking behaviors fully mediate proactive personality and organizational socialization. Third the results of hierarchial regression analyses showed that while leader behaviors which were specified to feedback behavior and consideration behavior moderated the relationship between information seeking behaviors and organizational socialization, Team openness did not moderate the relationship between proactive personality and information seeking behaviors. The implications and limitations of this study and the directions for future research were discussed on the basis of the results.

        <서평>Translating Scripture for Sound and Performance: New Directions in Biblical Studies (James A. Maxey and Ernst R. Wendland, eds., Biblical Performance Criticism 6, Eugene: Cascade Books, 2012)

        This collection of essays is edited by James A. Maxey and Ernst R. Wendland, both of whom are translation specialists with a particular experience of African oral performance culture. This book is also one of the Biblical Performance Criticism series, edited by David M. Rhoads, emeritus professor of the New Testament at Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. In this book, Vol. 6 of the series, co-editors provide their own articles alongside the other six contributors, many of whom have had a life experience of oral (performance) culture. First two articles written by Maxey and Rhoads play an important role in expanding the readers’ understanding of “biblical performance criticism” in relation to “Bible translation.” The other six essays seem to function as case-studies that apply biblical performance criticism to a specific Bible text or emphasize a fresh aspect of “Bible translation” based on biblical performance criticism. This book review mainly points out fresh insights of “Bible translation” that this collection of essays provide. First, “Bible translation” does not seek only one “right” and “objective” meaning. Rather it seeks multivalent and legitimate meanings, considering various “responses” from the audience, not just so-called “the intended meaning” by the author. Second, this book intensifies our understanding that translation itself is an interpretation. “Bible translation” does not mean mechanical transliteration from one language to another language. The article contributors in this book recognize that the oral performances of the Bible as “Bible translation” can have artistic value. Third, there are two types of “Bible translation” as oral performance. One is a translation of the ancient performances of the Bible and the other is a translation for the contemporary oral performances of the Bible. Although both translations are important as they are, it seems more significant how they can be related to each other and how the contemporary performances can make rhetorical impact effectively on the audience. Fourth, the notion that oral performance of the Bible can be called a “Bible translation” belongs to Rhoads’ “engagement model” of Bible translation. Although almost all existing “translations” tend to center on a written translation document whatever the versions are, Rhoads’ “engagement model” of Bible translation regards oral performances as central, not a written document. Fifth, oral performances as “Bible translation” contribute to forming a particular identity of the hearing community. In this way, a fresh goal of Bible translation, i. e. “Christian identity formation” can be established.

        ‘요한복음의 하나님’에 대한 퍼포머티브-내러티브 비평적 분석

        본 연구는 ‘요한복음의 하나님’이 갖는 함의를 요한이 유독 많이 사용하고 있는 ‘아버지’(πατήρ) 용어를 중심으로 탐색한다. 접근 방법론에 있어서 ‘성서 퍼포먼스 비평’이라는 최근 새로이 일어나고 있는 방법론을 ‘제한적으로’ 적용한다. 요한 내러티브 자체를 1세기 후반에 구연되었거나 구연을 위해 작성된 ‘퍼포머티브 내러티브’로 인식하면서 주로 내러티브 비평적 분석을 다룬다. ‘요한복음의 하나님’에 대한 선도적 내러티브 비평가들(컬페퍼, 톰슨, 톨미, 스티비 등)의 연구들을 비교, 종합, 평가하면서 ‘요한복음의 하나님’이 갖는 함의에 대한 분석을 시도한다. 이들의 연구들에서 미흡하게 다루었던 부분이 요한 내러티브가 갖는 ‘대립과 갈등’이라는 ‘플롯’ 이해였음을 지적하고, 아울러서 요한 내러티브가 갖는 ‘우주적 차원’에 대한 이해를 상기시킨다. 요한복음을 ‘퍼포머티브 내러티브’로 인식하면서 분석한 결과는 ‘요한복음의 하나님’은 모든 사람을 ‘하나님(아버지)의 자녀들’이라는 친밀한 사랑의 관계성에로 부르는 분이시며, 동시에 1세기 후반 당시 로마황제를 포함한 다양한 종류의 ‘거짓 하나님들’에 대하여 그들과 같은 수준이 아니라 차원이 다르게 높은 수준에서 그들을 향해 ‘아니오’를 선언하시는 분으로 정리된다. 본론 마지막 부분에서는 퍼포먼스 비평적 한 관점에서 ‘아버지’ 용어의 내러티브 전반에 걸친 반복적 사용이 가져다 줄 수 있는 수사적 효과를 간략히 정리한다. 결론에서는 요한 내러티브에 대하여 가장 보편적으로 받아들일 수 있다고 여겨지는 하나의 ‘퍼포먼스 시나리오’를 제시해 보면서, ‘요한복음의 하나님’에 대한 위의 퍼포머티브-내러티브 분석의 결과가 어떻게 요한공동체로 불리는 ‘집합적 청중’에게 구체적으로 경험되었을 것인지에 대해 다양하면서도 적법한 여러 가지 해석의 가능성들을 시사한다. This study explores how the Fourth Evangelist portrays God particularly in his use of the term “father” (πατήρ) from a performative-narrative critical perspective. An emerging method in the NT studies, performance criticism takes seriously the oral and aural contexts in the 1st century. This study is an attempt to combine narrative reading with performance critical study of the NT. From a performative-narrative critical perspective, God in the Fourth Gospel appears the One who wants to have intimate relationship with all human beings as “Father.” At the same time the Johannine God is the One who says “No” to all the “false gods” including the Roman emperor(s). For John, God says “No” to the “false fathers” by disputing with them not at the same, earthly level but in a much higher, cosmic dimension. Illustrating the rhetorical effects of John’s term “Father” from a performance critical viewpoint I argue that a performance critical perspective can make a narrative understanding more lively. From the performance scenario of the Gospel of John proposed in this study, I conclude that the rhetorical impacts of John’s term ‘Father’ may vary according to the social locations of individual community members and/or the ideal “collective audience.”

        야고보서 5:7-20에 대한 ‘담화 분석’

        The Letter of James needs to be understood as a whole instead of being read in a fragmentary way. For a long time, James has been treated as an anthology that retains little literary coherence or integrity in itself. Recently, however, New Testament scholars not only have pointed out problems on this matter but also effectively argued that James has literary integrity. By exploring rhetorical devices such as chiasmus, parallelism, and sound effects prevalent throughout the letter, the author demonstrates that James retains a clearly purposed but not deductively unfolded argumentation. In a macro approach to the Letter of James, it is argued that James moves the argument from the theme of endurance (introduction) where he emphasizes receiving the implanted word with meekness to be “perfect” to those of speaking and doing (2:1-3:12). Then he moves to a transitional and core section (3:13-4:10), focusing on wisdom from above and friendship with God. James implies that one can speak and act in a righteous way through receiving wisdom from above and having friendship with God. This transitional and core section becomes a solid foundation alongside another important inclusio (4:6-5:6) to advance the argument toward the end of the letter. Particularly, James 4:6 plays a significant role in foreshadowing the following themes: excoriating the rich (4:13-5:6) and exhorting the audience (5:7-20). In an extension of this interwoven but purposefully advanced discourse, James 5:7-20 appears as the concluding section of the letter. Employing a discourse analysis of the Letter of James, the author demonstrates that James 5:7-20 shows a clear purpose of the letter, which is of integrity as a discourse in itself and of considerable coherence with the preceding discourses. The author argues that in this concluding part of the letter, James exhorts the audience oppressed by “the rich” to be patient while keeping divine relationship with God and peaceful relationship with community members.
