        무선발표지 형질전환 식물체 제조기술

        Selectable marker gene systems are vital for the development of transgenic plants, but the presence of selectable marker genes encoding antibiotic or herbicide resistance in genetically modified plants poses a number of problems. A lot of research results and various techniques have been developed to produce marker-free GM plants. The aim of this review is to describe the principal methods used for eliminating selectable marker genes to generate marker-free GM plants, concentrating on the three significant methods(co-transformation, site-specific recombinase-mediated excision, non-selected transformation) in several marker-free techniques.

        생명 조작에 대한 연기적 관점

          Modern science is based on the analytical reductionism resulted with a fragmented view on our world, compared to that of Buddha who showed us the mutually dependent holistic nature. As the advance of life science and biomedical areas in these days presents social and ethical questions in public, a more realistic understanding of the basic and clinical application that are likely to arise by scientific discoveries in our society is very necessary. In this paper the major three subjects, stem cell research, xenotransplatation, and genetically modified organism (GMO), in recent development of biotechnology are described in detail in context of biohazard and bioethics. Though those three specified areas are well-funded for research with good rationale by government and private sectors, some fatal problems are emerging from the view of Buddha"s teaching, especially holistic mutual dependency. Furthermore, the scientific terrorism that is done by pre-evaluated scientific discoveries is discussed with a misguided perception that science is value free.

        생명과 삶을 위한 깨어있음 -과학을 넘어서-

        한국불교에 있어서 절대적 이데올로기화되어 있는 깨달음에 대한 해체를 통해 일상의 삶으로 나타나는 깨어있음에 대한 재조명이 필요하며, 이러한 근거에는 깨달음의 주체로서의 생명체에 대한 철저한 생태적 관계성과 더불어 이들 생명체의 삶의 문제에 천착하지 않으면 안 될 것이다. 이러한 흐름에서 일상의 삶 속의 깨어있는 삶을 위해서는 불교에서 아상이라고 표현되는 생명체의 개체고유성에 대한 재인식과 더불어 깨어 있음에는 그러한 아상이 고통의 원인이라기보다는 오히려 다양한 존재가 서로의 차이를 보면서도 차별 없이 상즉하는 화엄적 근거가 된다는 점에서 아상에대한 적극적 해석이 필요하다. 복잡계적 관점에서의 생명체의 특성이 개체 고유성과 개방성이라고 지적한 것처럼 자신을 이루고 있는 아상을 아상 아닌 것으로 만들 수 있다. 아상에 대한 적극적 입장이 반영될 때 다양한 모든 생명체의 존재 근거로서의 욕망은 머무르거나 집착하지 않는 한 참으로 소중한 것이 된다. 사람 몸을 받기 어렵다는 불교적 표현을 보면 동물의 삶 자체를 고통 속의 삶으로 파악한 듯하며 라캉식의 관점을 취하고 있다. 그래서 일반적으로 욕망은 무명이며, 무명은 곧 무지이니 욕망은 보리심의 반대가 된다. 욕망은 집착을 낳고 고를 낳기 때문이다. 그러나 무풍기랑 이라는 입장에서 동물의 욕망, 더 나아가 인간의 욕망은 본디 자기 중앙적이라는 것이며, 이는 삼독심이라는 욕망 그대로가 보리심이라는 선가의 관점이 보다 현대 진화생물학적 관점에 가까운 것으로 보인다. In spite of the religion`s teaching is the radical one in which we can rediscover of our everyday`s piety of life from the complete transition of recognition on ecological relationship, we have been distanced from the role of awakening for living and life because of the old metaphoric language and abstract description. But the perspective of complex system, which can supplement on the limits of western modern science, can be tried to describe on many aspects of the wakening for living and life in which ordinary people can`t be understood on the uneasy and conceptual terms. We have to look at again the awakening living and life by the deconstruction of the ideological value of awakening in Korean Buddhism. And we have to continuously study and practice on the ecological living problems with the radical living relational complexities in the awakening subject. In this stream, we need to actively translate the self-image(我相) of Buddhism into the cause of Hwa-um in which the varieties of beings are getting along together not differentiating from each other but looking at differences in each other. The characteristics of ecological things has the individual eccentricities and openness to others in the perspective of complex system. And The self-image can become to be the other things according to whether it is opened or closed. When we can actively translate the self-image into the becoming something, we can appreciate on the desire as the living base of the various things not as the western modern understanding of the lingering and adhering one. In the last, we can easily accept the simple and short wisdoms of the old Buddhist monks in our everyday lives by the problem of awakening in the approach of complex system. And more and more important thing is the continuous going forward of awakening. It means that the creative image-transition of awakening is the situation of limits which is making of ourselves. But as of the important teachings in Buddha and old Buddhist teachers, the continuous going forward of awakening leaves on the only roles of ourselves in the individual living historicity which can`t be done by some others. But the individual eccentric experiences of our usual lives, which based on the only individual eccentricities, can make of our only images, become to be the base of awakening something, and be a pleasure of practitioners in the situation of limits.

