Warts are benign proliferations caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) that commonly involve the skin and other epithelial tissues. Many therapeutic modalities are available for the treatment of warts. We report 2 cases of doughnut-shaped warts following cryosurgery with liquid nitrogen. Our cases demonstrate that, after removal, relapse of warts within a few weeks is frequent and probably due to sub-clinical or latent HPV infections surrounding the warts. Our cases suggest that we should be aware of possible recurrence and that adjuvant therapy, such as immune response modifiers with potent antiviral activities, should be used to reduce the incidence of wart recurrence after cryosurgery. Background: It is well known that patients with atopic dermatitis are prone to cutaneous infections, and especially superficial fungal infection. However, a study on the relationship of superficial fungal infection in atopic dermatitis patients has not yet been performed in Korea. Objective: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the relationship of atopic dermatitis to superficial fungal infection in Koreans. Methods: We examined for evidence of superficial fungal disease in 2,153 atopic dermatitis patients and we compared the findings to those of 126,777 non-atopic dermatitis patients who visited the Department of Dermatology of Chung-Ang University from January 2003 to December 2007. Results: Superficial fungal infections were more common in the atopic dermatitis patients (6%) than in the controls (2.5%) (p<0.05) and especially in the age group of the 1st and 2nd decades (p<0.05). The seasonal prevalence of superficial fungal infection was high during summer for both groups (38% vs 44%, respectively). The most common site of fungal distribution was feet (Tinea pedis) for both groups (42.5% vs 28.1%, respectively). The prevalence of coexisting superficial fungal infection was not significantly different in both groups (38.3% vs 39.9%, respectively). The most common isolated organism was Trichophyton rubrum in both groups (52.7% vs 38%, respectively). Conclusion: The study shows that the prevalence of superficial fungal infection in atopic dermatitis patients is higher than that in controls. Therefore, we should consider the presence of combined superficial fungal infection in recalcitrant atopic dermatitis patients and use antifungal agents for treatment. 고등학교의 71.46%가 일반계 고등학교이다. 그러나 일반계에서는 6차 교육과정에 있던 프로그래밍 내용이 7차 교육과정의 ‘정보사회와 컴퓨터’에는 제외되어 프로그래밍에 대한 접근이 전혀 이루지지 못하고 있다. 그러므로 본 연구에서 멀티미디어 기능에 쉽게 접근 할 수 있고 애니메이션 기능이 있는 액션스크립트로서 학습자에게 흥미를 가지도록 하면서 프로그래밍에 자연스럽게 접하고 원리를 이해 할 수 있는 WBI에 근거한 프로그래밍 내용을 포함하는 웹 코스웨어를 제시하고자 한다.

Early stage mycosis fungoides (MF) is known to be responsive to various topical and systemic therapies such as corticosteroids and ultraviolet light radiation, photochemotherapy with psoralens and whole-body electron beam irradiation. However, these treatments have all revealed a high relapse rate. Thus, we suggest that more invasive therapy, including PUVA combined with interferon-γ, is one of the possible treatments for early MF because this treatment displays a reduced relapse rate. We report here on a case of early stage MF (Stage Ib) that was successfully treated with PUVA (total dose: 105.7 J/㎠) and intravenous administration of recombinant human interferon-γ (total 5.4×10(6) IU), and the patient has been without relapse 1 year after treatment. 감전사고 이후 발생하는 심방세동의 빈도는 매우 드문 것으로 알려져 있다. 이전에 보고된 감전 후 심방세동은 1000볼트 이상의 고전압에 의한 것이 대부분이었고, 본 증례의 경우는 약한 볼트의 가정용 전압에서 발생된 것으로 국내에서는 그 예가 보고된 바가 없다. 부정맥이 감전에 의해 유발되는 정확한 기전은 아직까지 명확하지 않다. 다만, 체내로 들어온 전류는 전기적 저항의 차이에 의해 주로 혈관과 신경을 타고 주행하게 되며 이로 인해 심장이 취약한 것으로 알려져 있다. 본 환자의 경우 약한 전압임에도 입을 통해 심장을 관통하여 왼손으로 주행하였기 때문에 일시적인 부정맥을 일으켰을 것으로 생각된다. 심방세동의 치료는 베타차단제, 칼슘차단제, 디곡신 등으로 심박동수를 조절하거나, 필요하다면 class I, III와 같은 심부정맥약물로 정상동율동을 회복하여야 하고, 혈역학적으로 불안정한 경우 DC cardioversion 등을 고려해야 한다. Electrical injuries can cause cardiac abnormalities, ranging from dysrhythmias to myocardial infarction. Atrial fibrillation after electrical injury is extremely rare. The mechanisms underlying electrical current-induced arrhythmias are unclear. However, due to differences in electrical resistance, current travels preferentially along blood vessels and nerves, making the heart the most susceptible organ to electrical injury. Cardiac arrhythmias may occur at the time of electrical injury or later, but most occur within the first day of injury. Almost all patients described in previous reports with atrial fibrillation developed the condition after high voltage injuries (> 1,000 V). In our case, however, atrial fibrillation developed after a low voltage injury (220 V). Atrial fibrillation was detected and the rate was controlled with intravenous digoxin infusion. A normal sinus rhythm was restored 21 h after the electrical injury. (Korean J Med 2011;80:S142-S145)

Background: The imaging system that`s currently being used in the field of dermatology is based on such instruments as the dermoscope, phototrichograph and camera. In recent years, the use of an image magnification system based on polarization has become popular. Objective: In this study, optical quantification was performed based on the multiwavelength imaging analysis of the structures that form dermatologic diseases, and an attempt was made to enhance the image quality by using polarization technology. Methods: The lesions of three patients who were clinically diagnosed with cherry angioma, melanocytic nevus and inflammatory lesions in acne and freckles were measured at the outpatient clinic of the Department of Dermatology of the authors` hospital. All the patients were female, and their mean age was 29.3 years. Results: The optical characteristics of the patients` various skin lesions, including cherry angioma, melanocytic nevus and inflammatory lesions in acne and freckles, were distinguishable by their wavelength. Conclusion: The use of different kinds of information may be helpful for measuring and diagnosing various skin lesions that have not been differentiated with using the previous modalities. Further, if the various environmental factors that may be generated during the measurement process can be controlled, then these study results can be applied to a standard diagnostic modality in the field of dermatology.
