The purpose of this study is to provide basic data necessary for development of a variety of unicycle exercise programs, during physical activities at school by identifying the effects of 12 weeks unicycle exercise on health - related fitness and physical self-efficacy of male students in middle school. To achieve the purpose of this study, health related fitness and physical self-efficacy were measured among 12 male students in the second grade of H Middle School in C, South Chungcheong Province, by separating them into an exercise group and a control group. The data obtained in this study were analyzed using the SPSS 21.0 statistical program and Two-way repeated ANOVA was used to examine the interaction effect in each variable. The conclusions obtained from this study are as follows. First, there were significant differences for muscular endurance and cardiovascular endurance in interaction effect, muscular strength during the period of time, and cardiovascular endurance for the group as a result of repeated measures of health related fitness factors. The results show that there was a significant difference in the confidence of physical self-expression in interaction effect, and difference in perceived physical ability and confidence of physical self-expression during the period.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the cardioprotective effect of the potent antioxidant properties of Scrophulariae Radix (SR) aqueous extracts by examining pressure overload (PO) heart failure (HF) induced by transverse aortic constriction (TAC) of C57BL/6 mice. Methods: SR (500, 250, 125 mg/kg) and resveratrol (10 mg/kg) were administered orally once a day for 14 days, after the TAC operation. Changes in mortality, the body and heart weights, histopathology of the heart, and antioxidant defense system of the heart were analyzed. Results: After the TAC operation, increases were observed in mortality, heart weights, left ventricular hypertrophy, and lytic and focal fibrotic histological change, and destruction of the heart antioxidant defense system. However, the HF signs showed dose-dependent inhibition following 14 days of continuous oral treatment with SR. A SR dose of 125 mg/kg gave a similar inhibition to that obtained with resveratrol at 10 mg/kg. Conclusions: Oral administration of SR beneficially improves PO-induced HF following TAC surgery by increasing the activity of the heart antioxidant defense system. The overall effect of SR at 125 mg/kg is similar to the effect of resveratrol at 10 mg/kg. However, more detailed mechanistic studies should be performed by screening of the biologically active compounds in SR.
시상, 중뇌, 소뇌경색으로 인한 안검하수, 안구운동장애를 호소하는 환자의 한방 치험 1례

Objectives: This is a case report about the effect of Korean medicine on blepharoptosis and ocular motility disorders that occur with thalamus, midbrain, and cerebellum infarctions. Methods: The patient was treated using Korean medicine such as acupuncture, moxibustion, and herbal medicine (Boyanghwano-tang-gamibang). The change of blepharoptosis was evaluated by measurement of palpebral fissure width (PFW), marginal reflex distance-1 (MRD1), and marginal reflex distance-2 (MRD2). The change inocular motility disorders was evaluated by comparison using photographs of the extraocular movements of the patient. We used the Numeric Rating Scale-11 (NRS-11) of diplopia and dizziness to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment. Results: After treatment, blepharoptosis and ocular motility disorders were improved. The NRS-11 score of dizziness decreased from 10 to 7, and diplopia disappeared after Korean medicine treatment. Conclusions: According to this study, Korean medicine can be effective for treating blepharoptosis and ocular motility disorders in thalamus, midbrain, and cerebellum infarctions.
보행장애를 주소로 하는 소뇌형 다계통 위축증 환자의 한방 치료 1례

Objective: To describe the effect of Korean medicine on gait disturbance in a patient with multiple system atrophy and cerebellar ataxia. Methods: We observed a 75-year-old female patient who had multiple system atrophy and cerebellar ataxia. The patient was treated with Korean medicine, including acupuncture, moxibustion, and herbal medicine (Yukmijihwang-tang-gamibang and Boyanghwano-tang-gamibang) for 38 days. We evaluated the patient with the Korean version of the Berg Balance Scale (K-BBS), the Unified Multiple System Atrophy Rating Scale (UMSARS), and the Numeric Rating Scale-11 (NRS-11). Results: After treatment, the patient’s symptoms were improved. The K-BBS score increased from 9 to 19, while the UMSARS score decreased from 16 to 12 in Part I, from 15 to 7 in part Ⅱ, and from 4 to 3 in part Ⅳ. The NRS-11 score of gait disturbance decreased from 10 to 5. Conclusions: Korean medicine may be an effective treatment for gait disturbance in multiple system atrophy with cerebellar ataxia.