        무선발 형질전환 Bt 벼 현미의 주요 영양성분 분석

        The selectable marker-free rice plants containing mcry1Ac insecticidal gene isolated from Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) were generated using a non-selection approach by Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation. The nutritional composition of two lines of transgenic rice plants (RTB5 and RTB11) was compared with that of its non-transgenic counterpart. The results showed that, except for small differences in dietary fiber and some minerals, there was no significant difference between transgenic rice and conventional counterpart variety with respect to their nutrient composition. Most of measured levels of nutrients were within the range of values reported for other commercial cultivars, showing substantial equivalency. Therefore, the insertion of transgenes did not affect the nutritional composition of transgenic RTB5 and RTB11 rice grains.

        모든 종교에서는 모두가 추구하여야 하는 바람직한 가치로서 깨달음을 제시하고 있으며, 이러한 종교적 깨달음을 통해 불가의 선사들은 대자유와 평화를 얻고 기독교의 사도 바울은 절대 진리로서의 신의 품속에서 살아가게 되며, 일반인들도 충실한 개인적 삶을 살아가게 되는 전환점이 되기도 한다. 그러나 이렇듯 깨달음이 강조되는 시대에 있어서 일반인에게는 깨달음처럼 추상적이고 현실과 먼 이야기도 없을 것이다. 본 원고에서는 추상적인 깨달음을 보다 구체적이고 현실에 적용하기 위하여 복잡계 이론에 근거하여 임계성, 자기반복성, 및 창발현상의 관점에서 깨달음의 문제를 검토하였다. Enlightened experience (i.e., awakened to the truth) is the most valuable one in most religions including Christianity and Buddhism. As well-known cases are Apocalypse St, Paul and many grand Zen masters in Zen Buddhism, it is natural for us to believe that such experiences are for very talented or specially trained ones. Applying the complexity theory on the structure of enlightenment, based on power law function, self-organized criticality, phase transition, and emergence, it is clear that the full awakening can be experienced by everyone in daily life. Furthermore, it is not necessary to be limited in religious experience. My presentation includes the definition of life as the autonomous being for the Enlightenment.

        진화론적 시각과 불교의 연기적 관점의 만남

        The evolutionary theory as a science is different from a religious doctrine both in its theoretical thrust and in actual practice. Considering the evolutionary phenomena and the Buddhist doctrine of interdependent origination, however, many examples of homology and analogy can be found in terms of the mutual relationship and inter-dependency that occur among living beings in biosphere. The current major theory of evolution belongs to the field of sociobiology, which is based on molecular biology that made significant progress in the 1970s and 1980s. The advance in molecular genetics including epigenetics, systems biology and the science of complexity has offered new insights on biological evolution. The 21st century view on evolution takes into account holistic and synthetic interactions in biological systems, contrasting it with reductional approach of sociobiological study based on genetic determinism. The Buddhist view on life and biological evolution includes a process without reality. All living beings are in the sea of karma that appears as intentional acts and the law of moral causation. Their actions are conducted as their own, their inheritance, their congenital cause, their kinsman, their refuge, thus all beings belong to the chain of a mutually interdependent web of cause and effect. According to Buddhist doctrine, there is only “dependent arising” in the world similar to the web of life in ecological system and a living being is no more than an interdependent being. In this context, Buddhist doctrine of interdependent origination is quite compatible with the 21st century scientific view of evolution.

        풍요로운 삶을 위한 과학의 탈신화화와 종교의 탈과학화

        One of the essential phenomena of the modern age is its science. Religion has been losing its power by making a humiliating concession to science. Making surplus value and productivity, science is more valuable than others in the neoliberal age. Nevertheless, science as culture is not a fresh view even now; we still think that science with reason represents the rationality but religion does not. Creation science, the intelligent design movement, and neo-creationism have gone with that current. Though the rationality of reason lies in science, however, science does not mean every rational way of thinking in human being. As appropriate emotion and spirituality are required for our integrated life, I suggest expanding rationality to emotion and to spirituality. Furthermore, each of rationalities in reason, emotion, and spirituality, can be classified as objective or subjective. The former can be shared in public, and the latter is personal and close to the bounded rationality. Clarifying the rationality of individual are necessary for the demythologization of science and the descientification of religion to retrieve our life of totality and soundness in this chaotic and materialistic postindustrial world.
